myself as an american, living in colombia for some time now, it's cool to see that all the colombians in this video speak really good english. that's not been my experience in every day interactions with locals. the colombians that have money enroll their children in English classes early. Colombia is a great country and so are it's people. great video!
Awesome 😂 Am a Cali, Colombian Borne and I grew up in The USA 🎉 Primarily, in: California, New York, Miami and Arizona. Am back in Colombia, for a bit... Am so happy of hearing above your own powerful, positive, experiences ❤🎉😊 Am practicing my Mother, tongue and making progress. 😂 Yes, it does get me frustrated at time's and specially with many hotels and restaurants; am hoping that people will take more interests in learning, English as it's the Universal language to conduct a serious, growth in business, worldwide. I tried German 😅 Most Colombians, who will pickup another language, will choose ; Italian and French; while both are lovely languages. However, their uses are limited outside of their own, respective countries. English and Spanish, will provide you, with a great time 😅❤🎉 Cheers to You and yours. 🙏🥳🥰🤩🎯🙏
A few months ago a video went viral in which a foreigner ordered his food in English and the waitress did not understand him. The foreigner's Colombian girlfriend tried to mediate and translate into Spanish, but the foreigner interrupted her girlfriend and told her, "She has to learn." A Colombian who overheard the conversation interrupted and said, "She doesn't need to learn English, you need to learn Spanish." This sparked a debate on social media. The massive arrival of foreigners, and especially this type of attitude, has made Colombians more apprehensive and intolerant towards foreigners. A piece of advice: many of you want to leave "America", but "America" must also come out of you, from your being. It makes no sense to leave America to be America somewhere else. especially need to abandon this "gringo perspective" that you may not be aware of and that you mean no harm, but that is annoying and sometimes even disrespectful. This is compassionate advice to avoid a similar or undesirable situation. I hope you enjoy and get involved with the culture
I absolutely love Bogotá. I’m generally a person who likes quiet beach towns, but I ended up in Bogotá accidentally and fell in love with it. It’s a very beautiful city with so many beautiful Parks and the people are kind and interesting. As a Canadian, I can’t even afford fruits and vegetables anymore but Bogota has some incredibly cheap produce! With break discount stores like D1 and Ara, you can eat like a queen here. I usually rent Airbnb‘s either in Chaparino,el Chico Norte or the Financial district which I find all really safe. The only down part about Bogotá is the weather. There really is not much sunshine, it’s not that warm, and it rains a lot. The altitude also gets to me sometimes although the altitude is not as high as in Cusco in Peru, it still bothers me. Thank you for the great video.😊
I used to rent an apartment in Chico Norte and it was 700USD a month, 70m2 2 bedrooms, all the amenities. Really good place to live. Not the most recent building but that amount is the starting point in the area and it can go really high closer to the mountain.
We love it! - We lived in Bogota for about 2 years. The only thing missing in this video is taking a stroll up a mountain like Monserrate and Quebrada la Vieja. That could have happened between 6am - 9am. 🙂

@@nomadcapitalistis it safe? Relatively speaking. I see a lot of “passport bros” getting drugged down there. Are tourist in general being targeted or is that primarily men looking for “working girls”?
Oh yes, Bogota is DEFINITELY a dog culture. I noticed this distinctive difference between Peru and Colombia: in peru, cats are more revered almost always living indoors while dogs live on the streets. But that is not the case in Bogota. I love Chico its my home away from New Jersey ❤️ Bosque de Maria, a little north of Chico in Usaquen, is another unknown gem. Lovely people
I was fortunate to live in Bogotá for almost 2 years, which makes Bogotá an excellent city to live in? Its rich culture, its landscapes, its exquisite food, the kindness and hospitality of its people.
I love Bogota. So green but without the uncomfortable heat of South East Asia or Dubai. The architecture is more elegant. I think most people will find colombians more fun and outgoing as well. It is a very family oriented but very progressive as well on social issues, so no problems for women, sexual minorities etc like in other parts of the world. And I think there are lots of hot men and women hahaa, which is always a big plus for many.
theres physical poverty and theres mental poverty, unfortunately mental poverty in the form of envy, resentfulness and hate used to be the norm in the country, luckily in the last years you can see more and more people breaking the chains and focusing on building their own path instead of waiting for someone or the goverment to come and fix their problems
@@ivanm.bricenop.5576 and where do you take that 95% of Bogotas population dont have enough to eat? Do a bit of research only 3% of the cities population live in "pobreza multidimensional) (IPM). And this is exactly what I was refering to earlier, some people repeat the same old left wing party narratives, they dont bother to do their own research to validate their assumptions. Bogota isnt obviously a rich city, where wealth is fairly distributed but more attention needs to be directed on its potential rather than on its flaws
I have dual Citizenship Colombia 🇨🇴/ Spain🇪🇸, and this guy is spot on. You really can live like a king 👑 in Colombia. I work from Colombia for British and American companies, and the contrast in the cost of living is very noticeable, you can live very comfortably if you have an income above Usd $43k a year. Yes, it's true that the GINI index is 51.5, which makes it an upper middle-income economy so although you have the typical inequality you see in Latin America, Colombia does have the most stable democracy in the region and Bogota is more or less on par with most of what you'd find abroad in terms of gastronomy, entertainment, shops, culture, etc
Now _this_ is what I'm talking about. Very nice Andrew; do more of this. It's a welcome break from the in-studio complaining about what this country or that country is doing, or from just using words to talk about how to live a "Nomad Capitalist lifestyle"; this _shows_ how to live one. Or at least, shows what one could look like.
As the taylor said: Bogota is a formal city... old bogotanos used to dressed like in London -due to the weather, pretty rainy like old London- and really appreciated and valued the English cloth and fabrics. My bogotano granddadd was a high-end taylor and was always elegant dressed even on sundays... maybe that´s the reason why "cachaco" is a way to called bogotanos, because they they wore shirts (CAmisa), vests (CHAleco) and ties (COrbata).
Wonderful video that captures the diverse amenities that Bogota can offer to those who choose to experience the city. Bogota is a top destination for luxury on a friendly budget for many. @@danielalfonsoramos3349 I disagree. That's precisely why Colombia is known for being a happy country. USA is boring because everything is work. The most important things in life are not about money, but about relationships, either family, friends or colleagues.
I brought a house in Brooklyn New York in 1995 for 260k when I was 20 years old I sold it two years ago for 1,200,000 at 50 years old and retired in Colombia. I live like a king here with a 2000$ dollar a month budget. I rent a Miami style brand new high rise condo for 300$ a month. Life in new York city wasn't fun anymore the average American male no matter what age no matter how rich or how poor lives like a castrated caged animal. Dating was so difficult in the USA. In your view, which one do you prefer - Mexico City(Or other major cities in Mexico) or Bogota? What do you like about Bogota that other major Mexican cities don't have?
Yes, Manizales is a nice moutain coffee town. Plenty of well-to-do Colombians prefer the warm sunny spring weather of Medillin to the cool rainy spring weather of Bogota, so there's that. I've always enjoyed Colombia since first visiting in the 1980's. I have no bad vibe about living in Colombia.
Bogotá is a beautiful city, you can find everything, in addition, it is a city for all types of budgets, with the dollars of a middle class family in the USA you can live like a king in Bogotá. 🇨🇴👏
Thank you for this video with a positive view of Bogotá. Colombia is one of those countries where people make an effort to make you feel at home. In Bogotá, you can enjoy all the advantages that a great first world city has to offer with a vibrant lifestyle that, in my opinion, is somewhat European. Once again, thank you for all this positive information about the city.
@@Frivals Yes, it is necessary to know how to live in Colombia as well as in many other countries, especially in big cities. It requires developing certain habits, certain attitudes that Americans may lack of. In Bogotá, he lives in a high socioeconomic level where these types of precautions are not unusual. Having a driver who is also a bodyguard is not uncommon. Private security companies are very common in buildings, malls, etc. They are seen everywhere. One cannot simply buy a convertible BMW, show off your expensive Rolex and iPhone, and think that nothing will happen. It doesn't work that way in Colombia and many other parts of the world.
First went to Colombia for dental tourism and fell in love with the country. The dentist was educated in the US and charged pennies on the dollar. The facilities were top notch - better than most US clinics. Now, I forsake the dental insurance and make a trip to Colombia every year. Dental insurance in the US, after all, doesn't really cover that much. To give some idea on the differences in services between the US + Colombia: I had 2 root canals and was charged $240 with the exchange rate of 6 years-ago. The work was done the same day it was diagnosed.
I agree with you. I am Colombian and go in vacation with my husband ones a year we always take a chance a go to the dentist. Here they always charging you a crown around 1500 dollars even if you don't need it. I keep my insurance here in case I need some work done.

Bogotá is an underrated city! I visited in 2018. I like the climate there, and of course the amazing coffee. I recommend you always pay the cab drivers in cash! Got my cards skimmed there. However the Colombian people are wonderful
Don't forget the driver, the cleaning lady (live in if you have young kids), nannies. It's a great place to raise a family. Most places have gate people or are in gated communities.
@@joannabusinessaccount7293 you need to calm down. I live in a neighborhood where I'm the only non-colombian and most everyone with kids has nannies, cleaning ladies and/or cooks, we have gardeners in the neighborhood too. I don't know where you're from, but it is a norm to have nannies, cooks and cleaning ladies (Empleadas), way before gringos started rolling into Colombia in packs. If you're on a finca, it is common to have a family or two who live on the property and take care of it, animals, and gardens. And, also, long, long history of this before gringos discovered Colombia.
@@joannabusinessaccount7293 also, your ignorance is showing. Most of the people that have those jobs are often coming from neighborhoods where they don't have other opportunities and were taken advantage of local community. My empleada only did cleaning once a week. She used to work at a flower farm. She earned minimum wage. When her son got sick, she was fired because she had to take care of him and it was hard for her to go to the flower far regularly.. When she worked for me, she could bring her son, she worked less hours and earned double, and could have more time with her son. We also helped her find more jobs like that and it helped her save money and get a better apartment. We gave her everything that we would be getting rid of so she was able to get stuff she could use and either sell or give away things to family or the church. We had old baby things that benefited her neighbor, a single mom. She was very sad when we had to move about 45 minutes away and let her go, and she said that she would even go 45 minutes each way to come work for us. We made sure she filled her times with good people to upkeep her income. So kindly, do think before you type.

@@joannabusinessaccount7293It feels rather odd that you don’t realize how every country that is now rich and developed has had to undergo phases of low-skilled intense-hours labor with low wages, in order to accumulate the capital needed which in turns allows to increase productivity, wages, cut down on working hours, and enjoy a higher standard of living. Such has been the case in the US, Canada, Europe, Japan, more recently in Taiwan, Singapore, China, etc. why would you frown upon one of the natural phases of a country wanting to reach progress and wealth? How else do you suggest a society to accumulate the capital required to raise living standards? By sleeping? By accumulating monopolistic regulations that make employment impossible or a luxury for a reduced number of workers?
This was a fantastic way to introduce Bogota! Part Rick Steves, part Anthony Bourdain (RIP), and all Nomad Capitalist! Now I have another country to check out.
Colombia currently has the 3rd best health care system in the American Continent, behind Costa Rica (1st) and Canada (2nd). Now, I have no experience with Canada's system, but I've been hospitalized/had surgeries in both Colombia and Costa Rica and I personally rank the Colombian system over the Costa Rican, especially if you have the financial means. What makes CR shine is its universality regardless of income class.
That is the most hilarious comment so far. Canada second? Are you using 1970s data😂😂😂? Private medicine is good if you can afford it, most locals cant but the EPS system is going down the tubos fast, justl ike Canadas ALREADY did.
Just take into account CR is even smaller (both population and surface) and a lower GDP" than Colombia´s Antioquia state, whose capital city is Medellin, so just for them is easier to manage as one state, but is a beautiful great country.
I was born in Bogota and lived there for 30 years. This video is incomplete because it does not tell investors about Colombia being in an earthquake zone and the frequency of the tremors, also related to that the concern is the quality of the construction of the the buildings, many of them were not build with high quality standards and the authorities look the other way, because there is corruption and lots of bureaucracy. Google the news about the shortage of water in Bogota, is affecting hotels, restaurants, hospitals. The current president was part of the guerrilla groups, there is still kidnapping going on. The best of Colombia is the food and the loving people of the middle class. Rich people don’t pay taxes, there is very limited budget to invest in infrastructure. Now you have more of a complete picture. I love Colombia and am very proud of my roots, I love it with imperfections and all ❤.
@@Black-Circle also not mentioned in videos for Bogota and Mexico city: social inequality, the traffic doesn’t flow and some areas are not safe; investors deserve to know there is homework that only the owner of the $ can do.
But I don’t recall seeing news about earthquakes destroying Bogotá during the past 100 years so… 🤔 And traffic is awful in many major cities. I get what you are saying but it’s not a big issue for investors, I think.
Only the Andean region is prone to earthquakes. This is not the case for the Caribbean region. Everything else you said it's true. I own property in Cartagena, so I am familiar with the Counties geography.
I am Colombian but when I do the numbers things do not add up. Living in a secondary city in Portugal or Spain costs about the same. I would add safer, better infrastructure, less corruption, better public services, less currency exposure, less expensive healthcare and similar taxes.
Where do you live? Im Romanian but my daughter is half Colombian as well, currently living with her mom in Minca, country side by choice since we do homeschooling and me and her mom separated. I’m in the UK at the moment. I’m very close to move most of my earnings to come from online so I was debating spending my life between Colombia, Romania and also set Home in Spain as a middle point?
I live in Mexico for work reasons but close to retirement and debating if I should go back to Colmbia. I also hold Spanish citizenship. The only reason I am considering to go back are my aging parents. Once they are gone most likely I will be out of there. Colombia does not make sense from a safety, cost, nor tax point of view. There is also too much currency exposure and legal & economic uncertainty with the current government. It is certainly an option for those who do not have access to Southern Europe but in your case and mine, not to be considered for permanent residence.
@@RicardoGonzalez-lo5ur Thank you for getting back to me. I realised there s no perfect place in the world, I do love Colombia as my home country Romania but I don’t think I want to be in any of them for the whole year around. We shall see. Wishing you best of luck in your endeavour. Did you grow up near or in Barranquilla by any chance?
@@RicardoGonzalez-lo5urI am a Colombian too living in the UK but, unlike you, I can't wait to go back home. The current government is doing great although government revenue is running rather low at the moment. About Bogotá and the cost of middle cities in Portugal or Spain, you can't compare them like for like. If you can afford the lifestyle shown in this video in Bogotá, then go and have it in Madrid, Lisbon or Barcelona and we are talking, you would have to multiply your costs by at least two.
I would only suggest staying around the "Centro Internacional" area which is strategically located in between the airport, the center and the north part of city where this video takes place. Plenty of good Airbnb offers in the buildings around there.
I really enjoy practicing my English with this overview such a snob and respectful about my city. This is definitely a different view of here. Thank you for sharing which UK and Colombia have in common.
What a nice video, makes me feel proud of my city, after 23 years living in Miami, i am very happy to return to Bogota, now i appreciate more things like the nice weather and the fantastic food, there are a ton of nice bars and restaurants in the city and the surroundings in the savanna, also many concerts and trade shows events, Bogota like the big cities ot has problems, but overall is really nice, is a mix between a latin and a european citiy, is very cosmopolitan.
Colombia is the best country to live and invest in real estate but it is not a good country to create a company because of the taxes. Paying taxes per person is cheap, but per company, it is almost abusive.
Wow. As a Colombian that just came back from London I would've never imagined someone compare Bogota with London. I hope that with time we can address social issues and build proper public transport infrastructure like in London. Thanks for highlighting the best our country has to offer, as we currently have a long way to go in changing the world's view of us as a drug-and-prostitution country.

myself as an american, living in colombia for some time now, it's cool to see that all the colombians in this video speak really good english. that's not been my experience in every day interactions with locals. the colombians that have money enroll their children in English classes early. Colombia is a great country and so are it's people. great video!

Most Colombians, who will pickup another language, will choose ; Italian and French; while both are lovely languages.
However, their uses are limited outside of their own, respective countries.
English and Spanish, will provide you, with a great time 😅❤🎉

@@azdbuk i know what you mean but don't worry, only about 4% of colombians speak English

Kinda Seattle then? How much money 2 people need to live comfortably in the neighborhoods u mentioned?
I used to rent an apartment in Chico Norte and it was 700USD a month, 70m2 2 bedrooms, all the amenities. Really good place to live. Not the most recent building but that amount is the starting point in the area and it can go really high closer to the mountain.

This is the Bogotá that 95% of citizens never have lived in their lifes, only rich people attend this kind of places ...
theres physical poverty and theres mental poverty, unfortunately mental poverty in the form of envy, resentfulness and hate used to be the norm in the country, luckily in the last years you can see more and more people breaking the chains and focusing on building their own path instead of waiting for someone or the goverment to come and fix their problems

As the taylor said: Bogota is a formal city... old bogotanos used to dressed like in London -due to the weather, pretty rainy like old London- and really appreciated and valued the English cloth and fabrics. My bogotano granddadd was a high-end taylor and was always elegant dressed even on sundays... maybe that´s the reason why "cachaco" is a way to called bogotanos, because they they wore shirts (CAmisa), vests (CHAleco) and ties (COrbata).
it's crazy that for foreigners think El Refugio it's cheap, even for 1% of the population that's just so expensive, unimaginable to have a 150m2+ home
In US Dollars everything is incredibly cheap in Colombia, because the Pesos are worth nothing. 2 very different perspectives
Well, well, it's bc the peso is basically worthless, at least compared to USD

I like this format style. Travel, cover food, and living in this video.

The only reason I am considering to go back are my aging parents. Once they are gone most likely I will be out of there. Colombia does not make sense from a safety, cost, nor tax point of view.
