It's expensive relative to our salaries. Rent for a 50m2 apartment is 450e and the average salary is 600e, add bills to the equation and you're paying the rent and bills more than what you earn per month. Nyc may be expensive but you definitely don't pay rent and bills more than your month's salary worth
@@mkedan6741 Mr. Henderson opinion is solely based on Western money invested in low tax counties, and that has nothing to do in terms of economic and political situations for people FROM Serbia. And that hat has nothing to do with the average Serbian person, it's an elitist Western point of view, where he will take his money, no matter what. There is a huge misunderstanding within this debate. The foreigners can't see how much sharper the line between poverty and luxury is for the locals, and the locals cannot zoom out from their struggled financial situations enough to see the good sides like safety, health and individual freedoms or traditions that they're enjoying. West doesn't have these freedoms at all. Yes, the game is rigged against you if you are a common Serb. Sanctioned, low salaries, always needing some "I know a guy who knows a guy" to get certain things done, no safety nets. But you need to _acknowledge_ that and find ways to secure yourself knowing what's up. If you do, you will quickly realize you're living in one of the best places in the world. This may sound like I'm already there, so let me assure you that I am not. I still struggle here, but not for long. The thing that changed within me at some point was the *understanding that I haven't found a way,* while many people have and are living nice. It is unfortunate that even after a quarter of a century, some Serbs still struggle to accept the reality of Kosovo’s independence. This attitude often seems to be more of a façade, rooted in deeply ingrained, unresolved historical traumas and nationalist narratives. The lack of reflection and self-criticism regarding their own past exacerbates the issue, as there is an absence of honest engagement with the events. Additionally, many people are still being deliberately bombarded with propaganda, which maintains old enemy images and unrealistic notions, instead of paving the way for dialogue and reconciliation. Spent just a few days in Belgrade but think it's my new favourite country, probably wouldn't have considered it without Andrew. Thanks for everything Andrew & the Nomad Capitalist team
Lots to love about Belgrade. Strategic location in Europe, lively city, interesting history, lots of opportunity for nomads and it's the hub of the region, as Mr. Henderson says.
I'm a foreigner that has been living in Belgrade for 8 years now, married a Serb and have a kid here, and I have an online business here, so thought I'd chime in with couple additions to this video for anyone thinking of relocating here... Pros: You will have a great lifestyle IF you have money - as one of the entrepreneur guys said, if you have a business with clients outside of Serbia, your money goes VERY far here and you will have a very comfortable lifestlye. No woke bullshit here - more traditional kind of culture and society. Guess it all depends on what you like but I personally prefer a more traditional culture over this woke degeneracy I see in the West these days. Here I can send my kid to school and I know she won't be getting brainwashed by some radical left wing lunatic. VERY safe - compared to cities in Western Europe I've been to, Belgrade is super safe. I don't think I have ever once felt unsafe in the entire 8 years I've been here and that includes my time before I was married and staying out at pubs and splavs until 5 in the morning. Literally never had any issues. Hospitality and social vibes - Serbs are probably the friendliest people I met in all my travels in Europe. You literally can go to kafana and just random people will buy you drinks if they hear you're a foreigner because you're a guest in their country (at least that was my experience). And social atmosphere here is very lively, people really value social connections, friends, that sort of thing. Cons: Serbia is very tough if you work a typical 9-5 job here. Salaries here are pretty poor so just be aware if you come here, make sure you come here as an entrepreneur (which I suspect most people wathcing a channel like this would be) because salaries here are bad even for many people that work in professional fields. It's CAN be crazy expensive - again this is relative. If you have an online biz with clients outside of Serbia, you don't really notice the costs of things. But if you work a typical 9-5 job here, shit is crazy expensive from rent to prices of food in a supermarket, petrol, etc. Pollution in winter is atrocious in Belgrade. Be prepared for this if you come here that you're gonna be dealing with shocking air quality for probably 3 months at least. Driving culture - I guess this one is also relative depending where you're coming from but for me, driving culture here is insane. I swear 90% of drivers here are utter lunatics, literally don't give a shit about basic road rules, don't want to stop for pedestrians, park literally wherever they feel like parking, or even respect basic driving courtesy.
Actually, regarding pollution, we used to have very strong winds (koshava, 120km/h) that comes from Carpathian mountains, particularly in winter period, and which totally clears the air. Unfortunately, it is almost non existent last few years, probably due to climate change.

That's the kind of a show we needed. I'm tired of watching videos about some country to only hear what is the minimal salary, welfare and so on. I'm not traveling to be a plumber in Serbia, I'm traveling to live like a king! 👑 All the love and prosperity to Serbian brothers and sisters 💪
They told how delivery in a birth house is free, but he did not tell you how birth houses look like and how aggressively pregnant women are treated there. This video presents a very one-sided perspective on life in Belgrade. Apart from that, things presented are quite shallow and meaningless (the nightlife at this wannabe Moulin Rouge, starting to go out at 1am is early, super expensive wine only the very rich can afford, luxury fashion you can literally buy everywhere in the world… not many authentic Serbian things in this video have been presented, sadly.
Bro, this channel is called "Nomad capitalist". The word capitalist comes from Latin "capita" meaning "heads". In ancient times a King was considered "rich" if he had a lot of servants working as employees for him and an army with a lot of men capable of fighting a war or to defend the country. The power of a King was calculated not only by the amount of weapons, vehicles, horses, food etc but also and specially by the amount of men he had at its disposition to use those weapons, vehicles and horses. So each year the wealth of a King was written in annual royal inventory books as "capital", meaning "amount of heads". In the same way a peasant will count his "capital" by the amount of "heads" of horses, cows or pigs, the King though will count his capital by the amount of "heads"of men serving him. This is how through time the word for "rich" became "capitalist". In other words, you are watching a channel for people who already have enough "capital" and when travel they do not have to worry about how to make money in the place where they arrive. This channel is not about "how to survive in Serbia". That topic is important but you have to go and find other channels for that kind of discussions. Have a nice day.
I have to say I absolutely love this format for a video.. it's refreshing, light, vibrant yet very informative. I hope that you use this format in future videos as well.
Listen i just want to tell you guys, you're doing great. I love this (looking into new cultures and countries), I would appreciate it if you do this more often with other countries. Keep up the good work!
It is safe, but the more internet trends and cultural manipulation comes from the West, the more the country loses its old glory. Just as Europe lost its soul through the mixing of cultures and globalism, Serbia will gradually lose its authenticity of the unknown. As much as videos like this help the world to know about us, they also create a danger that we will become like everyone else.
I mean people are moving out of Serbia and have been for a while now, -600.000 in the last 10 years, and that for a relatively speaking small country is a LOT. Basically a country that is great to live in if you have money but not really if you dont, foreigners love Serbia is what i have noticed but they dont know the situation when it comes to politics and how people involved are slowly ruining it day by day, sadly.
Belgrade is not Serbia, it is a capitol city and therefore it's a metropole not only of Serbia but of Balkans !! Its very normal for changes to happen as they have for centuries in Belgrade, but you are way out with your statement !! You need to look at your history and understand the mentality of your people, by that I mean the vast majority and not the few in Belgrade that are chasing the Western dreams. Those are very minor compared to the population. Like Hungarian, Serbian mentality will stay Serbian. I'm a professor of Slavistics here in Canada and I received my masters in Belgrade and Kiev !!
@@mcsg5053 As a Canadian I can tell you that without money it's not good here or anywhere in the world !! Why do you make such an uneducated and bias statement. That Belgrade and Serbia, which you are now praising, your country is not legally bombarding with ferro and depleted uranium bombs, the radiation of which has caused about 300,000 people to get cancer and die. The aggression and bombing of Serbia lasted 78 days/24 hours a day. True, Serbs are the most hospitable people in Europe, but they don't forget. The largest number of fighter planes were from Germany, the UK, the USA, and France. Until now, there has never been an apology to the Serbian people, you have never paid the Serbian people the damage caused by the destruction of the infrastructure of Serbia, which your countries have committed, which is at least a trillion dollars.
Correct my understanding, because your viewpoint is common. Yugoslavia was killing and displacing Albanians living in Kosovo. These acts risks destabilazation of the area. Yugoslavia refused more than one diplomatic solution. Those were bad decisions. NATO bombing ultimately resolved the matter. Warfare is terible--for the people of Belgrade as well as the people of Kosovo. You tell the story as if Serbians were just peacefully going about their business and all of a sudden, without warning, these evil NATO nations just started dropping bombs. Ethnic Albanians could tell their own horror stories and air their grievances against Serbia. You want an apology? You should have accepted the diplomatic solutions presented to you. You dared NATO to act. Shouldn't you take a little responsibility for the debacle?

Hospitality and social vibes - Serbs are probably the friendliest people I met in all my travels in Europe. You literally can go to kafana and just random people will buy you drinks if they hear you're a foreigner because you're a guest in their country (at least that was my experience). And social atmosphere here is very lively, people really value social connections, friends, that sort of thing.
Cons:
Serbia is very tough if you work a typical 9-5 job here.
You can't be from Belgrade if you don't absolutely hate the traffic and the drivers 🤣🤣🤣
I agree it's the worst traffic and pollution in Europe. Not fun.
Actually, regarding pollution, we used to have very strong winds (koshava, 120km/h) that comes from Carpathian mountains, particularly in winter period, and which totally clears the air. Unfortunately, it is almost non existent last few years, probably due to climate change.
Finally objective comment. If you think to come here and work for living you are about to be very badly surprised.
@@JoseBoy-ve5kb All of these videos are just designed for marketing purposes to sell to Westerners, hence why I thought I'd add some objectivity based on my actual experience living here as a foreigner.
"Men to the left.. because women are always right" Haha, that was clever. This is a great video, because it shows what things are really like in Belgrade. I was very surprised by the high level of sophistication in their use of the English language. I also liked the sense of uniqueness in the culture. Thanks for an eye opening view of this beautiful place.
We moved fron USA to Serbia 3 years ago. Best decision ever we have made
Could you elaborate ? We are a northern Mexican family living in Ireland, but we have lived in the US and believe there's more opportunities.
@@santiagotowers2533They are Serbians that's why they fit into Serbia. For Mexicans USA is better option considering how many of your people live over there.
@goxyeagle8446 I already paid the US Exit tax, and Ireland made more sense for my kids' tutoring and simplified tax home base planning. Do you know the Swiss Canton's requirements ?

I travelled across Serbia over 4 days (Novi Sad, Beograd, Nis) and remember the "Rostilj" take-outs on every other street corner. Hotels were about 20 euro per night. Liked Serbia much more than Croatia. English proficiency seemed better the further south I went in the Balkans, but I never travelled much into the rural areas.
Thats interesting coz further south you go serbian language "go down south" lol
Hotels are 20€ anymore😂 that was like that years ago. Hotels are now 80€

Thank you.
My favorite place to live in serbia 🇷🇸 for many reasons
Wow, this really highlights the beauty of the nomad capitalist lifestyle! Living luxuriously in a place like Belgrade, while enjoying the freedom to explore the world, is what it's all about.
Thank you very much for the compliment.
Serbia looks absolutely beautiful, and the culture seems so vibrant. I’d love to visit one day and experience it all firsthand. Petrus Pomerol looks inviting! Hvala for this amazing series, I really enjoyed watching it.
Beautiful place with beautiful people. Absolutely magnificent.❤
Прекрасная страна! Замечательные Люди с душой❤️

Whenever I see this kind of video, I recognize again how the world is massive. God bless you.
No we don't learn English from movies. We learn English in schools, since the age of 8, until the end of university. This is where our solid English comes from 🎉
I was walking there 2 hours ago so 1 hour before on waterfront before your live video and I feel relaxed! any day any time when you walk you do not feel unsafe at any corner of Belgrade!
I miss visiting Belgrade on a regular basis. Really looking forward to this episode! Živeli!

Thank you for your honesty. I was born in Skopje, moved to NJ when I was 5, got married in Bitola, moved to Calitornia, had my kids in San Diego and came back to Bitola, Makedonia in 2007, have my own business making 6 figure US salary. Agree with everything you and your guests said about culture, raising kids, no weird Woke culture, and the best wines in the Balkans coming from MK. Love your channel.
Great work and a very insightful video, continuously opening our eyes to new countries and the benefits of a Nomad Capitalist lifestyle. Thank you!
We love Novak!

Not seen any tattooed women, so far. Belgrade is looking good!
good point, sharp eye, I agree
Just breathe the air from November until March, and let me know if its looking good lol. One of many reasons why ten of thousands Serbs leave the country every year..

There is no such as perfect place anywhere in the world but as per today Serbia and Belgrade is one of best options for normal life with traditional family values- if you can afford it as its not that cheap as used to be.
Nicely done video.
👍👍❤.❤
Yeah, maybe but not for Serbians. They are making like €600 per month.

Such a great city!
I look forward to this👌. Currently living in Novi Sad...not too far away from Belgrade.
My town my country i lived in Italy and England but now in that countrys no freedom taxes sky high. Anyone who wants should come and see for themselves, experience Belgrade and Serbia, I am not saying that we are without flaws, I am not saying that we are the best, but come spend a week and then decide. We like to enjoy life we like to eat quality food without GMO we love to drink and most of all we like to party. Welcome to Belgrade.
Belgrade is by far the best city in which to live, in the world. Not by any standard metrics, but by the sense of freedom, warmness, joy and epicness when you walk the streets.
So true! Love my city! We do have some infrastructural issues that we have to work on, but we'll solve those 😊❤🎉
This should be interesting, my ancestor lost his life taking the city from the Ottoman Empire in the 1600s.

Thank you for watching.
Thank you Mr Henderson. Lovely video. Lovely Belgrade.

Great video! Thanks for the inside look at Belgrade..
You’re welcome.
A very romantic view of Belgrade and Serbia, the reality is a little different...
Thank you for the compliment. More coming soon to the Live Like a King series.
Liberland is so interesting ! I love the initiative
First I ever hear of it, very intrigued to have something like this in the Balkans
I don't think I want to emigrate to a new country built on a floodplain.
Listen i just want to tell you guys, you're doing great. I love this (looking into new cultures and countries), I would appreciate it if you do this more often with other countries. Keep up the good work!
Thank you.
That's going to happen with or without these videos, both Europeans and Americans are going the way of the dodo.
Approximately 100,000 Canadians move out of Canada every year, 4,000,000 live abroad, we import 700-1,000,000 immigrants every year to fill the gap !!
@@GlobalResearch2001 Yeah Serbia is on the same path then lol, do you know who works construction or drives buses in Serbia? Want a spoiler? Im just saying that no country is perfect and Serbia aint perfect.

That Belgrade and Serbia, which you are now praising, your country is not legally bombarding with ferro and depleted uranium bombs, the radiation of which has caused about 300,000 people
to get cancer and die. The aggression and bombing of Serbia lasted 78 days/24 hours a day. True, Serbs are the most hospitable people in Europe, but they don't forget.
The largest number of fighter planes were from Germany, the UK, the USA, and France. Until now, there has never been an apology to the Serbian people, you have never paid the Serbian people
the damage caused by the destruction of the infrastructure of Serbia, which your countries have committed, which is at least a trillion dollars.
I’ve always wanted to visit Belgrade, especially after watching LLAK series. Great content!
