Your First 4 Performance Mods on your Audi 3.0T

- A question I see asked very often is people on the forums trying to figure out what performance mods they should purchase/install first for their 3.0T supercharged Engine. After personally giving my opinion on this matter to quite a few people via DM's on Facebook & Instagram, I decided to make this video.
This is just my Opinion of course, and you are free to modify your car as you see fit. But hopefully this lays out clearly why I think these should be your first 4 mods done to your car.

Update to this video: If you are looking for suggestions on tuning companies I would steer you to Jackal Motorsports. They have absolutely taken over and dominated the 3.0t community and their customer service is incredible. You can use discount code "Audic7owners" to save 50$ on your purchase with them as well 🤘🏼
You can also use discount code "audic7owners" to save money with MercRacing orders as well 🤘🏼
Literally just answer every question I’ve had since owning my a7. The jerk, the low power from the heat, etc. right on
Fantastic. Good luck with it all!
Had my c7 for a few years and now thinking of making it a fun car and this video is now my guide. Thanks Boss
Do it 💯💯
You are one of my favorite car youtubers and every one of your videos is helpful!
Much appreciated! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Also I think you answered my question already I gotta rewatch it. Great information, thank you I have a 2013 S8 trying to figure out what the best order to put it together. Kind of funny cuz it looks exactly like the one of the car and driver for that year but with black interior and floors with carbon fiber no wood
I'm glad you mentioned the notorious hard jerk from 1st to 2nd. Just recently bought a 14 S5 and have occasionally noticed it. Nothing alarming though. Good video. Thanks 👍
I thought it was just mine I’m glad it’s not
I’m soon to upgrade from c6 to c7 but I get what feels like last or hard shift from 2 to 3. Was this a common thing?
@@lemmyk4941 Did you have the 3.0t C6?
The C7 has the zf8 which has a rough 1-2 shift which is normal
I have an S5 and have never once noticed a jerk.
Links to products mentioned in this video have now been added to the description of the video.
Also, It seems that APR is still offering their stage 2 & up tunes. I'd still recommend 034 or IE over them, though, because they continue to develop things for the 3.0t platform whereas APR is done with it. Just my .02$
Can you give us the 034 or IE links please. TX
@@Paisis1 second that ^^
You guys know how to work the Google machine?
I spoke with Matt at jackal by email and their tunes and all the services they offer sounds really really great. Opinion on on jackle tunes?
I'll be releasing a full review of their tune in the next week or so
Thank you man, subbed. I’ve just ordered my merc racing intercooler and JXB drive shaft carrier and Magnaflow 11836 will look into test pipes for my A7 2012
Im stage 1 - 034 Motorsports on 93 octane. I’ve got all the inserts, CTS intake, Coil packs etc. all new PCV, Thermostat and water pump. I’m now experiencing a smell of oil through my Air condition unit and in my engine bay and recently my coolant levels is slowly going down
Thanks again, best
The smell could be coming from leaking valve cover gaskets. Check our coolant loss video to help diagnose that issue
Actually good video and much appreciated. I'm leaning towards my first Audi, but not at all. My first performance vehicle by any means. but this is important. These little items like you mentioned are very again important and needed. Just like doing maintenance before you start adding power. So I just want to say thank you. And if there's anything else that you would recommend. With an S5 3.0 t six speed manual it's greatly appreciated
I just sent this to a friend of mine, great job.
Thank you!
Even though I've got a B8.5 S4 instead of a C7, your videos are still a gold mine!
I'm currently with an upgraded heat exchanger, stage 3 unitronic (dual pulley), CTS Turbo intake, and am looking at changing my cat setup.
If I understand correctly I need to :
- replace OEM cat pipes with test pipes,
- get high flow cats (I've had GESi suggested but idk if you'd recommend others) in downpipes further back from the engine
- later on get a catback exhaust
All of it sounds quite expensive but I don't want my engine to blow up so it'll be worth it hopefully
Yes, at minimum you need to replace your oem cats with test pipes. If you want other catalytic converters to reduce the smell, install them down your exhaust somewhere else.
Thanks for the suuport man!
Amazing content, love the knowledge you share with this community. Even though you own a 3.0t, would you be able to maybe include content for 2.0t mods as well.
I don't have access to a 2.0t anymore & there for isn't much to do with them other than upgrading turbos & intercoolers.
Not even gonna lie when I first was modding my car. I remember searching on yt which ones that is the best way to go. Read between intake or heat exchanger. I'm glad this video was putout there for the world because wow do I need to get to it. I have stage 2 with sc pulley, merc Hx, ecs lift intake and a IE tCu tune. Will def add the rest. I probably won't go Dual Pulley until the others are added on. Again thank u for this!!!!
For sure!
@@AudiC7Owners my only question would sway bars been in this top 4?
Not in the top 4, but Def in the top 10
Great video I’m Looking forward to the video on removing firewall for test pipes. I wonder if it’s possible to do upper tensioner that way too.
It should be. It opens a lot of room.
Honestly I just wanted a daily with good power that handles nice. Was thinking of buying a supercharged Audi with a stage 1 tune but your making it sound like these things just love to have money thrown at them
Not really. But you shouldn't expect to modify a car that easily gets into 400hp without needing some supporting mods.
Great vid as always! You're actually the first person I've heard talk about the driveshaft carrier upgrade, and it does look quite intriguing for somebody who is on a student budget. I did get the 034 mounts and drivetrain inserts, and thought those made the car feel MUCH nicer.
Do you run high flow cats further back or just test pipes?
Have you ever considered changing out the shocks to something like Bilstein's?
I have gutted cats & haven't installed any other cats.
Eventually I'll get some better shocks but I'm good with my current ride.
Does anyone make high flow cats? At least 200cell, can't stand the smell of test pipes .
@Sergey Z jhm sells a kit that can goes in the "downpipe" section
Love your content. Thanks man
Thanks dude!
removing cats will separate the men from the boys lol especially if you have to do it on your back in the driveway
how would someone learn how do to this lol
I did it on my back, on my stomach, sideways and cursed a whole lot! But, last time I checked, I am still a lady!
What a freaking nightmare!
@@Spee-DLKT now that I have done one of the hardest things to do on the car I feel like I can do anything
@@boogeymana6 now, I am looking at the pcv reroute, heat exchanger, intake and then I am upgrading my pullies and Tuning it. I have a 130mph limiter that HAS TO BE REMOVED! That is absolutely the WORST thing to find out when you're blasting by someone and they end up smoking you because you can't go over 130! HOGWASH, I SAY!
Bought my 2014 Audi A7 3.0T in April of this year. Had stage 2 apr tune as well as a few engine upgrades done to it recently. Totaled it 2 weeks ago on the highway when I hit a deer 😭

👌🏻👌🏻
Go ahead and upgrade your coolant pump while you're doing the heat exchanger, it's right beside it!
It's definitely a great upgrade, but not necessary compared to these. But I do recommend it
Great info. What kind of coolant pump upgrade would you suggest? Thank you super nice content!
Most go with the CWA-100, but I'm about to install the Cwa-150 to see how it compares
@@AudiC7Owners good luck, looking forward for the next vid!
I second Heat Exchanger for sure.
Great vids bro. Can you do one with a remote start installation ?
You buy it for me & I'll install it! 😉
Yea boutta grab heat exchanger for mine right now I’m in AZ I dread everyday I have to take my car out good looking bro hope this calms my nerves
Any idea when the group buy is planned? Looking to do the test pipes on my C7 once I get my lift installed.
This is spot on 100 percent.
fire wall vid!!!!
@AudiC7Owners, I am looking at purchasing a C7/C7.5 3.0T in the future and will end up going down this route from your video. My question that I haven't been able to find an answer to, for adding the down pipes, does it give your car a check engine light? Then at that point, if I went to Jackal and got a Stage 1 tune, would it "hide" the CEL? I am not worried about emissions because I am exempt where I live, I just don't want the annoyance of seeing the light on as all. Thanks for the content! Subscribed.
Driveshaft carrier is a must Awesome video. I removed my silencers (all 3) to install cutouts now sounds horrible what exhaust do you recommend?
Awe touring is the go to. Canadian Auto Performance is working on a cat-back system for our cars as well & I'm fitting to see what it sounds like.
Hey, Joe here. I'm a Audi tech here in Florida and we are a APR dealer and install and tune aftermarket parts. My car is stage 1 on a IE tcu tune. Car does damn well. But i also am planning on putting test pipes and exhaust all the way back and APR actually has a stage 2 catless file to do as well. With the employee discount all I have to pay is 360$ for the stage 1 and another 60$ for upgraded tune to any file stage 2 and everyone is pushing me to go IE. What would you recommend? Also, I've watched tons of your videos and I really enjoy what you do for the Audi community. Keep up the great work!
You should do "before" and "after" video ;)
If APR is doing stage 2 still then that is a good deal on the software. I just remember them making an announcement they were going to stop doing tunes past stage 1 for certain cars.
Having said that, you can go on the forums & read people taking about their switch from apr to IE & 034. Apr was the first to have a good tune for his engine, but then they moved on to other projects. IE & 034 and continued to support this platform.
So... Save money or have a better tune with continued support for improving it 🤷🏻♂️
Which shop you work at
Which shop you work at
Hey what location are you at?
Awesome as always 😉 you deserve much more subs. BTW would you consider A6 C8 as your next car or possibly Q7?
Honestly I hope my next car is a C7 s7
@@AudiC7Owners what are your concerns with the 4.0 with those? I hear the turbo oil screen is an issue, how would you get around that or like upgrade it?
The biggest concern are definitely the oil screens. I'd just remove them & call it a day.
After that would be the need to replace injectors as you have to remove the engine to do that. But that isn't a common occurrence.
@@AudiC7Owners I appreciate your response. I'm going on my second totaled S4 (flood and rear end). A 2017 S6 caught my eye, 58k miles on the clock, but I am fearful of the turbo oil screen issue and basically engine maintenance. Probably too much car for me at this point in my life.
Freakin California. I’m running an APR Stage 2, ecu and tcu tune with 93octane mapped. I bought the car used that way at 83k and took care of all the servicing and whatnot. I like the fact of long term care starting with the IAT situation and may stick with this mod list.
Keep up the great work Cameron!
What year is your car I called apr for my 14 a6 and there telling me they don’t do tcu tune no more
Just go with IE or 034
Awesome content.... subscribed... I gave my 17 year old my 2014 audi a6 v6 prestige plus Quatro. Loved it. No issues when I handed it over at 58k miles.
I upgradee to a 2018 a6 cuatro prestige ... looking forward to adding some mods.
Very nice!
what year is your A6 man? recently (literally 2 days ago) started having a love for a6’s and there’s really affordable where im from, but I know about the issues these vehicles have. ik you most likely have some videos on these issues which I will watch but I just watched your 10 C7 tips vid and loved the features it had, would love to know the year! appreciate the content fammo
Thanks man! Mine is a 2013
Thank you for this video. I need to do Hx and test pipes asap because I'm already stage 1. Did you make that test pipe false firewall video?
Nope not yet
@@AudiC7Owners I subbed so I'll be watching out
Wow! Got thing they didn’t hit that nice rear diffuser.
Is there anyway you could make a Video like this for the D4 S8 platform. Right now I’m trying to figure out the best alternative to strengthening my Catalytic Converters, whether getting new ones hear wrapped since they are so close to the engine and do hear e changers work on turbo charged engine.
Great vid and reccomendations. I did all of these mods except the test pipes because I don't plan to go past Stage 1, nor do i want any exhaust noise, prefer to be inconspicuous. I would like to make note that I experienced lots of new cabin vibration and a low frequency hum at 70-85 mph with the driveshaft carrier with street bushings. If I could easily go back to stock I would because the noise and vibration is very noticeable. While searching I came across a few other people that experienced the same with the carrier. If anyone has a similar experience and found a remedy, please post.
Can you pass nj inspection with the test pipes?
Woah I literally didn't hear about EPL until you mentioned it. They ran a deal back in May that I went for, DP Stage 2 tune, ZF8 trans tune and data cable for like $1400 or something. Absolute monster of a car now that I've been really happy with, should I be concerned going forward or should I try to swap it to IE or something asap? Haven't had any issues so far
Unfortunately it may be hard for you to get support with your current tune. I know that 034 Motorsports was offering EPL customers a discount if they switched to their tuning. Honestly, if you think the car is a monster now, you will be floored if you switched to an integrated engineering or 034 Motorsports tune
@@AudiC7Owners yeah I figured, they told me I should be at about 415AWHP (probably tad less cause I'm still on stock pipes) but I did not know about the cats being a ticking timebomb, so looks like that's next on my list. Guess I'll sit on the tune for now until I install the test pipes then I'll see about the tune from there
Is the track or street drive shaft carrier better? What’s the difference?
thank you
Jack Jones says “never never never” LOL 😂 iykyk
😂😂😂😂
Stouts only........but love your vids.... lol
I'm completely stock except for a stage 2 dual pulley APR on a 2016 A6 3.0 Prestige. I rarely full throttle, but I love being able to drive aggressively when needed. Post tune, what mods would you recommend? I'm not doing exhaust, may do an intake, but what would you recommend? Also, what is your thought on fuel additives?
If you are dual pulley you need a mercracing heat exchanger ASAP.
And you need to save for test pipes
Fuel additives don't do anything
What do you mean by heat exchanger please?
For which system? Air , coolant, oil or something else?
Are these tips applicable for second gen 2016+ Q7 having the 3.0T?
And where can I get a upgraded heat exchanger in south africa?
I really want to get in on the group buy this month. Will you post about it on fb groups?
I will. I'll also update on our Instagram
Are the ECS tuning driveshaft carrier any good? Great channel by the way, keep up the good work.
Do not waste your money on their cheap copied products. Buy the real thing from JXB
Ok thanks 👍
Read some reviews about that ECS tuning carrier and apparently it's garbage FYI for anyone considering it
You read my mind 🙃
My friend, is there any way I can contact you to ask you a question about my Audi, the problem is that the oil goes down very quickly but my car does not have any problem with burning the oil, the dipstick says it has the correct level but the system electronic always goes down too fast and doesn't leak at all
There are questions in relation to the catalytic. Is your exhaust line only catalyst removed? Other than that, are you using genuine exhaust? I am currently 207mm crank using a pulley and the S6 original exhaust (60 pipes mm). Looking at the forum, I saw many users increasing the secondary catalyst line by 63mm pipes. I'm worried about the opinion that this has a bad effect on the output of Stage 2 vehicles. I wonder what you think.
You don't need to increase the diameter of the pipe with an aftermarket exhaust. It doesn't benefit the car at all.
Hey I purchased a heat exchanger but it was a jhmotorsports one, for the 2011 c6 3.0t, do you know if that’s a good product to buy, I wasn’t sure if the merc racing one fit the c6 so I got that one, it’s half the size so it’s making me worry it won’t be as good as the merc one
Where did you that rear diffuser? Looks cool..
It's from Canadian Auto Performance 🤘🏻
Can you please tell me where you got the rear diffuser from? I really need that specific model for mine (I'd love to have a plain black one instead of carbon but I can't even find this carbon one for some reason)
If you could please leave a link below it'll be great. Nice car man, I really do love it! I've been following you for such a long time and I'm about to start modding mine. Much love from Romania!

@@AudiC7Owners o
Bro I just got my first 20089 Audi a5 3.2 , and I’m not sure if the oil still in good condition, because I notice that my car It throws gray smoke and I'm a little worried. Help please
I just found a C6 with the same engine (but only 290hp) and dsg trans,,,,
It's like a unicorn 🦄 i never heard of one like that before,,,
Interesting, the C6 never came with a DSG. Are you sure it's not just the zf6 auto? It must've been a custom swap if it is in fact a DSG
Looking at a 2010 A6 with 3.0t.
Are there many differences from the C6 to the C7 as far as suspension an c tuning modifications?
Would I be further ahead to find a C7?
Input appreciated.
Thanks.
You would be lightyears ahead getting a C7. Better revisions on all 3.0t parts, & the dry advantage would be getting the ZF-8 trans. There are a lot more aftermarket options for the C7 as well.
Its a little more money upfront, but you will be far happier
Does someone know where do get good perfomance parts on Audi A6 C6 3.0tfsi?
How long did it take you to install the driveshaft carrier? Just curious as to how many hours a shop would charge
A shop should charge no more than 2 hours to do it.
Hey, bro! How u doin'? What's the model and dimension of your rims/wheels? They're wonderful!
These are oem 20x8.5, et43 I believe. 20mm spacers in the rear, 17mm spacers in the front
Do you have a video of how the 3.0 sounds with the test pipes
There are a ton on RUclips. I don't have any uploaded though.
hey question, I have a C6 3.0T quattro , since there's not a lot of mods for this car would i be able to use any of these parts like the 3.0T intercooler? also is the driveshaft carrier only for rear wheel drive?
The heat exchanger should work just fine. Check the jxb website for compatible options for your car.
Hey, new c7 owner, here. where do you guys get car battery from? Is programming required on vcds?
I got mine from advanced auto. And yes it does. You can use vcds or obd11. We have a tutorial video on using obd11 to do it.
Is it working this recommendation for Audi q7 2015 3.0?
Hi thanks for good info. Can i use the same 4 mods for c6 platform or has it its own stuff for tuning?
It should be about the same
I've been working on my A6 3.0T in my mechanical garage for who knows how many days now because of coolant leaking. Such a damn headache.
I got a question.
So if I get test pipes is it ok if I get a muffler delete?
OR
And if I get a cat back exhaust system should I get test pipes as well??
Thanks
Would these apply to 3.0 TDI ? 2014
I have a 13 S5 B8.5
I saw your other video about the Cats. Hopefully you read my comment.
When I spoke to people online regarding the B8.5 motor. No one mention about the cats. To replace it w test pipe n just move the cat down th exhaust.
So for the transmission carry that you mention. Do I need to replace that for my B8.5 vehicle 🚗
Replace what? Your cats? Yes. Same engine, just different transmissions.
Rear sway bar deserves honorable mention
What does that do?
Tightens up connection between left and right wheels. It limits the difference in tire contact between left and right wheels when turning. More/only noticeable the higher the g-force.
@@nikcamaj6740 that would improve the driving on curvy canyon roads right?
Whether it’s an improvement or not depends on many things, especially/including driver mod, but it changes the characteristics under lateral weight transfer for sure. How much it comes into play depends on how sharp the curves are. 99% of drivers will never put it into effect but man the 034 Motorsport rear sway bar on my c7 gives me the confidence and control in corners you would only get from way more uprated sports cars.
@@nikcamaj6740 thanks for your comment that’s good to know I enjoy going thru hills like that, I always thought you would need to jus upgrade your suspension in order to improve that. How much did it cost you?
what if i don’t want to mod heavy and just want to do a tune and an air intake, also maybe an exhaust. would i still need all these precautionary upgrades?
Hx & test pipes are a must to protect the engine
Hey for the drive shaft carrier would you recommend street over track, I enjoy driving on canyons but I know they have potholes etc would street be best?
I have track and don't mind it, but street is probably a great option for 99% of people
What do you think about Redstar test pipes with spacers? I've done alot of research on test pipes and found only a few companies that actually make quality parts and landed with Redstar for the look and price as well as reviews nobody I've seen had any issues. But I'd love to know your opinion on them before they come in.
You are overspending if you buy redstar. I'd u up with Can Auto Performance all day over red star. Cheaper, lifetime warranty but has an amazing reputation for high quality on their test pipes.
No reason not to go with them.
Can't pull the cats where I live. What do you suggest as an alternative?
Save some money to replace them
I have a question I’d like to ask please, I have an Audi A8 D4 3ltr, will the modifications you have talked about in this video be worth doing to the A8?
All of them.
What about emissions when cats are deleted? I’m from Europe it’s hard to go past control after you delete them 😢
Most people run 02 spacers
Can a take some of your advices and apply it to my c7 3.0 tdi 272ps avant- facelift, is it worth alsou
With the tdi I don't think you need to worry about test pipes as much. The rest are applicable in sure, but I'd check with a reputable tdi tuner like Malone Tuning
I’ve got a c7 3.0tdi do all these apply for me as well.
No.
Is there a channel like you that does 2.0T engines ?
Not specific to the C7 as it just isn't in high demand. But if you have questions I suggest you send a message to @fatboyquin on Instagram. He had the fastest C7 2.0t before getting his S6.
Which JXB Performance Driveshaft Carrier should i get? 3.0T
I have the track bushing on my car but most people go with street
where could i purchese spare tire mine popped it was so hot in the truck
I'd assume your local tire shop
I live in Upstate NY with strict emission laws, how can I get the Test Pipes and still pass a NYS inspection, I got a 18 Audi A6 Prestige w/ 48k miles
Most people that have to deal with this install 02 spacers
i got a 16’ 3.0t prestige & when i would like my car off a dig it would kick each gear giving a better advantage and i put an intake on and it still did it which i liked and now it doesn’t wanna launch as good or doesn’t kick each shift off a dig
You likely had AMAX engaged. That gives torque through each great change & as like you are being pulled through each of them.
@@AudiC7Owners yes, it would make my launch 10x better, do you know what can be the problem to why it’s not doing that, since i’m just intake right now ?
You have to purposely enable Amax each time you use it. There is a certain process to get the car to use it
@@AudiC7Owners do you happen to know how to enable it ? been having this problem for about 1 month, thought it was the spark plugs so i ended up changing them but that wasn’t the problem
Im going to make a video showing how to do it in the near future
Sadly found out Can auto doesnt ship to Hawaii, got any other suggestions for test pipes?
Ouch... Have any family on the mainland?
Does the average Americaner generally tune or modify any car they get? Even if its straight off the dealership floor?
I wouldn't say the average driver does.
Does the catalytic converter problem happen with a 2011 C6 A6? Can Auto Performance says that the test pipes you use won't fit a C6 model. I'm also noticing how hard it is to find parts for a C6, everything seems to be for a C7.
Yes, the same issues apply to the C6 3.0t cats unfortunately
@@AudiC7Owners that's a shame, I'm thinking of gutting my cats but I would prefer replacing them with test pipes.

So we have a 2013 Audi Q7 V6 3.0 Supercharge. Will these mods apply to the SUV as well?
Yes, if you can find them. I'm not sure if anyone makes test pipes for the Q7
So I’m buying an Audi A7 2016 and these are the first things I’m doing to my car once I buy it! Only question is do you think it’s too early to do any of these mods at 45k miles?
Not at all
Just one more question as I’m im not mechanically inclined as most yet but when it comes to removing the CAT Converter and resonator and adding test pipes should I add the down pipes? Still confused on what to add after test pipes…seems it’s more by preference but still indecisive
It depends on what you are trying to achieve. You only need to replace test pipes to avoid potential damage to your engine from catalytic failure.
Mid pipes (commonly referred to as downpipes) aren't a necessity
Sooooo if I install test pipes on my A7 is there a way to bypass that check engine light I really don’t want one and also wanna pass smog lmao
Where there is a will, there is a way! Search on the forums or Facebook groups
what about a 3.0 tdi a6
How do you get around Motor Vehicle inspections with no cats?
Nice try, epa
Can you do a heat exchanger on a Q5 ?
Maybe one day I will.
Would long tube headers work too? I just bought them :/
Absolutely. The main issue with headers is that you have to remove the engine to install them
Voodoo ranger 🤙🏼
So my A6 is at 140k miles. I am completely stock. With the test pipes in after the CATs are removed will it still pass inspection?
Test pipes replace the cats. It will cause you to fail inspection unless you install 02 spacers.
@@AudiC7Owners hm that’s what I thought. So with spacers I should be good then
Yes, but you have to find the right spacers. Start with the 180 spacers from Can Auto Performance
