I think that last line from Trump, "Ah to hell with it, I just have to suffer through it the way I have all my life" really reveals something about how he views the world and current events. I think he honestly believes, in his heart of hearts, that all this stuff will just blow over, that he's not gonna suffer any consequences for his behavior, just like he always hasn't. He thinks he just has to wait it out, to "suffer through it", and then everything will be fine.
There won't be any consequences and it will just blow over...

My NY friends said that he was not really popular pre 9/11. Everything is a façade. He was just as racist as Trump. The thing is Yorkers survives in BS. Got a friend that worked in car rental company in LV, said that the worst customers are from NYC.
