    I used to use a 3/4" drill mandrel with a sueded leather pad and ultra fine lapping compound. On aluminum, it would give you a good swirl pattern, but on stainless, it would give you a strong prismatic effect.

      I think using the ultra fine lapping compound is the secret for steel. Ive found that using normal metal polish that you might use for a set of alluminum wheels or exhaust tips works wonders. I used a wooden dowel as my tool and had really good results. Ive heard using oil and a fine carbide abrasive gives a great less shiny finish on steel.

    Great video crafty B! I've used cratex before, but never had a fixture. Super simple down and dirty fixture works great! Thanks for passing that along.

    So I can make swirls with out a drill? I have a 3" long plate by 1". I want to give it texture.

    What grit level do you recommend for aluminium ?? I want to get into engine turning

      Cratex stick will would great on stainless. I use medium grit brown and they sell it in different diameters. eBay or Amazon sells it
