Thats how my grandfather done it..he taught me many years ago...all my bits stay sharp...i just picked up a 5 gal bucket with every size bit a petson would want..its nice to be good friends with a scrapper
You probably should use a drill point gage to make sure your tip is centered. And as he said, get the angles right. Should be 118° tip, but doesn't matter so much depending on what you are drilling through. The relief angles is very important. If too shallow you won't be cutting much. If too much angle, too steep, it will dig in fast and break. Should be about 12° angled down.
Drill bit angle is 118⁰, your setup is 120⁰, should be close enough. I bought a drill bit sharpener. Any thing larger than 1/4" i like to use a grinder. Much easier to do than using a special made grinder. An added plus to grinding your own. You can drill a slightly oversized hole by offsetting the center of the drill point.

What were you using on that angle grinder, one of those thin cutting discs or a thicker grinding disc?

Great tips. Can you tell us what nuts sizes you used?
1/2” works real good but bigger will work also
Good one
Super helpful, thank you! What grit sandpaper ,bench grinder wheel, and hand grinder do you recommend?
Hello 60 grit on the belt sander, med grit bench wheel and I use a 4 1/2” dia grinding wheel on the delwalt
What kind of disk did you use with the grinder?
What kind of blade are you using on the multi tool ?
Hey Courtney not sure what tool you are referring to?
They're probably referring to the angle grinder. The safety police are worried about the zip disc failing.
