  • Today I discuss some helpful tips for before and after laser eye surgery. I had PRK (PRK = Photorefractive Keratectomy) laser eye surgery this month (February 2017) and wanted to share the things that really made a difference in the quality of my recovery.

    Ideally, you want to use a preservative-free drop. These come in small individual-use containers that have around 8 drops in each container. The drops in multi-use bottles generally contain a preservative. Systane, Refresh, and other respected makers use newer generation preservatives that are much more gentle than what was used a decade ago, but these still can sometimes cause irritation and dryness, and are not ideal for constant use compared to the preservative-free versions that both of these brands offer.

    Use preservative free drops. When you take the tops off, you can press them back on and get 3 to 4 uses from each one. Don't use the drops in a bottle.

    If anyone is considering getting laser eye surgery, please, please think very carefully. The fact is laser eye surgery is extremely dangerous. I've had it done myself and it has ruined my life. Years on, my vision is the worst it has ever been and I am still in pain. In fact, most people who have told me they have had it done, have also had some kinds of problems, many of them serious and life-changing. Research seems to bear this out, suggesting that the majority of patients have some kind of problems.
    Please take anything you are told by the companies with a pinch of salt. If you are still tempted, make sure you seek advice from an independent optometrist or ophthalmologist who has nothing to gain by you having surgery.

      I had it done in 2008. Worse decision i made in my life. I have extreme dry eyes, they hurt all the time and there's nothing that can fix it. It's not worth the chance to ditch the glasses. You only have two eyes that are irreplaceable.

      @@souleymeneabbadi3891 It's great :) My eyes ended up being worse then I thought before surgery. -9.75 in left eye, -9.50 in right with extreme astigmatism. I was worried at first post surgery since the first month both eyes were blurry and my left eye had ghosting and double vision. I wasn't able to safely drive for a full month. The dryness was bad as well. 6 weeks in post op I just woke up one day and double vision was gone. I'm amazed at the results. I still have some starbursts at night and end of day eye dryness but nothing terrible. It should go away soon. The surgery was a breeze but the pain afterwards was awful. I don't regret the surgery though. My eyes are still healing - may take 6-7 months for the full result - but as of right now, I'm at 20/20 :)

    • @ecaryn.
      @ecaryn. 2 года назад

      Actually, no.
      “The ‘no more tears’ means the product won't sting if gotten in a baby's eyes,” Trisha Bonner, Manager of Research & Development at Johnson & Johnson, tells us. “You’ll notice if you put your hand near a baby’s face, they won’t really blink - that’s because baby’s blink reflex is not fully developed. If a baby can’t blink, it can’t protect its eyes from falling shampoo suds during bathtime, so chemists adapted the products accordingly. Our formula uses large molecules," explains Bonner. "It is harder for large molecules to penetrate versus small ones, which makes those products mild to the eyes (and skin), preventing stingy and, thus, tears.”
