St. Armand's Circle is one of the most beautiful and exciting areas on Sarasota. It has (had) wonderful restaurants and boutiques and is (was) the venue of art and other shows. It is the gateway to Lido and Lakewood Ranch, which are now at least partially isolated. This flooding is indeed catastrophic and is but one example of the damage caused by Helene.
Flood was not catastrophic calm down lol ya’all acting like we were decimated from face of the earth. Gotta remodel and back to business, many are open already especially restaurants or nearing reopening, plus all those business owners there knew the risks, they’re not stupid
Damn, 2 of my favorite restaurants and one of my favorite dessert places is here, alongside some excellent entertainment at Arcade Monsters. The Venezia and The Colombia are the two restaurants, Kilwins is the dessert place, all 3 of them are top notch food. I just got word that The Colombia WILL NOT be rebuilding or returning to St. Armand's Circle.
Insurance companies can't continue to handle this, this is not only Florida, GA, SC, NC, TN. Devastating! Ian did a HUGE # on us, Helene is going to worsen it.
Why do we pay these scamming insurance companies then? This is supposed to be the whole point of insurance. They make Billions of us in the disguise of protecting us but when it comes time to do what they are supposed to they cant?
@hideoussails1783 You are correct.. I live in FL and got hit via Ian...they don't cover flooding... you need a separate policy for that..However if your roof gets blow off and water gets in then they will cover that water damage inside the house
1:31 - Look at the highwater marks on the windows of this store. Although all the buildings look intact, every one of these businesses had feet of salt water inside for hours. Lots of trashed merchandise and equipment and furniture indoors, not to mention the wiring's wrecked and any drywall is no longer dry and will have to be replaced. Plus some of the floors. And this is just one small part of the total damage from Helene.
This is a very wealthy part of Sarasota county and the damage will be in the millions. That said, the cost will fall upon all the tax payers rich and poor. Something needs to change.
But we all know whose fault it is now. Many of us will be glad to spread the information too. Taxpayers are sick of freeloaders. So thanks for the tip.
@@Lee-fi4vo Please expand on your thought. Who is going to pay for the infrastructure damage if not the insurance coverage that city carries? And the cost of insuring the city will go up for next coverage period. So everyone will pay one way or another. Am I right?
I hate to see this damage in such a beautiful and iconic area. We vacation on Anna Maria island. Being at sea level on the beach or on a barrier island comes with an increasing cost in the era of climate change. It is becoming clear that insurance companies cannot continue to bear this cost. Very sad.
This is not new. I've lived in Sarasota for only three years and just in that short amount of time have seen St. Armand's Circle flood numerous times. There's no real solution as it is on a barrier island and it will flood again. If you invest in a business here, you have to accept that risk. I agree that we need to rethink about rebuilding in areas that will just flood again and cause all of our insurance rates and taxpayer costs to rise. It can't be sustained over time.

"Making wakes"? Surely you're joking. The water lines on the buildings show that the storm surge here reached 3 to 4 feet deep. Everything in this location was submerged to at least that depth.
