Strategy has become a more and more important facet of Drag Race over the years, with the newer All Stars seasons especially. And while there have been some great strategic moves throughout the years, there have also been some BAD ones. So let's break down the 5 worst strategic moves in Drag Race herstory!
From eliminating the wrong queens, to casting some questionable votes, there are lots of ways to screw up your game, and these 5 (6) queens are perfect examples. We'll break down their reasons for the move, why it was so bad, and what could have changed if they had chose another route.

And I woud have eliminated her without any regrets. She bullied Dela into quitting. I just don't vibe with Morgan at all, since season 2 she's just arrogant and I have issues being in the same space with people like that.
@@damirdominkovic I think Dela was already feeling pretty bad about being in that kind of competition, so putting all the blame on Morgan is unfair. Dela was bullying herself mostly.
Morgan for sure had no reason to come for Dela as hard as she did. She dug her own grave, it made it her look like a child throwing a tantrum. As we say in PR “te pasa por pendeja”

it's so disingenuous to blame Morgan for Dela quitting. First off, Dela saw *_why_* the producers engineered that situation: they wanted to set her up as the villain who goes into the finale over-confident and hated by the rest of the cast (if she had stayed she would have ended up like Shangela). Second, as Thorgy pointed out, she self-eliminated specifically to have her moment, on her terms, and it worked, as we're still talking about it.
Tatianna and Alyssa not eliminating roxxxy was indeed a big mistake on their part, but we got rewarded with one of the most iconic verse in drag race herstory EVER
I think it doesn’t make sense for them to pick roxxxy over phiphi knowing that just one person would go home. Yes there’s the rolaskatox alliance but if roxxxy goes then that would leave phiphi, detox, katya, alaska in the game next to tati/Alyssa and I don’t the girls would save tati/Alyssa over phiphi/ anyone in the bottom because tati and Alyssa went home. So it’s basically the same outcome if roxxxy or phiphi stayed
The biggest mistake was katya/detox not eliminating alaska in the makeover challenge😂 that was like handing the 100k to alaska. Where’s naomi smalls when u need her
yeah but then they both wouldve had to have been on the same page because they BOTH need to come back into the competition with the double lip sync win. unless they just eliminated both phiphi AND roxxxy which would've been a gag too
I think do to phi phis games everyone wanted her to go and it was more of a group decision but they should’ve eliminated them both

The worst part about Lala's elimination was watching Alexis trying to flirt with her afterwards
The worst part of lala’s elimination was the fandom not realizing Alexis saved kandy because kandy was the only one that said she would eliminate jimbo and lala wouldn’t. It was a great potential move and I don’t blame kandy for looking out for herself

Alexis michelle is the true mastermind of as8 but it blew up in her face by miscalculating kandy. Alexis is so smart and wants to be in the top 3 of 9 and wanted it even more in as8. No one really knows the reason 100% why she chose lala over kandy, I don’t think she was scared I honestly think she took her alliance with kandy serious. kandy said that she was targetting jimbo and Alexis took that serious. She would never come clean about it but it’s the only one that makes sense…y’all need to watch s9 and untucked of s9 and watch how alexis is like that girl is so smart she thought she would win the season if jimbo went home versus the other queens there she’s mother tbh

For me the worst strategic move was when Bianca Del Rio tried to block Bebe on All Winners 2 but Bebe couldn't be blocked out of respect for Ben so Bianca got disqualified.

No. Cause what about that same season when Lala Ri got mad at Kennedy and then brought a horse to set to kick her in the face but it backfired and concussed Lala and Trixie got an infection from eating all the horse shit.
My personal least favourite strategic move on drag race was when the Vixen lip synced against Yuhua Hamasaki on All Stars 17 and performed gravity defying moves, causing Yuhua to high kick in her face, launching her off the stage and breaking a light, which meant neither of them won the lip sync and Michelle Visage was eliminated.
Was this before or after Porkchop won AS17 and Ru announced that she was retiring from drag race and was making Ornacia the new head judge of Drag race?

no one ever realizes this ALWAYS happens when you give The Hilarious Ross Matthews immunity. it kept Regular Sized Poundcake from winning AS11, it kept wintergreen from winning AS13 Petites Edition, and now michelle won't get 2nd on AS17.
Don't forget acid berry punching BOTH of Michelle's tits, that was so shocking
STOP because it legit happened in AS15 too!!! When Madam LaQueer performed that laser pointer backflip and kicked her heel into Carsons face and then he had to get that face transplant with Bianca !!! These queens never learn !!! DO YOUR HOMEWORK !!!!!
I would give an honourable mention to The Vivienne saying she wished she could have blocked Jinkx on AS7, leading to her getting blocked by Jinkx the following week (and costing her a star)
And then Vivienne blocked Jinkx right back the very next week. Although that next episode was a sewing challenge, so Jinkx was saved from losing on another star badge (due to sewing not being her strong suit).
Though Vivienne was a weird choice to win that week (the girl groups challenge). Her verse was fine, but as many have said, Shea or Monet would've made a lot more sense to have win instead.
Morgan's was the dumbest. It had direct consequences. The other ones are too heavily based on "what-if" scenarios while Morgan's decision led to her directly getting eliminated that same episode.
the irony of it all was that in retrospect, there was only one queen who would’ve faced difficulty with Morgan in the game, and that’s Dela. She was in the top basically every episode. In a way, them eliminating Morgan may have indirectly led to an even easier coast for Dela, while the others who, no shade, thought Morgan’s way of voting would effect them, lost one by one.
I’ll never understand why the queens on AS2 didn’t go after Rolaskatox.
From the first moment it was obvious that they were going to form an alliance and have each other’s backs.
They made it to top4 together in their original season so they should’ve been an obvious target.
Getting rid of Roxxxy when they had the chance would’ve open the door to also get rid of Detox or even Alaska.
Plus, it would’ve made the competition better since Alaska and Detox did save Roxxxy when she deserved to go home.
Not Detox.
She was basically never up for elimination. The only time she was up for elimination was when she had the best runway and better performance than the other Bottom 2.
Alaska would've been saved too. She was in the bottom when Detox won. That would've helped both of them. Only Roxxxy could've been eliminated.
@@ashishsingh4867 You are wrong. With Roxxxy out, the next episode the bottom would be Detox and Tati. If phiphi did good and vote Detox out, Alaska could be eliminated on makeover (without Detox to save her) and the top 4 would be Katya, Phiphi, Alyssa and Tati. So yes, Tati and Alyssa had the only chance to change the game and they did shit.
One thing for sure: if phiphi was kept, she would win the makeover, and the chances of Alaska going home would be great.

For starters, when Roxxxy was in the bottom, Alaska won the lipsync. So, that's not happening until the comedy challenge.
In the comedy challenge, Detox got better critiques than Alyssa. Detox's outfit was praised better than Alyssa too. She had the Top Toot that week.
And more importantly, Alaska won that lipsync. She wasn't going to send Detox home. So, Detox was going to stay even if she was in the bottom. Now, Detox was not going home when it was (assuming) her and Tati in the bottom. Not to forget, if PhiPhi was still there, she could've easily been in the bottom for the adv challenge.
But to even think of everything that you want to, she wasn't going home because Alaska won the lipsync that week.
Next week was Detox's win. She won the episode. She won the lipsync. Alaska was saved that way.
Even if PhiPhi made it through (which is all conjecture), she would be sent home that episode and if she makes it to Top2 that week, Alyssa would still go home because she was the returning queen.
The only thing that would happen is PhiPhi being Top4 with Detox, Alaska and Katya.
However, Alyssa was never going to save PhiPhi over Roxxxy. It's a no brainer.
So, Detox wasn't going anywhere. And Alaska would've stayed too.
Katya picked Roxxxy's lipstick twice but wasn't chosen as the lipsync winner, not even for the one she clearly won against Alaska, so...
I think Kandy knew she couldn't win either way. Sure, she had a better chance against Jessica (2 wins against 1) than Jimbo (2 against 4) but she also avoided the fan backlash that she would have by eliminating the fan-favorite (even though Jessica was my winner from the moment Heidi walked out)

@user-ke5rt3ji8c its both... if she eliminated jimbo she would have faced so much backlash, she would have no way of winning the season, handing the win to jessica. but by eliminating jessica she saves herself from backlash because saving jimbo was the 'fair' choice (4 wins vs 1, 1st bottom vs 3rd iirc) so she still has fan support. Besides, the finale is always a mv/dance challange and we all know jimbo cant do that so kandy still has the tiniest chance of winning.

I wanna say Pangina eliminating Jimbo should be on this list. Her and Jimbo had the best track records and after eliminating Jimbo is just made her the biggest target and showed she would take any of them out for doing good
Yes, absolutely. Because going into the top 2 with Jimbo would result in Pangina’s win. Not to mention the competition would be so much better to watch.

But Pangina would never eliminate Jujubee cause Pan herself said that Juju is her idol and both of them was so close after the show so i didnt think Pan would think about eliminating Juju

Tati probably knew that if she picked Roxxxy and Alyssa picked Phi Phi there was no way she was coming back. No way the producers would've passed up on that moment of Alyssa eliminating Phi Phi.
i think one of the best moves is definitely Salina stealing Mistress from Marcia, leaving her alone to bomb, and go home.
Imo the worst move in Drag Race history *HANDS DOWN* is Pangina eliminating Jimbo on UK Vs The World. It *L I T E R A L L Y* consted her the crown bcs Jimbo wasnt winning the LFTC anyways. Bcs either Jimbo or Baga win the lipsync and both are extremely smart (Baga only is when she wants too tho) and they are sending Mo or Jujubee home. Aint no way they are sending home Pangina bcs she was killing the competition and they dont want to get hate and especially Jimbo bcs Pangina just saved them. Pagina gave Jimbo a crown really.
Pangina is funny af and sews *really* well, so i dont see why in the hell sending Jimbo would be beneficial to her. Forming an allience with Jimbo actually is the best move since both clear out eachothers weakneses.

Yeah, I agree. Also, Blu mentioned In deliberations on UKvsTW that it was tempting since she already opened the door to eliminating the front runner. Sending home the strongest play is a double-edged sword since it can get you further in the competition, but also puts a target on your back.
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO SAID! This is the one time that a queen LITERALLY lost a season by her bad decision. Keeping Jimbo would definitely make her a winner
Elimination of stronger competitors = Smart move.
I wish the fandom would let these queens do the more strategic moves on all stars.
TBH I also think there's room to be said about Ginger and her needless fighting on Season 7. Thanks to untucked, we saw Ginger as something more than the fun campy musical queen we knew, and it tained her image along with Kennedy's, paving the way for Violet's win. I wouldn't usually assume this would count...until realizing she did the exact same thing on All Stars 6. Often times, Ginger would go against her word and while the queens never really got to call her out due to Ginger's decision making, I do think her fan reception tanked yet again while having one of the best track records. So two seasons she sort of snubbed herself of a deserved win.

So ironic that in Alexis' case, the most fair, most kind, and most loyal choices also turned up to be the smartest strategically. But she outsmarted herself with her disloyalty.
The worst move was when Melusine Sparkle did her ruveal during the critiques on Drag Race Brasil instead of doing it on the runway (saving herself from the bottom) or the lip sync (potentially saving herself from elimination)
And also... why did she take off the bra during the lip sync? I was so mad at the judges when they put her in the bottom, but then she had a sequence of just bad decisions 💀

I personally think Dela smelled a stunt coming with her winning so much. Production would of needed a shock twist as it was obvious Dela was winning the season. I think thats why she left, so she could leave on her own terms and not be eliminated by some shock production twist like Shangela was by the Jury vote.
I think so to plus the pressure she hated the elimination format she was originally asked back for allstars 2 but said no because the format they knew about it ahead of time even though they acted shocked and they weren’t even told about the jury twist until that day and Dela looked pissed the entire time and it was later revealed that she refused to participate in it but production told her if she didn’t she was in violation of her contract which kinda screwed Shangela over as well because she spent the whole season calling Dela fake and calculating and then needed her vote

Surprised me that this wasn't on the list, but the dumbest move ever was Manila voting for Monet on AS4. This is the decision that derailed the season. If she hadnt done that, she would have had the group's blessing and her and Latrice were friends anyway

I don’t understand why it was such a big deal. Monet won the girl group but she was terrible in all other challenges; the talent show, the snatch game and the improv. Latrice had a solid run until the improv challenge.
I hate that Kandy has to give up on her dream and 200k $ because of the fandom’s unjustified hate against her. Kandy did nothing to deserve the hate she got on AS8

How 'bout Mz Cracker not sending Shae home on the stand-up challenge?
Cracker was probably the runner-up, and having Blair instead of Shae at the finally would basically mean the only true contenders for the crown were her and Juju (who had more fan reception but a worst track record). I was pretty confused by Cracker's choice of booting Blair, who had no chance of winning-plus, Bob would be livid at the Pit Stop lmao!

I think then Ru would have crowned Juju. And they possibly would have chosen to give Cracker a far worse edit since it seems the content was there for it.

I NEVER understood this unless it was something that either Ru/Production wanted to keep Shea and wanted none of the fan backlash when the Queens eliminated Shangela and Trixie won the season. Ru would have been upset and crowned JuJubee or made an exception to keep Shea.@@kev7600
If Alexis had chosen Kandy's lipstick production would have made Nicky win the lipsync and the group would have sent Lala home anyways. Production wanted Kandy in the finale

I would like to point out something from All Stars 1: Yara Sofia pressing the button was a very bad move. Alexis was doing just fine and is arguably better at lip-syncing than Yara, so that was the first thing. Second thing, Raven was going to win either way because she completely sold the song, the moves, the everything. I mean, it was cool for us to see the switch for once, but it only ended up shooting Yarlexis in the foot because they lost and Raven got the storyline that she beat two girls at once. They probably would’ve lost either way, so it would’ve been more dignified if it was just Raven and Alexis lip-syncing.
Dela explained her decision in the "Exposed" podcast. It was kind of the sudden "now or never" moment, and when you hear her reasons, you know she did the right thing
Alexis didnt make a mistake voying for shay. The other girls made the mistake not voting for shay. Shay was the strongest girl there. She wasnt going to be in the bottom after that. They missed their one chance to get rid of the biggest threat early
Roxxxy was NOT worse than PhiPhi in the comedy challenge. 😂
You should do a part 1 & 2 to next weeks video. One for the winners that made choices that propped them up and a part 2 for people who didn’t win that made choices that pushed them further.
I love Drag Race x Survivor parallels. Kandy Muse was a power goat just like Russel Hantz. She was stirring the pot, making the moves, putting herself on the center of the alliances and all but she just didnt stand a chance in hell to win the whole thing.
Even if Kandy did send home Jimbo, then Jessica would have still won the season
But Jessica had less wins, and out of the two we know how much Ru likes Kandy

I think morgan telling her dumb strategy in front of everyone and getting mad that she was eliminated was so goofy, like girl. what did you expected? You call her a snake bcs you made the most basic mistake on that show???
I would also like to add regular season strategic moves too like when Adore gave out roles at random for the acting challenge. Or when Chelazon paired Kimmy and Fierce in the stand up challenge ultimately having Kimmy win. There are probably more decisions in regular drag race that fit like the ones from the lip sync lalaparuzas. But none were as severe as on All stars maybe.
When Alexis was picking out her lipstick, she saw Kandy dressed as Cindy Brady with a 🔫 and that’s what kept her from voting for Kandy.
I think Alexis’ decision makes a lot more sense if you think that the finale is next up and you might have to LSFTC against Lala. I don’t think they knew they were going to have competitive episodes up to top 3
Valentina and Naomi being in the bottom for club 96 was crazy. It was iconic. I don’t even remember the other sketches.
Katya and Detox not pulling Alaska lipstick is still insane to me. I would’ve chopped Alaska so fast and I wouldn’t have needed a moment to converse with the girls, either

I think a bad strategic move was when Trinity and shea didn’t prepare stunts for the lipsync finale
Oh for sure. People live for the lip sync stunts and in a season where there were already so many lackluster lip sync performances it would have been pure strategy at that point to make an iconic mark in your performance like Sasha with the rose petals and Peppermint with the wig AND dress reveal. And for Sasha to go on and have a mask reveal for the final lip sync against Peppermint, that was in itself a brilliant strategic move
I would love to see a video about the fake drag race drama, like someone punching Michelle in the left boob or that Blair st Clair was arrested on set. There is a gold mine of fake drama that is so ridiculous to look back on

haven’t seen the video yet (it can out 2 mins ago) but i was originally shocked when kandy chose jessica to stay. however, honestly it sort of made sense since kandy was much more likely to eat a lip sync/performance or even have a sasha velour moment during the finale. the support for jessica was so immense that it was sort of a lose lose for kandy, plus she could keep her main alliance and then hopefully face less fallout from the fandom.

Now that I think about it, a lot of the All Stars winners, at least post-AS2 and applying to Trixie, Shea and Jimbo, won because they had huge fanbases and the other queens didn't want the backlash irl had they eliminated them when they had the chance
If Pangina had eliminated Juju in UKvs the World she would have won the season. Jimbo would have won the Snatch Game with Baga, they'd eliminate Janey because Pangina would have kept to track record (with Lemon simply explained as Janey needing that). Then Pangina would have likely won the next challenge together with Mo and beat her at the lip sync and then just win the tournament without much difficulty.
I see that, but she'll have to deal with the backlash of eliminating a major fan favorite so that might have played a part in her decision

I agree that the Bendelachrist narrative doesn’t jive with how she voted. First her eliminating Morgan, then her bringing back Morgan when really Aja was more deserving, then her votes at the end shafting Shangela… so much for wanting the best person to win. I call shade.
Also, Bebe and Shangela didn’t ‘need’ the win, but neither did Trixie, who arguably was the most successful and popular out of any of the four finalists, and the least deserving to be in the top four. I still think AS3 was a total shit show.

While Alexis' vote is def a bad call at final 5, I would also argue LaLa really fumbled by not eliminating Alexis the round prior. Alexis was clearly talking out of both sides of her mouth all season and was never going to protect LaLa, and Kahanna staying would've guaranteed LaLa final 4 imo.
Also to be fair to the cast of AS8 - Jimbo was heavily protected by the judges. She should've been in the bottom during the rusical. If Drag Race wants to go in the direction of Survivor/BB style of strategy, you have to let your potential winners be in danger at some point (besides the final 3...), or their win feels unearned imo because you never see their social game put to the test.

I honestly don’t think what ifs and unforeseeable consequences warrant the label of “bad strategic decision”.
Honestly, for most of these the queens had no way of knowing things would turn out that way. So it’s not that the strategy of their choice was actually bad.
For me one of the worst strategic moves is Naomi eliminating Manila. If Monet had eliminating her it would make much more sense in the story line. Manila was supposed to be an inspiration to Naomi and she basically screwed her chance at winning for nothing. Let’s be real, Naomi was never winning that season when the other 3 of the top 4 has way better track records. So she basically got a huge amount of hate for eliminating a fan favorite for nothing.

Some of these only make sense with the power of hindsight. Dela didn't know Morgan would come back, Latrice didn't know the next challenges and Shangela didn't know there would be a jury at the end. I agree with the other two though, Rolaskatox was a clear alliance and Alexis said with every letter that she would keep Lala.

Alexis made the biggest mistake and gaurenteed her spot as 4th place. Also it was just weird and kind of uncomfortable seeing her flirt with Lala after. Though I do think Kandy was going to win the makeover regardless of whoever was there. Production made the lesbian makeover for Kandy to win.

If she didn't eliminated her, everybody would: 1 have another target to aim and 2: not have precedents to made such a BOLD decision that is eliminate the strongest competitor. Season would probably look like:
Snatch game: top 2: Jimbo and Baga (Jimbo isn't sending Pangina home right after she saved her - and even that Baga picked Pangina's lipstick, production would choose Jimbo as winner to avoid the elimination of a front-runner)
After the snatch game, Pangina would win the rumix, make to the top 4 and would destroy anyone there in the LFTC.
I'm sure she definitely would won the season if she kept Jimbo.

Alyssa and Tatianna couldn’t have planned to eliminate both Phi Phi and Roxxy because they didn’t know it would be a double shantay. They were kind of doomed since even if they eliminated Roxxy, I think Phi Phi would still hold a grudge against Alyssa down the road. Bottom line, I don’t think it was that bad of a decision unless they knew they would both be able to pull a lipstick. Would have been iconic for both of them to go home that episode.

I’d say that for Alyssa specifically, in the moment, eliminating PhiPhi was the smartest choice. She already knew Phi Phi had it out for her, so why on earth would she keep her around?

Dead. Why we even talk about AS3, that was highly produced for Trixie's win? No matter how hard Kennedy, Shangie or Dela fought, they'd be eliminated to clear the path for Trixie. That's kinda obvious. This fandom is telling all the time, that AS5 was produced for Shea, however, forgetting that AS3 was made for Trixie's coronation as well as AS2 for Alaska's and AS1 for Chad. C'mon, producers would never ever dared anyone to send Chad, Alaska, Trixie or Shea home, so that's when all the problems for the other girls begin.
I think you’ve got the Alexis thing a bit wrong, but that’s just because we never once see her say she will save LaLa. She never promised that. I say “I’ll never forget this” all the time, it doesn’t mean I’m making some blood pact to aid the person. Also, we know from post show stuff that Alexis and Jessica were close throughout the competition. The editing didn’t show us, because the editing is shit, but that’s a whole other story. That whole season was crappy, wrong wins given to people etc.
To me another not so smart strategic moment was Katya keeping Alaska when she could’ve eliminated her. If Katya Eliminated Alaska her win would’ve secured. That’s kinda what happened with Blu in UKvsTheWorld.
When could have Katya eliminate Alaska? She was never winning against Detox' ass.
I'd say Pangina eliminating Jimbo should be in the top 5:
- Jimbo had 2 wins of 3 challenges - the only person who could compete with that WAS Pangina - so eliminating Jimbo sets a huge target on her back
- Considering the challenges following Jimbo's elimination, Jimbo would probably end the season with 3 wins (I imagine she would beat out Blu Hydrangea in snatch game), and at snatch game, if Jimbo wins the lip sync (unlikely), Jimbo owes Pangina. If Baga wins the lip sync (likely), she is likely to eliminate Janey, who did the worst in snatch game, and had a worse track record than Pangina.
- And at the finale, assuming Pangina and Jimbo make it that far based on their track record, Jimbo is likely gonna be cut early due to the format of the finale, and Pangina seems to be one of the most competent lip syncers, and would likely beat out anyone, so, she may have had a shot of winning.

I think Pangina eliminating Jimbo was a bad strategic move, although she claimed it wasn’t strategic. By bringing home the idea of sending home the front runner she essentially sealed her own fate. I think had she eliminated Jujubee - there would’ve been a good chance that Baga and Blu would have chosen Janey’s names over hers for Snatch Game. And had Jimbo been in the top with Baga instead of Blu for Snatch Game like some people theorise, she might have even saved Pangina for saving her…
I am so confused by this list. Number 5 wasn’t nearly as big as the honorable mention, number 4 doesn’t make sense either because Dela was sending herself home reguardless. She didn’t want to win. And the game and memorability she got from it was worth more than 100k… and the fact Morgan saying she was sending strong girls home wasn’t actually on the list is crazy…
