Drag Race fans have been very obsessed with track records lately, so I thought we'd focus on a very specific placement in almost every episode of the series, the low placement. Not in the bottom 2 but still getting negative critiques on the main stage, the low placement can be used for a lot of reasons, some of them more rigged than others.
We're breaking down the most rigged low placements today, going all the way back to Season 5, All Stars seasons, Drag Race UK, and the American version. From chatting about the queen of low placements herself Miss Fame, to A'keria C. Davenport and Silky Nutmeg Ganache getting some strange low placements on All Stars 6.

@@DPedro3literally, it makes them look so bad that they dragged her all the way to the finale and ended up needing to do a top 3 after her disqualification. There were so many opportunities for her to just go home.
@@DPedro3and i LIVE, the allegations and disqualification of shitty pie made them have to remove a big storyline which gave the rest of the cast more time in the spotlight and made the story not feel overproduced because production couldn't pull an overproduced and forced story out of their ass.

The fact that Milk was safe for that unrecognizable Celine impersonation while they put Chi Chi in the bottom still makes me mad!
Yes! Milk was obviously one of the worst in that challenge… we won’t even mention Thorgy’s placement 😟

The way Akeria was treated on AS6 makes me mad to this day!!! Her being in the bottom for her Prince performance for the Super Bowl challenge was CRIMINAL. I don't blame her at all for refusing to participate in the rudemption battle.
And the fact that eureka is on top that episode... Girl Madonna where? That High Kick?
It proves that Akeria should never have been in Top 4 and gone home in the 6way lip sync.

Tamisha being bottom over gottmik was insane. I still think tamisha did safe at worst!
But look where Gottmik is now. Tamisha couldn’t achieve half of it. She’s insanely successful and it’s good press for the show and drag in general. It was a good decision to save her.

Oh yeah!! She was great in the challenge and the entire other team flopped.
Producers didn't expect Shuga to do so well that season that they just eliminated her because she's not supposed to last long in their story, she's robbed. that finale look of hers is one of my favorite

Most baffling low placement has gotta be chi chi in divas live. I’ve watched it so many times and chi chi does so well and it just makes no sense to me how they saw her performance as bottom worthy. Rest in power angel❤️

I wouldn’t say Milk ran, the judges were still a little iffy in Season 6 even if the reception was better though. The bearded runway in S7 and Kennedy winning snatch game was the end of the arc.

I will literally NEVER get over Robbie being safe over Laila... Laila's look was INCREDIBLE! Every time I rewatch that episode it drives me nuts.
right? that jacket is EVERYTHING. granted, the bottom was meh, but that jacket alone should've saved her. because robbie's look was so basic, had NO shape, it was just awful.
just for Leila. maybe i'm biased, but having seen her live, i know for a fact she had WAY more to give. she's a great performer, and it's a shame she got sent home so early. i'd love to see her come back if they do another early out type all stars

People seem to be forgetting Nina West in episode 1 (the design challenge). She flopped so hard but they were like “but you’re Nina west!”
WELL... Thats different. 😅 She IS THE NINA. I wouldve done the same thing and keep her til the end. We know now that producers can do that easily. Look at miss Colby. 😏 or Gottmik.
At least they acknowledged she did bad and didn’t give any false reasoning for why they saved her. Also the other girls did not have remotely good looks either so I don’t feel too bad.

for tina burner they literally spent the whole time talking about how when she had to fake her death, she didn't lip sync to the last part of her performance and she was punished for it... there were people that struggled more but whatever.
That season is one of the most rigged, inconsistent judging, saving Gottmik many times, Kandy brought back after being eliminated… Easily my least favorite season.

Hated season 13. Kandy’s negative energy and Gottmiks favoritism. Only saving grace is Symone, a stunning winner. And Utica. My secret winner.

Shuga Cain was done SO dirty, most people forget it even happened! When she was in the winning team, but still was put in bottom 2 when there were clearly worse people to choose from, but of course, those Queens were popular and brought in more drama.
The problem they have is the "mandatory 3 low queens/bottom 2". There have been episodes where only one person did poorly but they threw someone into the bottom just to satisfy the lipsync requirement.
i like how on as8 they've done a top 4, btm 2 instead of forcing a btm 3
i thought this about the season 6 rusical, nobody actually did that poorly apart from maybe april, though that was more the fault of the bad writing.
@@DragDetective That can be good in theory, but specifically on AS8 it's not making any sense.
In general, I wish they were more flexible about the placements to do better justice to the queens. If a bunch of people are bad, give them all lows or bottoms. If everyone's good, don't hand out a low or bottom placement that episode. It annoys me when so many placements make no sense that the queens then go by "track record" to decide who should go home. I think they should go by actual performance, as they honestly evaluate it. (Of course, they can lie, but it's better than pretending that official track record necessarily reflects actual performance.)
Though, honestly, I preferred the AS7 format where everyone is allowed to shine. I wish they had fewer queens, really focused on giving each queen real opportunities to show what they're great at, and waited until at least the 3rd episode to send anyone home -- and then only if they really deserve it, not just to send someone home. What I hate the most are these manufactured "bad track records" so they can justify getting rid of someone who deserves better.

The only placement I will ever argue over is that S***** Pie should have been in the bottom over Jaida in the stand up challenge - Jaida did not do well in the challenge sure but I think the pie one going over her time limit messed with Jaida (one of the reasons she flopped) and ultimately, Jaida had a waaaay better runway
HELL NO! I can agree Sherry should’ve been in the bottom or an instant BTTM2, but Sherrys runway was AMAZING. Her runways were the best I ever seen, it’s unfortunate the person wearing those looks is a Predator

@@JoseSena-gs4tz Those runways were designed by Florence D'Lee, an NYC-based artist who's also did outfits for Scarlet Envy, Loosey LaDuca, Alexis Michelle, ROSÉ, PLASMA, BRITA, and so on. They've done a lot of runways for DA's from NYC and adjacent. You're right about one thing: a lot of those runways were excellent. The person those outfits were on, though, not so much.
Aiden Zhane not lipsynching in the ball ball will always tickle me. Cuz she rlly was so nonchalant ab almost everything😭😭😭😭

Season 13 when Denali was placed low and eliminated. Just because this makeover challenge was in pairs, she was placed in the bottom with Olivia. But in the critiques, they said she did a great job with Olivia’s makeover and all the bad critique was for Olivia. Denali should not have been in the bottom because of her partner.
I'm a Denali fan, I really think she could've gone all the way, but girl, the blending wasn't there
The Sherry-favoritism screwed Heidi more than anyone. We all know Heidi should have won the World's Worst challenge and Heidi should have been safe in the monologues. She would have made the final 5 with 2 wins and at least one less bottom putting her in a good position to make the final 4.

@@Rocko8000 I thought the DA's came up with the scripts for the episode when it aired, but maybe I'm mis-remembering it. In any case, it felt like they were holding onto the commonly-held (at the time) stance that drag was just men dressing as women (the same point Gia Gunn kept hammering on about in Season 6). Now, as AFAB DA's, transgender DA's, and even kings are getting more exposure (plus the multiple people who've played male characters on Snatch Game over the last several years), the spectrum really seems to have broadened, and the whole "criticizing Alaska for doing boy-drag" really didn't age well.
Omg thank you for mentioning Darianne in the rap challenge. I still stand they wanted Milk gone but they didn’t think Darianne couldn’t beat Milk in the lip sync so they put TKB despite having a better verse and a way better runway

Which is funny because Darienne MURDERS lip syncs, to the point where they had to invent a new way to get rid of her before the finale

I think the ulterior logic of the low placement is clearest in that Vanity Milan placement you mentioned. They literally said smth like "you were fine, but is it too little too late?" Which literally isnt even about the challlenge, it's just the producers saying their storyboarding out loud lol
alaska had 3 lows in season 5 and i honestly think she could’ve had 0. like they put her as low for the kids show because of the boy drag but she was solidly safe in the actual challenge (and as group leader if the show wanted they probably could’ve even had her as high), she was low in the can i get an amen challenge for wearing sunglasses and “hiding” even though again she gave a solidly safe performance in the challenge. for the makeover i definitely think she deserved bottom 3 but honestly she could’ve been bottom 2

Potentially controversial but I think Scarlet Envy being in the bottom in the pink table talk could absolutely be on here, I thought her story about her mothers was endearing and she had some jokes in there that were really funny like saying she got her moms on a buy 1 get 1 sale. It was just clear the judges never saw her considering she could have won episodes 1 AND 2 and didn’t even put her in the top for them

Miz Cracker being low for the Cher challenge was an odd one for me… if you watch again, you’ll hear Ru cracking up during almost her entire performance. I thought it was a solid safe, but they threw her a low placement
Latrice Royale had literally the only memorable moment in the Political campaign challenge but was put in the bottom. I think it was so she could send Dida home
Just a decade ago, I looked over at the bottom two placement, and I saw that it was ugly, and I'm still not at peace with that.
I say Ahora’s snatch game low placement is about Ru not getting British cultural references. After seeing her character’s appearance on the Crystal Maze, I really appreciated it. Had Michelle been playing with the queens for snatch game, she probably would’ve done better.
Genuinely! Me and my mum loved her in snatch game, thought she did a really good job and did all the tricks that they like for snatch but yeah...
Personally, I think it was just safe. Not bottom 3 worthy, I think either Sister Sister or Ellie Diamond could’ve taken that spot bc while neither of them even did terribly bad themselves, they completely faded into the background and I think thats criticisable more than A’Whora’s performance.
THANK YOU for bringing up Orion Story in that ball challenge! I’ve always always felt like she could have been in the top or honestly maybe even could have won it, her black and white look in particular was stunning and I never understood why they put her low and I’ve never seen anyone else say anything about it
I've always found it weird how seriously fans take Low (and High) placements into account when discussing track records since they aren't really even explicitly stated by the show - and they just exist/don't exist depending on that specific episode's production.
There are a lot of episodes where "low" placements feel really arbitrary - like Daya Betty in the Dragcon panels. She didnt do badly at all, they just needed another person to critique. There are a lot of similar examples of episodes where the low placement barely exists/is chosen pretty arbitrarily (UK2 is full of these, as you said. Another one is Lawrence being "low" in the Lockdown Superhero challenge - a placement which makes zero sense from both a storyline and performance perspective).
Similarly, in AS8, they just pick 2-3 queens and critique them both positively and negatively - without really saying if they were high or low? All of those placements feel weird and arbitrary (which probably doesnt help with riggory complaints).
If you do a similar video about high placements - I'd love to hear you talk about AS7 - since the "high" placements in that feel very arbitrarily chosen for storyline (and they critique every queen as if they were high).
Ok but I will never understand how Robin was in the top and Jax was in the bottom for the sewing challenge. Robin is so talented and such a good queen, but who tf puts shiny black boots with a plaid look? The look was not even cohesive yet Jax had a full fantasy in her look. Full highway robbery.
I still can't believe people treat a fan-created point system with no bearing on the show whatsoever as gospel. High-low low-high--IT'S ALL MADE UP. Anyone who brings up track record in terms of this stupid point system just sounds like Loosey trying to count mini challenge wins. Delusion.
Honestly I feel for the Pie One’s comedy challenge they should have skipped the lip sync entirely and just sent her home because going over that much was not okay.

Olivia and Tina did the worst job but I guess they judge you on teams/individually if it saves/eliminates you to your journey to top4. So they could save their top4 without a problem. She was a big threat to the finale with those Britney lipsyncs. She would demolish all those who were in the finale
A group magic performance, but was suddenly an individual judging one, Shuga gets the chop even if your team did a great job

Or if it were called out as "this team is safe except you did so bad you're in the bottom" or the opposite "you all did very meh except you who wins" I wouldn't hate it nearly as much as this "well coincidentally we're doing this thing that just so happens to align with the narrative. on accident. oops"
In the DragCon Panel challenge on Season 14, Daya Betty said on the show that she knew she was thrown in the bottom because they needed a bottom 3, and there was no chance that the bottom two wouldn't be Jasmine and Jorgeous. I forget if this was in Untucked or the main episode, but it was made very clear that there were only two bottom-worthy performances in that challenge.
the fact that Jax was in the bottom for the ball challenge when the look she made was not only well constructed but it was also cute and unique SO RIGGED I really hate this show sometimes

Yeah I still do think that the one LOW placement that stands out to me for not being correct was Chi Chi for the Divas Live challenge in AS3. She did great as Patti Labelle.
Veronica Green’s low placement instead of the bottom 2 is the ever classic:
“The runway matters only when it’s a queen production doesn’t want to go yet.”
You could have the most fabulous runway but if they don’t want you going further then they don’t even consider it. And yeah, Ginny Lemon could see the riggory from miles away.

Asia O’Hara being low in the snatch game didn’t make a lot of sense since she and The Vixen we’re equally as bad and we’re playing off of each other. But they didn’t wanna risk losing Asia given that Vixen could outperform her in the lip sync so they just threw Mo Heart in the bottom instead so I’d say Asia got saved by the low for sure.
another interesting one is nina west from episode one of season 11, the design one 💀 the judges straight up said during deliberations that nina’s outfit was rlly poorly made but sending her home episode 1 would be (rupaul’s words) “unamerican” because she’s nina west 😭 just a rlly interesting moment i’m shocked they aired
For France I would say Big Bertha being saved from the btm during the ball and them throwing Soa in the btm just to see her lip sync to Aya Nakamura was quite obvious riggory, but we love to see Soa lip sync sooo what can I say 🧚♀️

I think a baffling low was Suga Cain’s low placement in the magic show challenge.
The reason I can’t fall in love with S12 is due to the obvious favoritism towards Gigi and Shitty, it makes it not enjoyable that they didn’t even deserve some of their higher placements. So happy Jaida got appreciated but truly the one who got their well-deserved praise, where everyone else had tp live in Gigi’s and Shitty’s shadow. Like what

hunty i was GAGGED when they placed Jax in the bottom that episode. like tf? u could place that look in any other season's design challenge and it'd still be safe at minimum, i was so mad
They wanted Jax out so they could feature Anetra. They both filled the same niche but I'm going to argue Jax is both a stronger dancer and stuntwoman than Anetra and producers could not have that when they wanted the latter in the Top 2. Even in the finale they kept praising Anetra's performance abilities while completely ignoring Jax who was SITTING RIGHT THERE.
I think even if Jax is a greater performer, she is not as versatile when it comes to acting as Anetra is
@@demeliou3844 Doesnt matter. They were pushing Anetra as the one to beat when it comes to lipsynching and dancing but she's not as good as Jax in that regard
@@myk-popper2960 I'd say I think Anetra is a better dancer, but when it comes to actual lip syncing, Jax is better. Like, yeah, both can do lots of tricks, but is that really the only thing that matters in a lipsync?
@@itsgabbybtch5587 How is Anetra a better dancer? She struggles with choreography. Jax's musicality during her talent show alone trumped anything Anetra did throughout the show. Even in the music video the only one who did the choreography justice was Sasha.
I would suggest you rewatch Jax's lipsynchs if you think all she does is stunts. She is a solid dancer and her facial expressions and stage presence are impressive. How much dancing does Anetra do in comparison? She pulls out her 'duckwalk' (more like duck hop) in every lipsynch. Even in the battle they had against each other Jax was way better but she knew it didnt matter what she did because production wanted her out that episode.

I am missing Miss Fame. I remember how excited I was when I knew Miss Fame was casted on that season. Also, after watching all the seasons again, season 7 became my top 3 seasons of regular drag race

Tbf there were 7 queens, and her runway was the weakest. This could've gone on the last video about runways. Willow wasn't a stand out in the rusical but her runway was better than Deja's if Im remembering Willow's runway correct. That rusical was overall pretty good, if they didn't have so many non elimination episodes I could've totally seen that challange being one where no one goes.
I don't know that it was necessarily "bottom" placements, but both Raja and Jinx lost those final lipsyncs in AS7 and you can't tell me otherwise. The riggory was super obvious.
I think they just wanted Raja to have something and for Jinkx the way she dominated there was no way she was losing that’s why they need to get rid of the lipsync for the crown format because of situations like this where the clear winner isn’t the best lipsyncer
I think Raja won that, Yvie lipsyncs like she's chewing on gum😂

A’whora - UK2 Snatch Game (she delivered the second best performance of the episode over Bimini, and she was bottom 3 over Sister and Ellie what the hell)
DeJa Skye - S14 Rusical
Sasha Colby - S15 Stand Up (Anetra vs Sasha should have lip synced, with it being a double shantay)
Elektra Shock - DRDU1 Makeover (Art should have been low instead of her)
Awhora would’ve been the best competitor since she proved versatility but Lawrence was the fav so it wouldn’t fit the narrative :( she wasn’t appreciated at all for being a ‘fashion’ queen like Aquaria and showed being able to do everything, and once she was FINALLY in the bottom they let her go which makes zero sense..

Jasmine Kennedie being low for the design challenge is fine to me, however her being bottom 2 doesn't make sense especially when compared to the winner, or Kerri
As someone who has endured a lot of meetings, I can say with certainty that the people who say up front that they won't use all their time (say, 2 minutes) can definitely go on for 15 minutes without seeming to realize that they went over. I think they just like the sound of their own voice.

Not putting Fame in the bottom for Snatch Game is the root for one of the saddest robberies in Drag Race history. If Max (who had two wins at that point) sends home Fame, she definitely survives the makeover, Pearl and Violet land in the bottom for the John Waters challenge (pearl goes home), and Max at least makes it to the top 6. Dancing with Kennedy, if it's judged in teams, she probably survives, individually, she and Trixie could be the bottom. If she's against Trixie, she probably moves forward to the ball where I think she was capable enough to be safe. Which means, Max very likely makes final 4 and it would be between her and Kennedy on who Ru chooses to send home. Personally, I think she'd get rid of Max in this scenario, but Max would have gotten so much bigger of a following in this alternate timeline and likely would have been back for AS3 or AS4.

TKB getting read for her verse in the rap music video challenge still annoys me. If anything, she had the best verse in both presentation and flow. It was clear it was a panel of judges that dont listen to rap being asked to critique rap.
the thing with sh*rry being saved from the bottom in the standup challenge despite going over the time limit still makes me mad bc that shit shouldn’t slide and the judges haven’t let it slide before or after that 😭 like for example, (kinda) recently miss jade so from philippines s2 was put in the btm3 for the commercial challenge despite doing the best in the challenge bc she went like a minute or two over the limit, so the fact that sh*rry was allowed to go THAT far off without a btm2 is insane to me

Widow von Du on the episode they eliminated her. She was far from the worst, her look was amazing and they just talked some bs about inner saboteur etc, just because she wasn't in drama and they wanted to keep others. She was definitely not in the bottom, I felt so offended on her behalf.
