The Death of Multiversus

To Whom it may concern,
My name is Trollisms. You may remember me from that time that I made a really harsh review about Multiversus very shortly after it had launched. Or that time that a few weeks ago that I ranked your game third from the bottom in my best to worst games of the year video where I awarded Multiversus "The biggest waste of potential" award. I still standby everything I have said about your game. The reason I mention these things is because I want you to believe me when I say that you are making a mistake in the way that you are choosing to kill your game.
I think Multiversus deserves more than to be delisted from stores in a way that no new player is ever able to discover or play this game. This isn't a call to keep the game alive, nor is it a call to continue to host matchmaking servers or continue to update the game. It is a call to leave the game in a better state than you are planning to do. I have listed three things late in the video that I believe that you should do before you end the service and cease development on Multiversus.
While these things may cost development time and money to do, I believe that your game deserves better, and the players who supported this game over the year this game was alive for. (and for the ones who supported the game during the extended beta period) I believe that you have a duty as not only game developers but gamers, to leave this game in the best possible state you can. Multiversus didn't meet expectations during its life, so give it a chance to be remembered fondly in its death.
I really do hope you take my feedback onboard, I understand that it is unrealistic but I want to say that I tried.
Yours truly:
-Trollisms (One of Multiversus' Biggest Haters)

Hello. The algorithm brought me here.

@2:33 jokes on you! They never gave me my cosmetics from the FUCKING BETA ANYWAYS YAAAAAYY
My biggest hope is that the modders take this game and absolutely run with it
That's a good point
tough sell since mods were dmca'd way back when the game was still in beta
@@RollyPollyPal I mean it was still sold product at that point. Now it's so dead they don't even want to keep servers up.
STOPKILLINGGAMES
Shout out to Ross Scott and the stop killing games initiative. He eats beans from cans and stopped making content to spearhead a consumers rights movement for gamers
If mulitversus was just a normal , self contained game with good single player content, good online play and reasonably priced, optional DLC , it would have been a HUGE hit and would have sold millions, easily .Its misguided attempt at being a live service game is what killed it. Not everything can be or should be a live service game, but greedy, short-sighted publishers don't want to hear that .
What most sad of all is when this game dies, it will not go out with a bang, or even a splash, but a whimper. A sad pitiful whimper as it lies coughing its death bed, wondering where it all went wrong. Before passing on to the live service games graveyard. Where Macro will dust it off in a year to make a ‘Dead Games’ video on it (again).
Who's Macro?
@@gligarguy4010 he’s a gaming RUclipsr who often makes tutorials on multiplayer games, streams on Twitch, and has the occasional variety video like his “Dead Games” series.
I personally found him through Apex Legends, and he’s pretty funny while also being informative. I highly recommend watching a couple of his vids. He just released a ‘For Noobs’ tutorial video on Venom in Marvel Rivals.
The simple reason they won't keep the game live is because they won't be able to milk any more money out of it.

I swear people who say this have never owned a company in their life. Yes let's keep a game alive that's has already put us 100 million dollars in the hole and ain't making us no more money. Let's continue to fund a project, that was given multiple years to get better and was even allowed a second chance. If this game did good, everybody would be praising WB and PFG, but somehow the game does bad, now it's all WBs fault. No, stop coddling these damn devs, you don't owe them shit. And if they failed to produce a game that they had a dynamite IP for and had the Money and support from WB, they deserve their failure and in order for them to learn, we as consumers need to hold both WB AND PFG BOTH ACCOUNTABLE EQUALLY.
I don't doubt that PFG has some level of fault in Multiversus' failure, but WB is known for just doing this. Overflowing and killing a game with microtransactions, how aggressive and heavy they are, trying to utilize fomo, the usage of premium currencies. Even though they may have IPs from WB, WB still has to obtain permissions from certain people to allow it, and only then can PFG do anything. Like was shown in the leaked characters, they had so much planned, but because of WB or those other holders, they just couldn't do much and had make do with what they were allowed, while also following WB's rules and all that. If I had to ratio the blame, I'd put it at 70/30 with WB holding most blame just because of their level of infamy and their history of practices with this.
@@OriginalCrazyJay24 I can get behind this reasonably thought out response. I would say a 60/40 split, however I can agree that WB would hold most the blame.
This game fails where marvel rivals thrives.
Tbh i stopped playing in the beta. Initially, it was fun. But then they made me do menial daily tasks and the game increasingly started feeling like a 2nd job and I stopped caring.
It had 3 premium currencies and you had to buy characters out of rotation. I don't like Smash ultimate too much, but for like 100$ you can get like a hundred maps to play on and 80+ characters to play as. You don't even need an Internet connection to launch the game. I never saw anybody get excited about the battle pass in the game either. It felt like they only cared about slapping on as many ways to monetize the game as they could rather than trying to make a reasonable offer to the players.
By comparison, the gold super man skin was f****** 25$. Don't even get me started on the team system they were trying to set up and the mess of an upgrade system they tried to give every character.
I knew this game was gonna die after they shut down the beta and told everyone they couldn't get refunds for buying anything in their store. What a way to build up consumer confidence.
i dont get why a fighting game doesnt have all the characters unlocked
Anything to do with these greedy companies being transparent in the chance their game fails has me thinking about their precious investors losing confidence in them, which (to them) is less of an issue than us losing confidence in them sadly.. :/
They let me download the game on Steam but won't let me play it because the game is apparently not available in my country. Glad I dodged that nuke.
Rest in piece…. I never got to see Scorpion doing a fatality on Steven universe…. Killmasel
I bet the odd details surrounding the delisting are because WBD wants to write this game off like they did with Batgirl and their animated movies, but is also wary of the litigation that would come from pulling the game out from under existing players.
By delisting the game in the way they're doing, they avoid whales suing over their microtransaction purchases going away because they can still play the game, while also having the game disappear from storefronts in order to perform accounting magic.
Did anyone else find the menu screen to be awful? It felt basic asf and the music made me sleepy
It's been fortiteafide.
Well at least "They Did it!" 🚓
Will live on forever.
The Best of Beakman's World.
The thing about Multiversus is that the game is good, but having to grind just to get a new character is just stupid and also the gameplay just sucks, many fighting games are fast phase such as brawlhalla, MK, Ultimate Smash Bros.
What makes this game good is the movement, in Multiversus YOU BARELY MOVE! Like doing a dash is so dumb you just move like what? 0.5 cm?
I went back to play this game in December and OMG it's almost death that it barely would look for a match. The matchmaking system for 2v2 is buged having to restart the game and all that BS.
Multiversus can only be save if every new character comes out free to play and they make the gameplay more faster like brawl or smash.
Im tired of games becoming lost media because the devs can’t be bothered to make something functional offline.
Delisting it is probably due to licensing fees for the non Warner characters.
They should have made it into a single player game with a story mode instead of making it an online only game which ruins such a cool idea...
Got recommended this. Good video
The outlines make the graphics look so bad! The slow, jerky, floaty animation is also a big issue.
Those animations were not like that on beta but they fed it up on launch which makes no sense literally a downgrade which the game died soo fast due to that
agree on the "Don't Delist", make an extra option in the game that if you download after may 30th, it makes a local profile instead of downloading it.. it's a few extra lines of code. -can i connect to server, if no, then check if local profile excists, if no, then make new local profile... Can connect to server! is there a profile on server? if yes, download and make local... if not, make a new local.
The "unlock all stuff" idea, thought about that yesterday, and that feels unfair to those that did spend (lots of) money on the game... but then again, they can only show that off now via a youtube video or twitch stream?.... And "p2p / personal server" idea is something that could be done, but doubt WB games will give us that option. But yes, there are those that still keep extreme old online games alive with their own servers... it would be nice, but guessing the fan base ain't really there for it...
It lasted the same as SS KTJL.
Predecessor is active.
Hello and goodbye multiversus 😊
ok if the servers are going down just. just unlock everything for free.
if you can't buy anything anymore make it free
no "boot the game between these dates" bs just make it free after the update.
change the game's name to "Multiversus (LTS)", update the description to say smth like "The servers are no longer up, only local play works, but hey at least you can still play it" and drop the sticker price to like $4
make all the DLC free and unlocked by default.
if people wanna play multiplayer over server they do an interactive screenshare like Steam Link of Parsec or smth idfc
THAT'S HOW YOU DO THIS
The game wasn't on mobile. That's the main issue. For some reason they didn't make a mobile version, which strictly limited its player base and opportunity to make money.
Think of all the free-to-play games that have mobile versions: Fortnite, Fall Guys, Rocket League, Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Warframe. Now look at this list of failed free-to-play games that don't or didn't have a mobile version: Rumbleverse, Deathverse, Foamstars, Roller Champions, Radical Heights. If you're making a free-to-play game, it needs to be on as many platforms as possible. No excuses.
There will be a way to play it, but... why?
FOR THE ALGORITHM!
8:50 I wish Microsoft and PlayStation would do the same with Burnout Crash and Nintendo would do the same with Rhythm Heaven Megamix on the DS.
Who need 500 match made party trophy. Let me know we can boost together.
I missed out on Daytona USA for the Xbox 360 so that's gone but I still have the Simpsons arcade game and MvC2 for 360
We don't need more live services for nite and cod is all I need
Very surprising indeed
Good. Trash game belongs in the trash🗑️🗑️🗑️
Now to get people to move over to Nicks fighter game!
Ain’t nobody playing that crap😂
Brawlhalla will scoop them up
@hands-ongaming7180 Multiversus ain't bringing any new fans in. I'm sure damn near 95% of people who played and loked multiversus also played brawlhalla
I just redownloaded that last night...
And then after one round I deleted it again.😂
💀
The beta is good the release feels terrible and clunky they fix it on the last season and shutting down which makes no sense
Good, F this game.
this game has such an ugly art style why has nobody mentioned that? it looks like an actual flash game
#savemultiversus Warner bros!! If the game made changes that benefit the game, it would thrive! Pick popular characters, perfect the gameplay, unlock all characters, lower monetization prices, good marketing, and better battlepasses & the game would thrive!
