Officials always tell us to evacuate so that they don't have to risk the lives of first responders trying to save them but people still stay. If you have unique reasons that make evacuation more difficult you have to plan well in advance. Like at the beginning of each year. Many schools convert to shelters. Often there are shelters nearby. It doesn't always require a hotel stay. Our next door neighbors are both teachers. They always help manage the school shelter and stay through the storms.
These were towns that didn't have an evacuation order. People did evacuate in the area where they were told to do so. The problem is no one was expecting the flooding in these areas where there wasn't an evacuation order.

Just shut down the Gulf coast of Florida, the Atlantic coast of Florida doesn’t get as much hurricanes. Tampa Bay population is about to get smaller as people are going to flock to the Treasure Coast/Fort Pierce, Orlando and Jacksonville.

Rebuilding is foolish, those who do are again bidding their time. Florida should not allow building in low lying areas. Home insurance is unaffordable if you can get it at all. Same with auto insurance. Yes, I live there, but not near the coast.
Warm thanks to all responders 💙
What happened to the guy that was staying in his boat at Tampa? Did anyone check on him?
Yes turned out fine and still chillin
I think he turn out fine
I saw he was ok
He is good he said Helene was worse than Milton for him. He mentioned if another hurricane comes he will still stand his ground on that boat. A few RUclipsrs are gifting him a bigger boat and funds to help him. ❤❤❤

I live in Canada, just a block from a lakeside park and sometimes we get very high winds and rain being blown sideways, big trees swaying towards our apartment building, terrible thunder and lightning, power outages and it terrifies me. Can't imagine how frightening a hurricane would be. My thoughts are with all who are returning home to 'pick up the pieces' and who have lost loved ones to this devastating act of Mother Nature. May They All RIP 🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎
At what point do we stop rebuilding on barrier islands and allow natural habitat to return? The rebuilding process in these areas is expensive, destructive to the environment and wildlife, and wastes a vast amount of resources in terms of debris and new materials.
Hugs florida. Love from canada
They need to build better homes to minimize the constant rebuilding of homes.
unfortunately Fema / house insurance only rebuilds original floor plans not upgrades
It’s expensive
It's almost like you shouldn't build a home with twigs in an oceanside wetland
Prayers for everyone
It's really terrible. This is a very dense storm, hoping everyone stays safe.
As much as I love Florida I couldn't retire there....I cant keep running for my life every year Im getting older
Old or young I don’t want to live there
These areas are more populated than ever. Most of these communities used to be weekend houses and fishing camps 30 years ago.
Every home in fl should have a weather radio. We knew it was gonna be a huge storm, especially when you're on the back of it the rain. We lost power and had a couple of trees come down. RIP to the lost ones. Thank God it's over.
those men who save lifes and clean up this mess are the true heroes. i could never live in a area with this kind of storms. :(
Insurance rates are going to be even crazier. Those who opted to self-insure are going to be strained. Peoples properties are not going to be easy to sell if they want to ,who in the world would buy them ,down the road this will keep happening.
what insurance? home insurance against storms doesn't exist in florida.
People who live in florida, can you still get home insurance at a realistic price? I'm struggling to understand how it's still habitatable there
Not really. Many insurance companies are leaving the state. Maybe the state government will have to pick up the slack.
@staciasmith5162 interesting.. not sure government will have enough money though
@@Alex-yu4yi
Especially since it's a conservative state, since conservatives LOVE to reduce taxes and reduce government involvement in peoples lives (ignoring the smallest government possible to fit inside a woman's uterus of course).
Yeah, saw this yesterday, and I'm still befuddled; why was a CRANE allowed to stay up with an impending Cat 3/4 storm on the way?
Forcasters were announcing Milton's arrival and its crazy storm development at least a week and a half prior to landfall. Wouldn't the company realize, "Huh, yeah, we need to take this thing down, or it's gonna fall.".... ? 🤦🏾♀️
This caused entirely avoidable damage, not to mention being potentially injurious or deadly to someone! 😤
Very irresponsible and indifferent to life and property. 😠
I’m inland, in Polk county. 36 hours without power now and will need more gas for our generator if we don’t get restored today.
I’m in a residential historic area with some lines & big trees down. One of my good friends & neighbors has a big limb through her living room ceiling. Her family is all ok but I don’t think our electric grid is a priority one. No idea how long we’ll be out.
Thankful we are all safe! That’s what matters most. And I’m also thankful to all the linemen as I know they’re working hard!
Love from Melbourne, Australia ♥
My hearts and prayers go out to the hurricane victims! ❤ everyone donate!
Are americans allergic to concrete walls? they would rather rebuild their wooden houses 4 times than have a solid house in a storm prone area?
I guess it's more expensive than wood!
@@rm_alfaro but rebuilding multiple times is probably the same cost and more headache
@@jm8080ful I know! I'm also wondering why Americans prefer wooden materials for their houses when wood obviously can't withstand strong hurricanes & tornadoes!
They need to evaluate the build standards of these homes in Florida. It should be required to use cement blocks and steel. Not wood and sheet rock

Thank God it wasn't that bad with the hurricane, now it's time for America to focus on America.
Earlier today I thought that the damage was far less than it was. I guess I was just so focused on Tampa, where my grandson lives, that I wasn't looking very far and wide. Also, the reports that Milton lost quite a bit of power once onshore.
The storm didn't even hit Tampa.
@jamesm568 I was watching as it jogged its way south. Tampa got pretty strong wind and rain, but being on the northern side, was much less affected than the center and southern side. I really feel for those affected 😔. Especially the people that were cleaning up from Helene already.
Don’t understanding why you still want to live there if you had to rebuild 4x… I guess if you have money, rebuilding is not an issue. When you have no money, why do you continue to stay?
Because every other person that lives elsewhere in other states have to keep subsidizing their selfish behavior. Now insurance companies are leaving Florida.
One of the issues is we're going to pay to rebuild them and then they're going to build in the same place and then we're going to have to pay for them to rebuild again
Them?
@stein1385 I'm just referring to people that continue to build homes in high risk flood areas. Are taxpayer money pays for that insurance not them or the insurance companies. It's been subsidized by the government look into it
Like we do with Israel??

@@disgoyknows88The person lobbying for aid to Israel is Speaker Mike Johnson. On the news saying the victims of the hurricanes can wait until after the first week of November. people is still refused to believe in Global Warming
If you stay through a hurricane, you'll do it only once
Refusing is a big word.. i mean.. i saw the clogged street and the videos of closed down gastations because they were out of gas.
... maybe not provoke as much .. because many would have wanted to go. But being trapped in ur vehicle may not be as attractive as u think it is.
Not everyone can leave. If you have the money to travel, the gas stations might be out of gas. Then the traffic so bad, you might as well take cover in your own house. Then there are the disabled and those with many animals. It’s hard for a lot of the most vulnerable people to leave on such short notice. Don’t be so quick to judge.

Stop building timber homes on the coasts...
(Edit: I've been a Floridian my whole life)
And building their foundation on SAND. 🤔
Why didn’t ppl evacuate and then needed to be saved later? Annoying.
No extra cash for travel/lodging, not able to move well physically, etc. many reasons.
Did you watch the whole video!

What do you expect living on the coast? I've been living in Florida 4 years even I'm aware of hurricane season. The fact that people still decide to live on the coast is beyond me. I don't feel bad because they choose to live there knowing we get 3-4 months of hurricanes coming our way. They gonna rebuild and go thru the same thing next year
Why is Trump telling people that if they accept FEMA assistance the government will take their land?
Because his zealots believe everything he says, and he doesn’t want Biden to be the one who rescues them and be the hero.

It would be stupid to rebuild but they will, and whats dumber is that our money is whats going to do it. Fema money sure but not to rebuild in Hurricane land.
