Great idea to do this video Jen. I'm sure a lot of people, myself included thought the recovery was pretty instantaneous. I never considered the driving licence suspension for instance. All in all a very thoughtful and informative video. Well done.
Thanks Eddie! My vision was so blurry the first week, I would have been a hazard on the road! I was nervous at the local Ministry of Transportation when I had to take the eye test to remove the glasses condition from my license. Thankfully I passed!
Such great news Jen. Really glad for you. It's awesome to have good vision. I had 20 20 vision up to about 3 years ago when it started to change. Have to wear glasses most of the time now. Greetings from Andreas on Off Grid Sweden
i had Lasik surgery done on both my eyes about 6 years ago..i had cataracts very bad,it was absolutely amazing the difference after surgery which was immediate, recovery time was only a few days...colour were one of the first things i noticed i was absolutely amazed it was like a miracle.........i now have 20 20 vision and no problems...i also had to go back every few months for checkups but everything was always fine.....best decision i ever made in my life,it changed my life.
Holy crap, better than perfect? Saweet! You are so right to compare what you see with others. I do all the time even though I have (or had) twenty twenty vision. Your eyesight can always change in the blink of an eye. 👁 : ) I am happy for you♥
Very Happy for You JEN i know it was pretty tough the first few weeks, and its good you can see so well with out glasses,.. you made a good decision, hope you have a great time camping out, have a great week,
Good news - we're glad to hear it worked for you - especially the 20:15 eyesight - awesome. Glenn and Maureen, from the offgrid cabin in the Canadian Wilderness.
i do the same thing when i think i got a bug. Slam back the tea and honey. Whether it's store bought green teas or wild edible tea, i drink a pot of it. My grandparents use to purchase a tea called "wonder tea". it was all natural and was really expensive. I loved the stuff but have yet been able to find it and both my grandparents have passed away years ago. Glad your eye balls are doing good!!
Thanks for blogging your recovery and mentioning the PRK procedure. I'm thinking of getting Lasik?/PRK? done. In my mid sixties and have mild cataract in one eye. (I came to TheWildYam via PineMartyn's channel, btw.)
I was thinking about getting it done and went to my doctor to ask a few questions . I was told I would be able to see far away with one eye and close up with the other eye. He used contact lenses to give me a sense of what it would be like and I discovered that it was just not for me. It was so strange although he said I would probably get used to it and my brain just needed adjustment time. But that was just not good enough for me. So I will stick with my glasses for now. I am glad you had great results and it worked out for you!
I know someone who had the exact procedure done to them. They are happy about it but had a lot of headaches in the beginning as their brain had to get used to that type of correction. The one you describe is for when people are both near and far sighted.
Marienkaefer4 Do a little research on IOL procedures. Intra Occular Lens replacement may be the way to go for you. It's pricey, but worth it. I have not had it done because of this, but when i find a way to pay it will be done.
I watched this video because I just had LASIK done 3 weeks ago. But now.. I'm mesmerized. ❤️ I see her other videos deal with the outdoors. I need someone like this for the end of the world! 🙂
My vision is 20/20. 👍 My eyes are dry but they were dry before the surgery (due to contact intolerance) and I was told that that wasn’t going to change. All in all I’m very happy with the results.
Hey it's great that your Lasik went well... It's been 4 weeks since I had my Lasik surgery.. And..I sometimes feel like rubbing my eyes like the way I could before the surgery... How many more days should I wait to do that or like sleep on my face (it's a weird question but it's something that always haunts me).. Please answer my question..
Don't rub your eyes, wait another 2 months to be safe. You may disturb the flap. I didn't have lasik, I had the prk, so no flap but I was.still told not to rub my eyes.
Yes. I never got dry eye thankfully. I mean, they were a bit dry in the first little while due to the expected nerve damage from the surgery but as the nerves regenerated, I'm good now.
I know this is an older video, but did the fuzziness when reading text ever get better/sharpen up(and when)? I got PRK surgery 2 weeks ago and coming from glasses for 20+ years its jarring how blurry/fuzzy everything is when reading text, even up close. I know I have to be patient, but its tough coming from crystal sharp vision close up and far with glasses to having blurriness close and far, especially when I'm in front of screens constantly for work
Jay Zee -5.25 with mild astigmatism. You have to wait until you have several years of your prescription being stable before surgery. If you don't, you'll need to have it corrected again in a shorter period of time.
There are lots of risks. From infection to rare cases of blindness (never happened with the company I went with). You have to research them all and talk to your eye care professional about them. They go over all the risks and probabilities of the complications happening to you at your first examination. The first exam was free.
@@TheWildYam Thank you for replying. Are your floaters something that will appear/disappear in your peripheral vision or just become stationary in your vision?
I had -5.25 in both eyes. I could only see clearly one foot in front of my face. I could barely see the large "E" at the top of the chart across the room!
It was the only one that they would do on my eyes. This is due to certain lifestyle and cornea issues that were identified during the first round of tests.
TheWildYam i had lasik about 15 years ago. My eyes were -9.5 so even worse than yours, and had to have a more expensive procedure so that if I had regression later, which was very possible, I would have enough cornea to re do. Luckily I have no issues and no regression. Need the readers occasionally now but only for that damn micro print they use on some things 😉
20/20 is what the biggest % average of people have. So by that it's the "standard" vision. Because 20/15 percent wise is quite rare, 20/10 is even rarer. It's like 1 in 1 million of people or so. That's like having +1 hyperopia without compromised close up. Hence, 20/20 is refered as to baseline normal vision. 20/40 is technically -1 diopter range.
Way to go Jen! Always look forward to your videos each week.
Appreciate the variation in subject matter.
I'm glad you enjoy it. I try to mix it up so that there is something for everyone. Have a great rest of the week.

Sorry to hear that Andreas! It is amazing that you had such great vision for a long time. I have been wearing glasses since I was 9 years old.

Thanks Shlisa! I feel less vulnerable in the wilderness now. Before if my glasses fell off, I was wolf bait. LOL.
Oh man! lol
Wonderful News, Jen; Keep on a Blinkin ATB Ter God Bless
Thank you Terry! Have a great rest of the week.

that gave a lot of assurance, thank you
Thanks for posting these videos. Helps a lot! Glad to hear it went well :)
Fortunately I haven't had a problem with eyes yet. I am in my 60's and at work I can read 3/8" codes on the computer 19" monitor from 24 feet away.
You're very lucky.
that's awesome glad it worked out for you.i am still thinking about getting it done.maybe someday
It is really life changing and I am so happy with how it turned out. If you are interested, take your time to research it and see if it is for you.
What a blessing!😇 Have a nice day😇
+Michele Rucker Thanks Michele!
Good for you ! Only you know what’s best for you .
So true Teresa. Thank you!
TheWildYam so ready for a cabin video. Lol
Awesome news having beyond perfect eye vision! I had lasik 2 weeks ago. My left eye is fine, but my right eye is dry, and kind of blurry.
I hope your recovery continues to progress. See your doctor if you are worried. Thanks for watching!

That's why you spotted those owls so easy lol 👍👍👍👁👀
;) Indeed! I wouldn't have been able to do that before without my glasses!
Thanks for the information. I had PRK 4 days ago. How long after your surgery did you start wearing makeup again?
A couple of months
How is your vision now please and are your eyes dry?
My vision is 20/20. 👍 My eyes are dry but they were dry before the surgery (due to contact intolerance) and I was told that that wasn’t going to change. All in all I’m very happy with the results.

@@TheWildYam oh.. Okay.. Thanks for the advice!
@@TheWildYam I still experience Starbursts at night.. Will it go away completely after it's fully healed??
Never rub your eyes. Flap made by lasik never heals. Google it.
Did they use Mitomycin-C in your procedure? I'm worried that it would cause me to have dry permanent eye.
Yes. I never got dry eye thankfully. I mean, they were a bit dry in the first little while due to the expected nerve damage from the surgery but as the nerves regenerated, I'm good now.

@lionheart1827 how are you how? What was your initial prescription before surgery?
Congrat’s!
Thanks !
Hey there! What was your prescription before the surgery, and how old were you? I'm considering it myself and I'm nervous, I'm only 20
Jay Zee -5.25 with mild astigmatism. You have to wait until you have several years of your prescription being stable before surgery. If you don't, you'll need to have it corrected again in a shorter period of time.
TheWildYam Yeah I've heard, my prescription has been -7.5 since I was 16. I might just check it out with my optometrist first
Jay Zee Great idea. A lot of the laser eye surgery facilities offer a free consultation too.
so happy for you , it would be a sin to have to cover those beautiful eyes with glasses
I'm getting used to life without glasses finally :)
I see blurry letters and ghosting when using computer and mobile phones. Its been 16 days since my PRK surgery. Pls reply when can it get better?
How is it now plz i have same problem today is my 6 days
Glad it worked out for you Jen. Now if we can just get Dave to stop thinking about food all the time 😂
LOL! At least I'll be able to see his fork coming over to my plate at the convention this year.
TheWildYam hahahaha 🤣
Jason Roberts 😂
right on
Thanks Bushrat!
Yeah, lights have some kind of halos! Just science!
Indeed :)
any halo effects?
About how often did you find yourself using lubricating drops while you recovered? I'm around day 12 out and am using them every 1-2 hours.
Sounds about right. Wishing you all the best in your recovery!
Great, thanks :)
What are the risks of this surgery and how much does it cost?
There are lots of risks. From infection to rare cases of blindness (never happened with the company I went with). You have to research them all and talk to your eye care professional about them. They go over all the risks and probabilities of the complications happening to you at your first examination. The first exam was free.

So what was your power before LASIK?
I had -5.25 in both eyes. I could only see clearly one foot in front of my face. I could barely see the large "E" at the top of the chart across the room!
TheWildYam so now it's back to 0?
I see better than perfect now. From across the room, I can read the line smaller than the 20/20 line!
Why did you take prk over lasik?
It was the only one that they would do on my eyes. This is due to certain lifestyle and cornea issues that were identified during the first round of tests.
TheWildYam i had lasik about 15 years ago. +heatherbegs Wow! So happy it worked out well for you.
20/20 is not perfect vision how can people still not know these things. If 20/15 and 20/10 is better then how can 20/20 be perfect smh
