This was the most realistic example of a mechanics struggle on this shit bolt!! Love it!!
Thanks bro! Gotta keep it real 100%
Ye, he shows the real struggle customers don't see that others like to edit out of their videos
This will be me on an 05 Acura TL next week...timing belt time!
Been there bro. 100%
Just had 3 mechanics either deny or give up on this job.... fuck
Nice job getting it to break free. I will use a 1/2" Milwaukee Fuel impact with the Lisle Honda crank socket, makes easy work of them.
Big Dog50001 Automotive I used a generic lisle 19mm crank bolt socket from amazon and the big dog Kobalt 24v impact with 650 ft lbs. it did not break away on the first pull of the trigger. But the second pull was like money. Zip zip off she came. I was so excited. You would think I was having a kid or something. It was a good day. Haha.
big dog sounds like a milwaukee shill
Didn’t work for me.
Isnt working for me atm, not sure if im doing something wrong or if my impact gun isnt strong enough. I have a Ryobi i bought used off FB marketplace and i have the Lisle 77060 socket, and the thing will not budge.
@@MavenFade Dude you need 1/2 inch Mil. or Dewalt. 199@ home depot
You're one hardworking mechanic with humor. Bless you man.
I too ran into the "infamous" super-hyper-tight crankshaft bolt on an Acura integra, never did get it off.
Has anyone tried a Torque multipler? There are torque multipliers on the market that can output 4275 ft lbs.....truckers use them all the time to take off stuck lugnuts on tires, with little effort.
Look up torque multipliers on RUclips and you'll find them boys remove high torque, over tightened, rusted up, stuck lugnuts with minimal effort.
I had to do my Wifes 2007 Accord. Broke an extension, finally tried the bump start trick. Worked like a charm.
Good stuff
Most realistic "day in the life" vid of how it is to be a mechanic/fixing things. Congrats on getting it loose. It's funny, I was just saying to myself, "get a jack stand" and then you did. Well done!
Just wanted to let you know that your video helped us get our crank bolt out. We did exactly what you did. Thank you.
Brother you deserve two thumbs up. A great example of adapt and overcome.
This looks identical to the set up I used when I did my 90 crx timing belt. We ended up splitting my 19mm socket wide open. I feel you man!
Thank you so much for your video. You saved my day. I am working on my wifes honda pilot. I went out and bought the special socket and the crank shaft holding tool. My impacts wouldn't do it so I spent 300 on a high torque battery powered one and still could not get it off. I used your jack stand extension and cheater bar method. Bam it broke loose. You are the best! Thanks!
Man, I've watched several videos on how to remove one of these bolts and tried everything to no avail. So thank you for this video.
I feel your pain. I used to have to do this years ago myself. Now, with my Milwaukee 2767 and the Lisle weighted socket Honda crankshaft bolts have no other choice but to listen to me. I am now the boss, not the bolt. Plus, looking back, this was a great way to get hurt and no bolt is worth that. The good news is that the new Milwaukee 2967 hits even harder than the impact that I have.
I really appreciate this video man! I was borrowing all kinds impacts and shit wouldn’t come off. You reminded me that all you need sometimes is just ingenuity and muscle grease. Bolt is off now! Was also laughing my ass off at your struggles cause I felt your pain😂 great video bro!
I use a 1 inch impact on those. You also get a little bit of flex in the extension. Another way you can do it is by heating the washer up a little bit.
I appreciate the enthusiasm in this video. However I found that using a 1" impact took the bolt right off without having to hold the outer ring. I then took a spanner wrench and adjusted the harmonic balancer back to TDC. I know a lot of people don't have a 1" impact but it is definitely a time saver on this job.
I just a DIYer but before I bought that Honda socket by Lisle I used a setup similar to the one in the video to remove Honda crank bolts. There were minor differences in the way I set mine up but it worked just the same. Although I now have the special Honda socket to remove the crank bolt, I still use the old setup for install torque.
One of the reasons that Eric the Car Guy had an easier time removing crank bolt is that he did not have a breaker bar on the Honda tool. He has a heavy pipe on his. Breaker bars are like a heavy spring and they flex so you don't break bolts as easily. So, if you use an impact gun with a breaker bar it absorbs the force of the impact gun. When you use two breaker bars at the same time you are putting half the torque on bolt with twice the effort.
Also a weighted socket helps
I'm usually good at these, got stuck on one today. The jack stand was an awesome idea, got mine to bust loose. Thanks man.
Thanks for the vid. After attempting a couple hours with multiple impacts. We switched gears to this set up after buying the extension and it worked like a charm.
Man you made that look easy! ; )# I could feel the frustration thru the camera. You made it entertaining to watch also.
+The Disgruntled Mechanic haha easy but not easy lol. I can agree it was entertaining as well 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I definitely needed this video lol im changing out my balancer and my car is still on the stand right now! i changed my alternator thinking shit was sweet. Until it wasn't. but love this authentic video. you a real one
I had a Rover 827 (aka a Sterling across the pond). That ran a C27A engine, had exactly the same problem with the pulley bolt. It defeated two good quality air impact guns and I couldn't bump the starter as it had lunched its timing belt. My last resort was my 12v Liftmaster wheelgun I keep in the car for the wife to use if she gets a puncture, £70GBP from Amazon. It got it first go. I couldn't believe it. They work in a bit of an odd way because the motor spins up inside the gun before engaging drive then it engages and whacks the bolt. A good addition to the toolbox for DIY'ers for sure.
Where do you pick up the 12 V impact gun from thank you
@@leonardtrump9155 hi, I've had a look through Amazon and eBay for you and can't find the exact brand and model BUT I've found one that looks externally identical but without the digital torque readout and Torque programming setting on it.
Here is the link: smile.amazon.co.uk/Clarke-CIR13C-Impact-Wrench-Kit/dp/B07MW7JMCT/ref=mp_s_a_1_25?dchild=1&keywords=12v+impact+gun&qid=1586853963&sr=8-25
In long term use of this tool I've found that they have one minor weak spot, there is a MosFet on the PCB and due to vibration in ordinary use it breaks it's legs occasionally and the gun stops functioning. An easy fix with a dab of solder and you're on your way again. Also, when using this tool, use the included battery terminal to cigar lighter adapter to plug it in as your car's internal wiring/fuses may not appreciate being stressed out trying to run this tool.
Remember that these guns DO NOT work like conventional impact guns, when you pull the trigger the internal motor first spins up to speed (so you need to keep holding the trigger down) then when it has achieved it's desired speed, it flicks out an internal clutch to engage the drive to the socket on your wheel nut/lugnut/bloody big stuck nut. This "BANGS" through your stuck nut/bolt and creates the impact needed to undo it.
Hope this helps and good luck.
not even 30 seconds in... HELL YEAH!!! I DIG THIS DUDE! Well, on with the video!
😂😂😂😂
Wow patients. Using force with force, good job.
I just used the same Nitrocat 1250K that you said didn't work to zip off my 2006 acura tl crank bolt yesterday like butter. I also used a Lisle 19mm crank socket(thicker) instead of a regular socket. I just have a 33 gal compressor at home and cranked up the tool regulator to about 140 psi and the aircat gun cracked open the crank bolt with about 4-5 bursts of the trigger.
You work like I did when I was a hgv fitter.well thought out it’s all about getting your angles right to get the max torque. You made it enjoyable to watch. Good luck to you .
This is a 2003 Honda CRV and this damn bolt is killin me brother!!!!!!!!! I watch you because I love the heck outta your vids! You are a damn good mechanic and worth watching 😊but I’m 😢
Took me less then a half hour to take off the power steering pump, belt, upper timing covers, wiring harness going to passenger side, the mount, but this bolts been kicking my ass. I like the Jack stand method that’s a good way to prevent coming off/slipping plus it applies more torque when your straight. Good job
Unreal. I'm in this exact situation right now. Just sheared the end off my 1/2" extension bar. Not sure I'll ever get it off. Edit: replaced it with an impact bar and used your jackstand technique and finally got it. Whew. Three hours of my life I won't get back though.
hi mate you can get a special socket for them Honda's that go onto your gun they are a lot thicker and heavier than the normal sockets the weight and the harmonic balance of the socket will undo the bolts a lot easier
Unfortunately that tool doesn't exist in our shop so I had to make due with what we had........I may purchase one for myself in the future so I won't go through this again smh.
Leekautorepair been there done that I know your pain that's why I just brought the socket no more pain for me lol
bodgit and leggit garage im waiting on socket cause im tired of breaking extensions and adapters lol
You still need an impact gun putting out > 600 ft-lbs torque even with that socket. It helps but it won't make a little 18V impact suddenly a crusher. I know because I tried.
Love this Guy!! Appreciate the cursing!! That's a bolt that needs a good cussing!!
Old video but a good one! Sometimes when I am really pulling on a cheater bar like that I'll give the pipe a few good whacks with my mini sledge, that often does the trick.
You will get more torque if you reposition the snap on breaker bar in line with the Honda pulley holding tool. There is some loss of torque since the tool socket is at a 90 degree position. (Instead of it being angled like this _| it should be straight like this / )
Use the starter as the power, worked for me!!
"Alright, I'mma raise the car right now"
Engine falls out.
Bro this is the best video I ever watched since I found your channel 👍 !!! You can have the pass to curse with that super hard work 😓 ...u rock 👊!
hi I just wanted to help by saying that lisle makes a power socket as well as ingersoll rand in different sizes for this application. lisle and ir have a special 19mm impact socket for about 20 bucks that you use with your air impact wrench and it removes it with in seconds
Damn, I was expecting you to bust out atleast with the Running Man or the Cabbage Patch......Good job bro.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I should’ve
I took it off with a 1/2 breaker 19 socket and the pulley holder tool on another breaker. I put tension on the socket and hit the bar with a dead blow plastic hammer to simulate the sudden impact from an engine crank.
Not a fan of all the cussing, but after I had to do this same thing to my car today... I get it! I was quite frustrated. That smile on your face @ 9:41 is exactly how I felt when done. Best part of my day. Unfortunately, that was only the beginning of the project.
What job u got on it?
@@Leekautorepair I replaced the timing chain. Crazy thing is that once the bolt was broke free, the rest of the job seemed easy! just took a little time.
It be the smallest things that makes the job complicated. Good shit tho!
@@Leekautorepair Ya.. It was that one bolt that made it crazy. But it was a good job overall. Glad you posted your video. Made realize that breaking that bolt free was possible!
No problem bro thanks for watching

9:08 , I cursed, thinking your expensive snap-on ratchet broke! I feel for you bro, well done with the improvising.
5:01, "give it a try" you sound like Dave Chapelle, LOL. Peace.
Hahaha! Thanks for taking the time to watch my vids
Wilee Coyote great quote. I like it. I grew up with my dad saying “leverage is your friend.”
The struggle and the triumph haha I loved this video
Honest mechanic. Fuck that crank bolt. We’re not fuckin around.
Just put a jacket and on the end of the wrench lower the front of the car and the weight of the vehicle does the work.
I've been working on mine for 2 days and I've been wanting to do exactly what you said, I'm surprised this is the first I've heard of anyone Else saying that and I've been watching a bunch of videos and reading all the comments to find a solution😅 This bolt is coming out tomorrow😎
Bro! You got me cracking up here. Like! How the hell are you getting attacked by mosquitoes in broad daylight. And how did you managed to manifest a can of mosquito spray out of nowhere 🤣😂
I couldn't even change it because I was laughing the whole time lol, i even almost forgot about the bolt for a minute!
I struggled with the different methods like the starter bump trick and the breaker bar with a long pipe, nothing worked. I did some research and found out that getting a Milwaukee cordless impact with 1400 lbs of pressure will break it loose with ease.
Lol! I love your vids because you capture the raw uncut fuckery that us techs go through on the daily.
Think twice kids. Haha
Thats a nightmere! good job!
I fight mosquitoes like crazy when I am gardening. You may want to try Cutters instead. I don't know why, but it works way better that Off does.
Heat is your friend. Get a blow torch and give the bolt a bit of heat. I can't think how many times this has helped me out. Eg exhaust nuts, etc. Otherwise you will break your tools. Also seen those thicker sockets for Hondas.
that idea was my last resort but next I will try. Thanks watching brother!
Good job. Did a real good job with camera. Great technical and music. My taste is for less profanity but ok... cause you in fight with car and you kicked azz. Nice vid.
I tried everything for my 2005 civic with a 1.7l in it.
So I'm just bought a 19mm harmonic dampened socket and shelling out for an impact gun with 1200ftlb of torque. Hopefully it works
I'm working on my Civic SI and I have a Bauer impact gun that was tested on a RUclips channel that's dedicated to impact guns. It produced almost 600 lb, and I took off the bolt for my 1.7 Civic I used to have, also took off the crank bolt for my prelude. But this k series bolt will not budge at all.
I thought I had my air gun turned up high, I cranked it up to 100 psi and it still sucked. Ok I made an inline air gauge with one end in the air line and one end in the gun. I pulled the trigger and got 75 psi LOL . My air line was too long and I was using a 3/8 hose. I had to crank my pressure up to 140 to get 90 psi at the gun while running the gun. I was only looking at the static pressure at the hose end. Not sure if this applies but worth a check.
Just watched this after failing to take a crank bolt off today 2020 still a pain to get that off.
Lisle 77080 is the part number for the socket. like around $25
Eric the car guy uses 2 breakers,ur thinking of south main auto guy who zips it off no problem
I was pushing without you at same time 😂😂😂😂
Wish me luck. I’ll be doing the timing belt on my Acura TL.
You’re one of the coolest! Love ya man! Subd
If you position yourself correctly, you can stand on top of that breaker bar or long jack bar, put some force on it by hoping up/down pressuring it down, and it’ll break loose. 9/10 it works for me. Again, I don’t recommend it, but that was an old school trick that I learned back in the day. Now days, we just shoot it with an impact and it comes off like butter! Haha
Great idea with the jack stand
The struggle was very real...I feel you good video B +
9:36 the face of victory lol good shit man
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was about to do a timing belt job on my 2002 honda accord 2.3l, and I got stuck at the bolt. that stupid bolt bent my extension out of shape, and I gave up. I need better quality tools. I'll get a really long 1/2" drive ratchet without a flex head like you got. I have a steel pipe, but I think I'll need a longer one. the cheater bar for my floor jack seems like alluminum, so I wouldn't want to use that, probably.
That smile when you zipped that bolt off. Ya, i felt that. Had to do mine last year. Broke 2 3' 1/2" breaker bars, 2 sockets, 1 ratchet and my mother in law on that god forsaken bolt. Theres a special place in hell where murders and child molester are working on the bolt for an eternity.
“Long Ass Fuckin Ratchet”
Man I love this guy
leek it is not the compressor or the impact it is the socket you need to use the special made socket for this removel lisle sells it as well as other companies
U right. I actually bought the socket earlier this year. It’s a beast
That was a great idea I'm going through the same shit right now I appreciate the video
good job bro swear more ,makes it easier
Think high mass lisle socket and lube and short bursts, mallet and breaker bar or air wrench..I see people with 4 extensions ,breaker bar and cheater bar, risking flex and twist and stripping steel on this monster yes,you need the lisle socket and short distance between it

I followed your steps and heated bolt with heat gun for 30 seconds and bolt came out in 1 min. Thanks.
For the Honda's vhb engine channel has a great short video and he has a great special tool for that
Bro I know this video is old but I have an impact gun that is rated for 500 pounds and it still won't come off. On my way to the parts store right now to buy a socket that has more weight to it hopefully it helps
Theres a special socket just for this. Goes on your gun. Works every time.
I did the same and now my pulley is broken and I am thinking how to remove it as it is not possible to use the part to lock the pulley!!!
I had the same problem. I used a my Ingersoll Rand thnder cat and it took that thing off like butter.
Lisle 77080 19mm harmonic balancer socket and a map gas torch. You’re welcome.
damn i feel you bro, i do 1 week to remove the bolt, i do anything and i still can't remove that crazy pulley bolt , really happy if u have any tips for me
Bro just get that special socket they made for this job. Comes off with less effort
@@Leekautorepair thank bro, do u have link for the special tools pictures
You invest in a 1/2" High torque Milwaukee with a 5 amp battery and a nice fan and mosquito zapper
haha...i bought a 1 inch gun just for Honda crank bolts...i have broken that stupid crank pully holder tool as well. ....since then i just pull out big bertha... ( 1 inch gun).....ohh yeah good times!
Put breaker bar snug up against the control arm, unplug spark plugs, bump the key to turn the engine. That will break it loose.
Yikes! But, honestly, this wasn't so bad. Imagine two guys with about your body build press the breaker bar with all their weight. We broke two extensions and had to get an impact extension to get this loose on my 2008 MDX.
I wish it was that easy to break the crank pulley bolt loose on mine , I broke 3 High impact 19mm sockets , 3 impact extensions and sent a impact gun to heaven trying to get that bolt to break loose , oh and I bent a breaker bar in a "U" shape trying to bump start it off and that effin bolt won't break loose still lol
Were you ever able to get it? My 2004 Honda Accord is in the shop and they have been trying for THREE DAYS to get the crank bolt off to no avail. Said they’ve never seen anything like it
Dude this made my day. You gave me some good laughs when I needed it. Completely totaled my 07 type s Three days ago due to someone’s road rage.
Question though, could you bump remove it?
Lisle heavy weighted 19mm socket
Not sure the torq wrench is the right tool to loosen a tough bolt a half inch breaker bar might be the suitable tool with a extension or a air impact wrench
Bro if you closely you will see that I used a half 1/2 ratcheting breaker bar with extension. And I did say none of the impact guns is not strong enough
I went and got me a pulley from O reilleys and the middle of the pulley is smooth and includes a note saying there is a change without the spline because it is not needed because there is not crankshaft. Can you tell when you got the balancer off if it even matters if it smoother and a little smaller the note says it is better designed
It's my day off and about to be back at messing with that damn bolt🙁
One thing you could have done that would have made your time shorter... Since your using a lift, you should have raised it and used a deep socket without extension to break it loose. Most of the force you were applying to the socket was being used to twist the extension and head of your flex head ratchet. I bet I would have broken free the first time with no extension at least
Good work
Is hammering the breaker bar with a hard mallet a bad idea?
You are lucky you don't work on a F40.
Heck, my daughter and I are hung up off the ground for 3 minutes just to break loose the Crankshaft's Bolt.
The wheel torque bolts on the F40 are over 576Nm!
But at least you have one of the most beautiful supercars ever made in my opinion. How stiff is the clutch in one of those by the way?
Why the hell dont you use the starter motor or engine to crack the bolt off ? Landcruisers are the same and the engines turn clockwise your crsnkshaft bolt turns antiockwise , you brace the socket on a power bar lodge the power bar crank the engine and the crankshaft bolt is off in seconds , even this guy doing this video after the year 2000 honda engines turn clockwise he could have done that on this car !! Are you all idiots in this world ?
Erik Truchinskas F40 is a fucking truck not a supercar and he has made a mistake on it supposed to say F-450 , does not surprise me this worlds full of stupid idiots
@@eriktruchinskas3747 They can be make to adjust to driver liking.
@@iamasmurf1122 Sounds like you have never seen a Ferrari F40 in person.

love be down to the ground, nothing fake. thanks for the help.
Really appreciate your video bro!! I was losing my fu$king mind!! Doing the exact same work on my own Honda.
U need a 3/4 " impact gun for that bolt
They make an inertia socket that will zip off that bolt with 1/2" impact in seconds.
Its might be the impact im using, considering its a used Ryobi, but no luck for me so far with the special socket and battery powered impact.
