I wonder if it's a reflection of the writers' inner world. I assume you have to have hope for the future in order to write characters who have such, too. Very sad to see the direction in which the current Disney princesses are headed :')
@@duskytalkz Honestly, I assume that's the case. Bitter writers projecting their suffering onto beloved characters and transforming them into caricatures under the guise of "agency." As a result, everyone even girls suffer because of the lack of good female representation.
Cinderella was a victim of abuse. That’s why she’s so inspirational in never losing hope and to be kind despite how the world treats you. She wasn’t useless or helpless, she was at her most vulnerable which people empathize with. And because she remained kind, she was rewarded in the end. You know what they say, “the best revenge you can get, is to live your best life.” And that’s what Cinderella did after finally escaping her abusive step family.
@@ashebennett7726 Yeah absolutely I agree, very well put. What we were sorta discussing with jamesandrews5629 is that if Cinderella was written today she probably wouldn't act like that because I don't feel the writers would've understood her. If they themselves feel bitter about the world, they might not be able to understand why Cinderella feels hopeful after all that suffering. We're just lucky we got her written 9ish years ago and we now have a live action in which her character is done justice cuz if she was written today I doubt she'd be hopeful or kind :dd
@@duskytalkz exactly. That’s what I’m saying. They don’t understand true strength, kindness, compassion, empathy, love, etc. because it’s all about preaching their agenda rather than simple story telling and basic morals. Truly a sad, bitter world we live in. Nowadays, the only way to be strong is to dominate everyone and everything around you instead of showing true potential through hardships and overcoming obstacles. Give me the classics any day. And yeah, the live action Cinderella was decent. I have my complaints, but other than that, it’s not bad. At least it’s not preachy and sticks with the “have courage, and be kind” morals that the original Cinderella teaches.
My problem with modern feminists judging Cinderella for not fleeing her terrible family don’t seem to understand that they are judging her with modern values. Unfortunately, these values wouldn’t sit with the setting of Cinderella. Ok, she flees her family, where would she go, particularly if she have no known living relatives? Her fate on the streets is worse than death so she stays and endures but when she sees an opportunity to do something, she grabs it. Modern values wouldn’t sync with fairy tales so I hope these feminists and Rachel Zegler should keep their views to themselves.
I absolutely agree. I wonder if Cinderella's critics were more interested in history would they stop judging her so harshly. In order to understand a group of people and their beliefs and fairytales you need to know the context in which said people lived. And to be fair I'd argue Cinderella's issues are prevalent today too. Since I don't live in the western world idk do people there have better safety routes but from what I've seen here it's still pretty difficult to escape from such a domestic situation (especially in the case of Cinderella where she's an orphan and for a huge part of her mistreatment she was a kid) As you're saying, she had to wait for an opportunity to escape, someone to help her, what else was she supposed to do :ddd And people like Rachel are young (well I'm around her age but still, I suppose we're sorta young, we definitely have room to learn and improve) and so I do hope with time she and people who think like her allow for more compassion in their hearts, it helps a lot when trying to understand the world.
You don't need to have modern values to see that Cinderella has been emotionally and physically abused by her family all of her life. People could relate to Frodo in the Lord of the Rings because he goes through hardship that's relatable. Cinderella's experiences are relatable in a sense that people know or have experienced emotional trauma. Yet Cinderella endures through love and kindness. I feel that feminists today undervalue empathy and don't understand how people go through hardship.
@@duskytalkzSometimes women in the modern world do that too when their problems are too much. They go with the first person they are genuinely in love with to escape their horrible families.
@@FilmmakeroftheFutureyeah absolutely :dd iii know :') that's why I think people who bash Cinderella might not realize they're bashing real people n it'd be nice if they approached her character with more compassion cuz they can't hurt a fictional character but they can definitely accidentally hurt someone irl
Honestly there is more strength in cinderella than the modern feminist ideology. Cinderella didn't let her cruel treatment change her into a bitter person. Her kindness made people (and mice) want to help. Disney princesses teach values that are lost nowadays that everyone needs but are often ignored.
I love this video and I'm glad someone has brought it up. I hate it when people are called "doormats" or considered less worthy when they are unable to escape an abusive relationship for one reason or another. I hate it when leadership is confused with being rude and demanding. Being a leader, a *true* leader, requires empathy, kindness, understanding, and care for the people you lead. Modern leadership feels more like dictatorship. A leader is someone who will hold you when you're upset and scared; a "leader" is someone who would snap in your face for crying. A leader will help you come up with solutions, or if you prefer, just stay and listen to your struggles; a "leader" will tell you to suck it up. A leader is kind; a "leader" is cruel.
Thank you so much for this comment, genuinely made my day :') I'm so happy my words resonated with you, the leader thing should be talked about more :dd it really saddens me when people consider it as a cool perk rather than the responsible and selfless position that it is. Once again thank you so much for the comment :')
You don't even need historical context, this type of thing still happens nowadays, it's unfortunate but it's true. Cinderella is the story of a girl who was emotionally and physically abused by her family (the scene where they tear her dress embodies both types of abuse imo) but who endured it all with the help of the friends she acquired through her kindness. The dark truth is that even nowadays many people can't just leave the horrible situations they live in, all they can do is endure and maintain hope for a better future and seek help wherever they can. They shouldn't have to go through that but many people don't have a choice, and shouldn't their story be told too? Isn't their strength to keep their kindness and hope in the face of overwhelming terror something to be recognized? Not even the supposed children's movie based on a fairytale dared to simplify the issue to just "oh why don't you just get up and leave this terrible situation you live in?" cause it's never that simple, so I don't know why people nowadays feel they have the right to look down on that movie when they treat this issue with such carelessness. Now one movie that benefits from a historical context is Snow White, not in the sense of it being in medieval times but when the movie was made that being the World Wars and the Great Depression. The channel There Will Be Fudd made a great video about that, Snow White was the type of heroine America needed at that moment, a girl who was left with nothing and almost lost her life but maintained her positivity and found a new home for herself through sheer hardwork. This is why it makes me so angry that in this remake Snow White seemingly forces the dwarves to clean their own home, in the original she says explicitly that she wants to clean their house in the hopes of them letting her stay there, she knows she has nothing else to offer them in exchange for shelter and she doesn't expect them to let her stay just because, she wants to work for everything she gets, now look me in the eyes and tell me that *isn't* admirable. I hope the remake isn't as bad as it seems, I hope she still cleans their home and the dwarves only help in the place of the animals (which is still bad but not as bad as she ordering them around while sitting comfortably in a little chair), cause otherwise i'm just left wondering what she brings to the table, why do the dwarves let her stay in this version? Did they just become a bunch of simps?
Not only that, but marriage is even nowadays a way out in situations like this. And imagine, it's a prince that thinks she is the most beautiful thing he's ever seen and a father-in-law that can't wait for her to become his daughter-in-law after living with those abusive step sisters and step mother for years that can see a dime of value in her? Why wouldn't she accept it? People constantly argue that love wasn't Cinderella's goal, but I argue that deep inside, yes it was. She wanted to be loved and admired.
@@somekindofflower2024 In the historical context, Cinderella couldn't leave because there were hardly decent jobs for women to earn their bread by. Also, a girl couldn't live alone, she had to be sheltered by a family or protected by a man or she became free game. Nowadays, a girl can live single and make her own living. That's what people who criticize Cinderella often don't get: they judge her by today's standards.
Why would Snow White force the dwarfs to clean their own house? In the animated one, she did it with the animals to surprise them. She was so kind! And in this shitty version, she talks to them as if they were less worthy. She is sharp in tone and treats them like slaves. Is this naugthy princess supposed to be "the fairest one of all"?! Don't make me laugh! 😡💔💢
Simple this isn’t Snow White in any conceivable level snow White was good and pure and kind and caring and she did that cleaning for two reasons one she thought there was orphan kids in that house and they needed a mom and two. She was a good person, and she thought that if she did that they would give her a place to stay in exchange which they did and even act related that she still kept up her bargain because if I recall correctly, what she said was if you let me stay I’ll keep house for you a wash and so and sweep and cook and she did all those things Because she is a good person this is not Snow White all of these princesses and I mean all of the classic ones is disgusting. They don’t act like we never had princesses that were strong. Jasmine was really strong so was Bell and so was Mulan, but they never shied away from love they never shot away from goodness or kindness and none of them were perfect. That’s another thing I can’t stand. They’re trying to make these girls, insane.
@@timbuktu8069 Right, what casting director had the brilliant idea to cast Gal Gadot as the evil queen and Rachel Zegler as Snow White? how are we supposed to believe the queen is jealous of Snow White's looks in this version?
Something I’ve always liked about Disney’s Cinderella is how she helps the mice. Everyone else looks down on them as nothing but vermin. It would have been very easy for her to do so as well and simply let the cat have them but she doesn’t, she saves them from the traps, gives them names and even goes through the trouble of making them clothes and in return they do everything they can to help her achieve happiness, wether it’s just a fun night out or a whole marriage on the line, and sure, the dress they helped her complete might have been destroyed and it might have been the fairy godmother who magiced up a new dress and a carriage but it was still the mice who pulled to the ball, and let’s not forget, Cinderella wouldn’t even have married the princess had the mice not gotten her out of her room after Lady Tremaine locked her in. Honestly, I think a lot of adults could benefit from this lesson on the importance of kindness, a lot of children seem to understand it better than some adults
Very true observations I agree with you. Irl too, I'm always impressed by people who take care of small critters, there's just something so lovely in helping those little outcasts of society and it does speak of the empathy of the person, truly something we can all learn from.
I remember not liking the Cinderella remake and haven't rewatched it since it released in theaters. Have a few reasons, the repeat of 'have courage be kind' felt like the movie was preaching at me and hated it and I Did feel Cinderella was too passive. But not in a 'she could save herself if she only tried' kinda way but more of a she gave up immediately without trying way. When animated Cinderella was locked in the attic she Tried to open the door and burst into tears of frustration and despair. When live action was locked up, yes she'd had that previous confrontation but afterwards she just danced and sang to herself. It didn't Feel like something bad had happened to her, it felt like an undeserved time out so the scene felt hollow to me. And it would've been so easy to fix! Instead of dancing with a vacant smile because she's already internally given up, have her Be sad and trying to purposefully cheer herself up with a song and Fail the first few times before mustering up some inner resolve. I agree that Cinderella is a DA victim in Both versions. Real DA victims usually have bad coping mechanisms because they're made to survive the abuse. But films aren't meant to show reality. Films are meant to evoke emotions. Animated Cinderella at her lowest point I felt so bad for her watching her struggle to come to grips that her possible escape from that house was snatched away and her room, probably her safe haven, was now her prison. It's a hearwrenching scene. The live action...it's hallow. She's supposedly eternally trapped in that house and can no longer be with her love to protect him but I do Not feel the weight of that scene. It's too sanitized so I don't feel for her and THAT is why I did not like the remake. The costuming for the movie was gorgeous, I liked how they tried to flesh out the characters (and reduced the screen time of the animals. Loved Jaq and Gus but they didn't need That many scenes lol). What they tried to do I was all for! But at the climax of the film I felt nothing for Cinderella because they replaced her characterization with that stupid preachy line and took what little agency she clung to away. Sorry for being so ranty but I honestly believe the Cinderella live action remake wasn't as good as the animated one because of the titular character. The live action remakes have Never been good but I will admit they used to actually try and could even be watched for the new ideas. But even Cinderella felt a little soulless. She didn't need to be a 'girlboss' or save herself 😖 but she Did need to be an actual character and not the embodiment of a preached line.
I agree that repeating that line becomes a bit cringy 😂I must admit, as someone who grew up with the original fairytales I've always been cutting Disney slack. For me the animated Ariel will never be as good as the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, I'll always find the full story of Aladin more entertaining than the Disney adaptation etc. However I recognize their societal importance and I think because I know of my bias I just don't hold Disney to such a high standard. Therefore I enjoyed the live action Cinderella perfectly fine, plus I tend to be very emotional 😂 I've cried every single time I've watched it tho idk does that mean much :dd For me the issues become blatant when we start bashing certain characters or when we start pushing division between people, that's usually when I can't help but speak up. As for films and reality, I gotta say I enjoy movies that show reality, painted in a hopeful way but still realistically sad to an extent, that's what evokes emotions in me but that's definitely a personal preference and you can absolutely want it to be handled better. I do like your suggested fix of her being sad and wanting to cheer herslef up with a song, they could've gone with that, it would've improved the scene. But yeah overall I definitely understand your issue with that one line 😂, I think it could've been wholesome if it was used once or twice but they overdid it, maybe they were doubting we get the message no idea but in hindsight compared to 😂 everything we've gotten in recent years it seems like a minor issue in my mind. And lastly please don't feel bad about ranting, I myself am a lengthy speaker and I really enjoy talking with people who also talk in length, it's always fun and productive, so thank you so much for this comment, really appreciate it ^-^
@@duskytalkz All good then! But well I bring up the animated ver Because that's what Disney is directly basing they're live actions off of. They aren't going back to the source material but trying to 'improve' their older animated works because they supposedly have X issue. And at the heart of this is they get X issue wrong. Are the old movies 'masterpieces that should not be touched' hell no! But the original animated Disney films are usually criticized (and wrongfully in my opinion) that they don't have 'modern values' and the remakes attempt to address those critiques (well deserved or not) and usually makes the previous criticism true or worsens it 😅. Cinderella was criticized as a passive person who waits to be rescued...but that is true of the Remake Cindy not Animated. Animated Cindy has some snarky remarks out of ear shot of her 'family' and when locked in the attic she tries to get out, breaks down in tears. Then sees her mice friends bringing her the key get in trouble from the cat and instructs the birds to get the dog. Hell Tremaine breaks the glass slipper in the Dukes possession and Cinderella pulls out its pair. She's active nearly the entire time but because she wasn't physically fighting it 'didn't count'. And in the Remake what does she do? Dance and sing in the attic till she's rescued, they brought the criticism to life. Ariel supposedly gave up her voice for a man. In fact the Animated mermaid Always wanted to go to the surface, gained a crush and her Father Terrorized her by smashing her stuff sending her into the sea witches grasp at her most vulnerable. Ursula made it about the boy. The remake made things iffy as instead of Ariel pursuing and trying purposefully fulfill her end of the 'deal' Remake Ariel has her memory tampered with making Ariel passive about her situation and bringing up issues of consent into the mix. I'm not even gonna start with Mulan, they butchered that one So badly 🥲 With Snow White I don't even think they watched the first animated film they were basing this remake off of? It's criticized for its 'love story'. But the actual 'love story' for animated Snow White was a meet cute at the beginning of the movie, singing about the prince at either the Dwarves request or to lift her spirits and the Prince finding her dead at the end, kissing her goodbye and her waking up and being rewarded for surviving the horrors she's been through. Hell how many movies end with the guy getting the girl? But heaven forbid a princess gets herself a prince! It's a sub-sub-subplot at best to bookend the story! The main plot of the animated film is that a young teen is abused, flees in terror when her abuser now wants her dead. She then uses her kindness and cleaning skills to secure herself shelter before having the abuser still come after her and use her kindness against her to kill her. That she gets to wake up and leave it all behind is, again, a reward for getting through all of that. Where in there does commanding and being a ruler fit in? The animated ver has Lots of problem they could have addressed (sparse story, too many comedy sequences that go for too long, a lackluster story structure ect) but instead they focused on how 'bad' the fairtale romance was in this fairytale and took away Snow's defining trait, her kindness and without that kindness it isn't Snow White. I definitely agree that of the Remake of Cinderella was 'better' than anything we've gotten since but it was part of this downward trend from the start itself. Honestly I Wish Disney (if they're committed to remakes) looked up the source materials more to try and retell these stories in different ways Not try and cram political statements in at the expense of the stories they're trying to tell. I could go on but this is getting a bit long 😅. But really I mostly agree with you, I'm just not as forgiving of Disney when they butcher their Own products that got them where they are today. There is just something admirable about a story that came out during the great depression, about a young girl driven out the only home she knew with naught but the clothes on her back, could find shelter and make friends through kindness and hard work. I think that message still resonates till today, don't you?
@@DeathLadyShinigamiYeah I absolutely agree with you that the animated Disney versions of the princesses have been criticized unfairly, it was just trendy at the time I really don't know what people were on about as I mentioned I was a teen and couldn't care less I really didn't view fiction through such cynical lense. And I agree the remakes were doomed to fail from the beginning because :d they don't aim to tell a story but rather fix perceived mistakes and you can't win with such an approach, you truly better start anew, for awhile now I've been thinking that it would've worked better if they went back to the original tales and tried to get inspired from their darker tone. Would've worked well for the representation they claim to value, too, in the Hans Christian Andersen tale Ariel has a grandma who teaches her a lot about the human world it would've been so cool to see Ariel having a female figure of guidance but .... that would take so much more effort cuz they'd need to establish a new aesthetic, a new frame, fresh characters and it's so much easier to copy something already made :ddd So yeah overall definitely agree with you that the animations were judged harshly and it is that effort to overcorrect the past that is now resulting in incoherent soulless stories. And of course I absolutely think the message of the older stories still works great today, they're timeless for a reason.
You know, I tried to work out why I had a bit of a problem with the scene where Cinderella is locked up in the live action and you perfectly described why in your comment. I still enjoy the movie but the original animation and her characterization in that hits harder than the 2015 version. Ever After with Drew Barrymore is the best live action version of Cinderella hands down. What’s your view on the live action 101 Dalmatian’s (1996)? I know it’s not about princesses and it’s not made in the last decade but it’s still live action. Despite it being absolutely ridiculous I really enjoy that movie - it doesn’t take itself too seriously and leans into the absurd. Not to mention Glenn Close was perfect as Cruella.
@@dawnmayflower4422 oh Glenn as Cruella was Magnificent! I remember loving her as a child. It's been forever since I last saw it but I'm a bit more forgiving of it because it had drastic changes over the original. With 101 Dalmatians '96 by taking away the dogs voices the story focused more on the humans of the story. They told a different story with the same base premise. And it didn't do as Maleficent did by being meta and trying to 'fix' something of the originals story i.e. Sleeping Beauty's woken by true Love's kiss narrative. Dalmatians '96 told a story with the only tongue in cheek being Easter eggs and the fact that the audience Knows Cruella is the Villain and they let her be as Ham as possible which was only to the Stories benefit. But glad I could put to words what bugged you about remake Cindy's climax. It took me forever to figure out how to word it without doing a disservice to abuse victims. I'm not the best with the written word (hell i also suck at speaking) but so many prop up that movie and I Had to try and express why I disliked it. So I'm happy I got my point across legibly 😁
“Snow Brown” pretty much looked like she was actually saying, “you do this or it’s off with your head” She was supposed to be kind and caring towards others. She thought children lived in the dwarfs’s house which is why she took it upon herself to help them have a clean home and providing them with good food. Rachel’s version seems to be a slob if she broke into their home and just slept in their beds while they came back from work. Only to end up bossing them around to clean. Guess the animals didn’t care to help her with the task “and a very evidently so” 😆
I dont know as a kid watching all these movies, i saw women who over came some very bad situations AND found love. I never saw victims, doormats or weaknesses. Maybe we should stop telling people what you think they see?
Too many people live in bubbles in one form or another. One of the worst is the "modern" bubble. They act like society and culture hasn't changed in 200 years but also modern options and sensibilities also existed back then. I used to hear people say "Hard to imagine life before they invented [insert whatever]" but these people are quite literally incapable of comprehending a world before modern thinking. Women in Cinderella's positions didn't have the avenues for escape that modern women have. Modern feminists can't comprehend this because they want to rewrite history to make it look like it was always an option, for some reason.
I have been hearing the term bubbles around me but I hadn't researched it and thus I didn't comprehend it completely so your comment has the honor of opening my eyes on that topic :dd you really described it well. Absolutely agree and also maybe another bubble would be western feminists assuming people in all the other parts of the world have advanced past certain issues. Me and the people close to me are not from the west and so I'm constantly exposed to a reality where women stay in something disfunctional because they're told divorce is not a option or kids can't escape their households so I'd even argue Cinderella's issues are alive and thriving today, a lot of people go through them and feel like they've no way out...

@@mariechen4375 Ah definitely don't agree with such view, if it's based on reality we must examine said reality. Real people have been using magical fairytale to cope with rrreal rrreality :d so we can't dismiss their historical experience because their tales had magic in them

I sometimes hear people saying dismissively "why do you care, it's children's media" and I think to myself, exactly, adults watch stuff and forget about them, no biggie, but for a child that'll be a core memory, that'll shape their views on life for years ahead, they're the ones we need to care the most about when it comes to the quality of the media they consume... I love how the harder they try, the less diverse those fake activust make the princesses. Meek women exist. Boy crazed girls exist. Inner strength is the best strength to have.
What you said about watching Cinderella 2015 to have hope to get out of abusive household relationships was very true. I have watched Cinderella several times a year since I saw it, and that is exactly why. It is relatable, and being kind to others (despite people taking advantage of my kindness) is not a weakness, but a strength.
I'm sorry for what you've been through and thank you so much for sharing your experience, I think it's important for us to remember that people who seek comfort in stories like Cinderella's still exist. We didn't go extinct when Cinderella fell out of public favor :dd
A lot of the modern Disney mindset is based on criticisms I heard from growing up in the 2000s. As such, there's been less fairy tales, more original content, and more girlboss-type leads. Some of these were good, some were bad.
O very interesting to hear that it's been going since the 2000s, the criticism I was aware of is the one I observed in the 2010s onward, I guess cuz of my age and the point in time in which I learned English, very interesting to hear it's been going for a quite a longer while now
@@duskytalkz I remember people would often criticize the older princesses and how all Disney princesses up to then would always have a love interest. That's probably one of the things that contributed to Wish's writing overhaul.
Snow White too, that's why it's so shocking they're changing her to "the boss type" when originally she does good things for the dwarfs as appreciation and helps improve their lifestyle like an angel
Wow, I kind of like the points that you made. Anyways, I do kind of agree. Even though there might be some modern princesses that might be better than the original but most of them are basically one sided which in a way kind of ruins the aspect of being a princess. Sure there are rich spoiled girls who will get whatever they want from their father, mother, or care giver without appreciation and there are girls who are completely invisible to their respected family or care giver, which in both ways if they are rude, cruel, and mean explains why people either give in to what they want or completely ignore them. While kindness, helpfulness, and taking care of the people you love that’s what it means to be a princess. Everybody understands including people that it doesn’t really target to, but people who don’t really understand don’t actually understand the product it is. I know this is talking about modern Disney Princess but pretty much in the same way it also happens with other franchises like Marvel and Lucasfilm. Sure, Marvel might be a little acceptable with that since it’s female superheroes meant for a male audience, but at times it feels like it’s off topic. Lucasfilm mostly Star Wars is actually completely different in the modern area while capturing what it supposed to be; however, they completely messed up what the product should be. Even good characters actually be ruined by an agenda that no body even the audience actually cares about. Anyways, back to the topic it’s all about the humanity of the people not about the inhumanity. Once somebody becomes inhuman on someone can actually become their own villain. Although, at a time I did like Snipperwolf with all of her reacting videos on somethings that I watched but after watching Be Amazed that it was an inhuman reaction that caused herself to be a villain and a RUclips villain. Which I’m guessing she is still learning from that. An inhuman reaction can lead to a downfall of the person. So, why I choose Lucasfilm Star Wars as an example? The music video. The video just attack and humiliate the audience for no reason at all but in reality it attack and humiliated all companies it involved. Sorry if this is long but I will just cut to the chase. A lady with humanity can be a strong leader and also be kind, caring, and nice while people who are inhuman are basically mean, cruel, and self entitlement. What I mean be the princess hero that people live up to be otherwise they will see it as a princess villain.
I absolutely agree it applies to other franchises but I decided to keep it focused on Disney because the broader you make a topic the more you're risking to under-research something and give a back take :dd but I like seeing people in the comments make associations with other franchises or aspects of life, that's definitely the point. You're right, people sense unkind, inhuman behavior and tend to dislike it. Usually everyone likes to feel heard and cared for. And so if one wants to be a good leader, it'll be nice for them to be kind and caring, at least that's my wishful thinking 😂the real world isn't always wholesome but hey, doesn't mean we can't strive to be better. Also please don't apologize for the length of the message ㅠㅠ I had another commenter apologize too and it breaks my heart 😭 that people feel like they need to apologize if they speak too much, here long speeches are welcomed :d I really enjoy reading them
@@duskytalkz Awh, thank you. You are definitely a good person. I know not everybody likes big speech that’s why I put the apology. It only shows if I don’t know someone and it takes kindness and courage to have friends that understand the disability and help me through the day. With writing I can express my thoughts whether if I agree with a person or not, but of course strangers don’t know the reality of people writing. I know I don’t usually use my disability as an excuse because sometimes when people hear it they start talking in baby talk. Even when there’s a disability where it’s not shown strangers talk in baby talk. Anyways, it takes good friends, family, and community helpers (including entertaining media) to make it through the day.

Hi. I found your video and your message beautiful. I grew up in a chaotic household with many injustice. I grew up full of hate and resentment, snapping back often at people. Because I was thinking “I DESERVE a better life”, but what did I do to deserve it? Nothing really, just behaved badly because others behaved badly with me. Sometimes you just need to let go the hate, the resentment, to feel free, to BE ABLE TO DESERVE MORE. I assure you that the kind of liberation that comes from hate and revenge is not so good long term. I am proof. I had my revenge, it is sweet in the beginnung till you realise you had become rotten along the road to it. I think I would be in a happier place if hope and kindness guided me. I’m not saying to leave bad people unpunished, but often life will punish them anyway, it’s better to save yourself and your sanity people. I was the anti-Cinderella, anti-Snow White, and it backfired.
Hayo, thank you so much for sharing your personal experience. I think we're kinda like a garden, all sorts of things can grow in us, angry thorns, pretty tulips or wild thyme. Sometimes when we've been hurt we let the thorns take over, it's a protective mechanism I suppose. But then imagine a thorny wall, it's prickly both on the inside and the outside so inevitably we're going to hurt ourselves too and at some point we'll realize that's not a way to live life... But definitely remember you're not damaged forever, you can battle the thorns and replant whatever sweet flower suits you and let kindness guide you. So you'll be alright in the end and what's more, maybe your garden will smell so sweet it'll make other people along your way happier and that in turn will give you even more joy and that's what life is all about I think. But 😂 enough of the gardening metaphor, I'm happy you've reached a point in your life where you can look back and reflect and choose what's best for you. And I wish you lots of happiness ahead. ^-^
@@duskytalkz Thank you so much for your words of hope! I really do appreciate them and I like the garden metaphor, it’s so interesting. I really wish to warn people about this new way of thinking were kindness and love are seen as weaknesses, when in reality I learned that they are the opposite.
@@BlondieBelzebubI remember this quote from when I was in uni and we studied Confucianism it went something like: "What I hear, I forget. What I see, I remember. What I do, I understand." and since then I've come to terms with the idea that a lot of the times people will hear about someone's personal experience and still not listen to them. But when they go through it, do the mistake so to speak and they realize something isn't right they'll look around to try to understand what's happening and then the existence of people like you will be crucial. Because you share your wisdom and it'll help guide people on a better path. So, keep doing what you're doing, I believe we'll come back around and start valuing kindness more.

Cinderella is a great role model. I have always loved her. To be kind even when the world is setting you up for failure is a show of a strong character. That despite everything she stayed true to herself. She didn't let the world tell her what to be and with how social media is easily influencing young people nowadays...this is a great lesson to learn. This new Snow White is obnoxious. If a male character were to act the exact same way, it would have been deemed problematic.
Your videos definitely have a little bit of magic 🐤I have been binging your channel while crocheting a present for my mom, and I feel so soothed by both the ideas and the presentation ❤
Your comments on my vids are so lovely, I just couldn't help but stop by to tell you I've read them and they mean so much to me, really happy you're enjoying the vids, I'm sure your mom will love her present, it sure is a very thoughtful one 💕✨
@@duskytalkz Aw, that's so sweet, thank you ❤ She did love it, so I'll make a couple more mug cozies for her tomorrow. A perfect excuse to watch more of your videos 😉🥰
I agree, they managed to capture a sort of colorful and whimsical feeling when portraying her, I wish they'd do that for the other princesses too. This is not related to what I discuss in the video but I've noticed a pattern of washed out color palettes with the newer live actions and I simply don't get it. I understand Disney wants a more serious tone in their movies but that doesn't mean everything has to be grim and colored in some sort of green-ish gray, I feel like it takes away from the fairytale feeling.
I know a victim of domestic abuse. My own grandmother. Oh how I wish she could stab her way out of the situation and not suffer any consequences (looking at you grandfather 😡). But no, 50 years of abuse made her think that the mistreatment towards her is normal human behaviour. Whenever me and my mum do something nice for her, she'll shrink away and scold us for not having fun for ourselves, which can be too much for us at times. Law enforcement can't help us with this, as my grandfather has nothing to lose in his old age. And she doesn't like living in the city so she'll stay at her home in the village, which comes at the detriment of being at the beck and call of my grandfather's word, doing everything he asks for cause she doesn't even understand that the option of saying no is available for her. Still, threats from my mother and uncle have worked towards my grandfather and he doesn't delve into physical abuse because he's scared of his children. That's the best we could do for my grandmother. I swear, my grandmother's existence alone will break the American feminists' brains. My grandmother had no choice in her life but to endure abuse and hope for the future. Back in the day, divorce was akin to blasphemy against god and her maiden family would have disowned her if she had attempted to run away from her husband. Despite all of this happening to her, she was one of the better off woman of her times. At the end of the day, I am glad that me and my mum get to break the cycle of abuse. That's all that matters. Disney can go to hell for saying that leaving is always an option for people who literally can't leave.
Thank you for sharing your experience, I'm really sorry about your grandmother but I also realize it's very difficult to break someone free from such a situation, especially given their life and experience. I'm happy you and your mom got to break the cycle. And on your point about US feminism I do feel like it constantly forgets the rest of the world exists and has struggles. I know it's not their responsibility to worry about everyone but a little bit of compassion goes a long way.
1950's Cinderella was kind but also naive, she grew grew up in that abusive household so she was used to getting bossed around but she didn't think ill of her stepmother or stepsisters until the day her fairy godmother appeared. Snow white was similar, the queen forced her to do chores and wear rags because she was jealous of her beauty, but that made her more fair because she became modest and independent.
1:35: I don't know, I LOVE Maleficent but dislike Cinderella. Maleficent gived the cartoon a new understanding, made the heroes more realistic, without kind-evil polarisation. And they changed the whole idea. They made an adaptation. Cinderella is just the same as the cartoon. It's like Disney have a creative impotence. It's just a reshoot with some little changes. But those little changes aren't so influential to the story like it was in Maleficent. That's the first point. The second is the main character. I see Maleficent as a strong, proud woman, who knows her worth, can be evil and can love. It was very interesting for me to see how she was trying to hate Aurora, but she couldn't. I love the moment when she defeats her kingdom. But in Cinderella I saw a person who cannot stand up for herself. When the stepmother said about attic on her offer to give sisters her own room, she didn't said what she wanted to, but SHE WENT WHERE SHE WERE TOLD. Without any words. I dislike such characters. If she can't go or is afraid to go and try a new life, she is weak or just stupid. If she can go but wants to stay because of parents, means she has enough strength to stay as a memory to her parents, but WHY so she doesn't reread the stepmother? Saw her changes than, that made me like her more. But why she didn't do it from the very beginning?.. And about the prince. Absolutely on the side of his father. He is a PRINCE, he cannot marry on a person like Cinderella. It was a VERY good idea if he knew Ella from their childhood. They were friends and then fell in love. You believe in it, understand why he wants to choose only her. But in a film they knew each other for 30 minutes or an hour, it's unreal to love someone so much than they marry then. It's real to fell in love as a chemistry, but he doesn't know who is she and loves the painting in his head. It's absolutely ridiculous behaviour for the future king. Absolutely can't understand the character. And being silent, let them sit on your neck is here kindness and an example to children. Or they can think "if I will be evil, they won't laugh at me, I want to be evil!" I guess it's a very bad, an awful message. Because in reality the fairy godmother won't come.
I remember defending snow white and cinderella from ridicule as far back as 2010. I never understood the negativity toward them online because they were genuinely good characters. Still are to this day. I absolutely love snow white and always have. She isnt the most complex character in the world, but she definitely is more complex than how mainstream media has been treating her decades. The whole shitting on disney princesses started as far back as in the late 90s and continued into the 00s. Shrek was probably the first movie to really mock the disney princess movie while some of the later movies during the 90s Disney Renaissance like Hercules and Mulan took a hard look on soft femininity but still did it without making it about hating disney princesses. Enchanted was also a jab at the disney princess, but it was done tastefully enough. The mean spirited criticisms came in the early 2010s and onwards. Im not surprised we ended up where we are today. I blame all the snarky bitches on tumblr and deviant art in the early 2010s for perpetuating this negative nancy attitude about characters who were perfectly fine and couldnt help that the nancies were too media illiterate to understand what their movies were about. Even Nostalgia Critic understood it and defended these princesses early on. I remember him commenting on the accusation that cinderella doesnt do anything in her movie and NC showing a parade of clips of cinderella working her ass off in almost every scene she is in throughout the movie. I always appreciate him for pointing this out.
I'm a feminist and honestly I don't understand bow they're making it into girlbossing others, when it's meant to be equality. Appalled at how they keep misunderstanding the animated princesses. Like if being strong only means being a bully.
ABC (AniMat, Beyond the Trailer, Chris Stuckman) and many other critics who justify the existence of live-action remakes compared to the originals are the only people who would dislike this.
The longer I'm on the internet the more I realize there will always be some people who dislike or disagree with your opinion no matter what it is 😂 so unless it's some valid criticism you just gotta shrug it off.
This trend of downplaying Cinderella's trauma as simply being a "doormat" is horrid since there are women today in that very situation. So, would they say the same thing to a real life woman? Why didn't you do anything about it? Sometimes people are stuck in a situation they feel no way out of. They feel they can't stand on their own, because their abuser makes them feel they so they have no one to rely on than them. Or they actually do have no recourse so they feel that they're only situation is to stay in that abusive relationship despite wanting to leave. Maybe there are other factors (children) and the person feels they have to stay for them. Whatever the reason is...things are not so black and white or easy as they seem despite how people may view it.
I've always hated Snow-White and found her unrelatable (same for Cindirella). I don't understand how mistreated people could remind kind and not become bitter and depressive like I would. Also, the apple scene shows Snow-White being incredibly dumb and that's what annoys me the most. Think about it: she knows that the Queen wants her dead, she avoided being killed by the huntsman and a strange old woman knocks at the door of her house lost into the woods. Isn't that weird?
Well🤔I definitely don't think all mistreated people turn out the same, some will get depressed, some will become very angry, others even might start mistreating the people around them, not knowing how to cope with their own pain but there always will be those who know suffering and want to transform it into a kind warm feeling, so that nobody else feels the way they did, because they realize it's not just them who suffered, a lot of people suffer and they just cope I guess through trying to mend some of the broken pieces of reality. About the apple scene :d in all fairness the queen in the original fairytale poisoned only half of the apple and she ate in front of Snow White in order to convince her that it's all good, also fun fact the prince didn't kiss Snow, he was just carrying the casket and a bump on the road made the piece of apple lodge outta her and she spit it, not as romantic I guess :ddd
Snow White helped the old woman who was acting like she was sick and she gave her water. She acted sick only after Snow White was hesitant to speak to her because she was a stranger. She then acted like the wishing apple was necessary as a form of gratitude, and Snow White didn't want to hurt her feelings after the old lady almost just died. Honestly, I sometimes do things that people ask of me because I don't want to hurt their feelings and want to be kind even if I don't want to do it.
@@Tiara_Princess7Ah that's a good point too, especially knowing she was a teenager but yeah growing up I'd be like that too, doing things I don't want to in order to not offend people :dd and saying sorry even tho I probably did nothing wrong because I'd be afraid of them going off, very real reactions and experiences. It's sad when people just write you off as a doormat, it's a bit dehumanizing :'))
@@duskytalkz Exactly. This is why Snow White is one of my top 3 favorite Disney princesses. I can understand where she is coming from while most people look at her with judgement.
I believe you’re only showing your own weakness when you complain that other people are stronger and more endurance than you. There are plenty of examples of people for suffering and don’t become bitter and depressed. Mainly because those people are more likely to survive suffering, whereas those who become bitter and the depressed are significantly less likely. Ask for Snow White one she is 16-year-old girl . 2 it’s not like she knows that the queen can shap shift. For all she knows the queen has no idea where she is so of course she was off her guard. She thought she was safe.
Belle wasn't afraid to ask for help jasmine wasn't afraid of asking for help neither was tiana mulan, rapunzel, or moana the difference is that they stood up for themselves cindy and snow white had no agency in the animated movies they never experienced anger because their the perfect wives and good wives dont get angry belle wanted to travel, tiana wanted to share her talents, moana wanted to see what the ocean was like, rapunzel wanted to get out of her tower they had goals they had anger they were human
I see where you're coming from but people who've experienced DA might not react like a perfect role model and they might be unable to stand up for themselves. If it was that easy there would be no victims of DA but life doesn't work this way. About the angering thing I don't know I personally rarely anger, usually I'm just hurt and I cry rather than being angry would that make me an unrealistic human :') And having characters with aspirations is cool but I think there's nothing wrong with characters who bring hope to the viewers, hope of a better life ya know. That being said I understand your opinion too and I respect it, thank you for leaving a comment and joining the discussion ^-^
@duskytalkz I'm also a victim of domestic violence you cant just look down on other da victims and tell them how to cope with our trauma just because you want to be a cookie cutter housewife like snow white doesn't mean I should give up my agency like you yes I would like a partner in my life and friends to help me but I still want to be more then my partners girlfriend I want to be human anger is normal and it's not healthy to bottle up your emotions it's not healthy to be expected to be a docile wife with nothing in her brain but material instincts Flynn rider helped rapunzel and he never expected her to be his wife the beast wanted to get with belle but unlike Gaston he supported her hobbies and gave her the library li Shang didn't kill mulan when he found out she was a woman and decided to help her in the climax of the movie
@@Emily-the-faerieHumm, I'm a little bit confused where in the vid did I say one should be a docile wife or talk about what kinda wife I personally wanna be🤔 you can be kind and have agency, you might be kind and be in a sport in your life where you don't have agency and you regain it later, the human experience is complex. I don't think I've looked down on you but I'm sorry you felt this way. And I think different people release emotions differently, some through anger some through tears one is not less than the other. Once again sorry if you've felt hurt or attacked and I hope you have the type of life experice that is best suited for you and makes you the happiest.
Well everyone is different… Cinderella had no where to go so she made the most out of the circumstances she was in. It’s a lot like myself right now where even tho my circumstances aren’t the best I can’t just go and leave either. For someone like me Cinderella does give me hope. And Snow White was strong in her own way too. She wasn’t just a cookie cutter housewife like imagine getting almost assassinated and having to run away in the woods as like a damn teenager and still be able to pull yourself up together and make the most of it. Find a way to survive and a place to stay where you won’t freeze and starve to death.
Be honest, where disney orincesses ever relatabke? Who can relate to a fish girl who reather senslessly risks her life for some aliens tgen care at all about ger fsmily and is willing to trait of everything to get away? The only classical disney lrinces that had relatabke nitivations and such was nit a princess alone but mulan, eho risks everything to pritect her family, who struggles to fit in but tries. Aurora, snow white and cinderella all have zero agency and are object acted upon... And ariel has agency but her oriorities and all are just weird and not very aspirational
Sometimes it’s a case of it being very broad like Walt himself related to Cinderella of constantly working to achieve the reward. Disney snow white does stray a bit from the material and leans a bit of the Great Depression that came out at the time, it won’t click with people much in the now but back then snow white’s high optimism amongst the darkest of situations is kind of aspirational
I could relate with Ariel at some stages, growing up. Like just school and everyday's life is not enough, I want to go to "..." and be his or that and do this or that and I'd be ready to leave everything behind for my big dream, for my passion. And a parent who doesn't understand, but then realises that, after all, it's your happiness. And he'd rather help you, than leave you in the hands of someone who could take advantage of you.
i hate the live action little mermaid because ariel is black and she feels so soulless like jodi benson the original ariel is much better than halle bailey's version because ariel and eric's relationship works in the cartoon and in the live action version their relationship doesn't.
“Kindness is not outdated” so true!
Honestly Cinderella is more relatable in maintaining hope for a better future, something that many Disney princesses today don't often go through.
Since I don't live in the western world idk do people there have better safety routes but from what I've seen here it's still pretty difficult to escape from such a domestic situation (especially in the case of Cinderella where she's an orphan and for a huge part of her mistreatment she was a kid)
As you're saying, she had to wait for an opportunity to escape, someone to help her, what else was she supposed to do :ddd
And people like Rachel are young (well I'm around her age but still, I suppose we're sorta young, we definitely have room to learn and improve) and so I do hope with time she and people who think like her allow for more compassion in their hearts, it helps a lot when trying to understand the world.
@@jamesandrews5629 Agreed! Cinderella is stronger than we give her credit for.
I think this was from college but teacher told us: "A leader, works with the team. Not bossing the team"
Anyone who says that Cinderella is a fool for not just leaving is an ignorant who has no clue of the historical context she lives in.
Simple. DEI makes everything "fair". Since this Snow White is the most DEI character and therefore the most "fair"
The evil queen is prettier.
There is no such thing as “DEI” its a fake boogeyman made by right wing snowflakds
i don't even know.
@@timbuktu8069 Right, what casting director had the brilliant idea to cast Gal Gadot as the evil queen and Rachel Zegler as Snow White? how are we supposed to believe the queen is jealous of Snow White's looks in this version?
they asking why cinderella couldnt leave then tell me where she was SUPPOSED TO LIVE???
tht mansion is HER house
A lovely point indeed :ddd
but you know that cinderella can't stand up to her stepfamily or tell them that the mansion is Her's.
I'm not even gonna start with Mulan, they butchered that one So badly 🥲
With Snow White I don't even think they watched the first animated film they were basing this remake off of?
Would've worked well for the representation they claim to value, too, in the Hans Christian Andersen tale Ariel has a grandma who teaches her a lot about the human world it would've been so cool to see Ariel having a female figure of guidance but .... that would take so much more effort cuz they'd need to establish a new aesthetic, a new frame, fresh characters and it's so much easier to copy something already made :ddd
So yeah overall definitely agree with you that the animations were judged harshly and it is that effort to overcorrect the past that is now resulting in incoherent soulless stories.
My daughter loves your channel.
THANK YOU for this. For her.
Aww, thus is so cute, been smiling for a long while after reading your comment, really made my night, thank you so much ^-^
My new favorite channel
“Snow Brown” pretty much looked like she was actually saying, “you do this or it’s off with your head”
She was supposed to be kind and caring towards others.
They Always use that nonsensical excuse that If Magic exists in that world you cant complain about hustorical accuracy. I hate that, with this you can excuse pretty much anything
@@mariechen4375 Ah definitely don't agree with such view, if it's based on reality we must examine said reality. Real people have been using magical fairytale to cope with rrreal rrreality :d so we can't dismiss their historical experience because their tales had magic in them
@@mariechen4375 That argument is especially pointless in the case of Cinderella because it doesn't look like magic is widespread at all. Even if magic exists, if most people don't even know it exists, how can it solve problems?
@@lordtrinen2249 Well, when I tell them a marriage to a prince in that time period would have been the only way for Cinderella to get out of her abusive home, they complain that I cant say its supposed to be historically accurate just because there is magic in this world! They are ridiculous!

This is the best video about the Snow White remake I've seen. You pretty much summed up the problem with the movie perfectly!
@@duskytalkz Thank you. Yes, not everyone can be the girl bosses that the media says we should be. I am glad characters like Cinderella exist.
No Cinderella was sweet..kind and positive holding onto Hope
Snow White too, that's why it's so shocking they're changing her to "the boss type" when originally she does good things for the dwarfs as appreciation and helps improve their lifestyle like an angel
@@Jkandequil yes so true
To be honest, the reason I write a lot is because in reality I’m not a very good speaker because of a disability.
@@justinfriedrich5741I'm happy you've found an outlet for yourself through writing. On one hand it's sad that the strangers might not know you n judge your lengthy speech or something but on the other hand I suppose it's cool that you've found a way to connect to the world in a way in which the world doesn't immediately see your disability and treat you differently for it. I'm also happy you've a supportive community around you, the feeling of not being alone in whatever kind of situation is important.

Lily James' Cinderella is the best Cinderella. For the first time it felt like the fairy tale character came to life.

Plot twist: Lady Tremaine was the author of that article.
Cinderella has always been my favorite princess and will always be my favourite princess ^^
It's true!!!
About the angering thing I don't know I personally rarely anger, usually I'm just hurt and I cry rather than being angry would that make me an unrealistic human :')
And having characters with aspirations is cool but I think there's nothing wrong with characters who bring hope to the viewers, hope of a better life ya know.
@duskytalkz I am a da victim I was never afraid to be angry
Well everyone is different…
Cinderella had no where to go so she made the most out of the circumstances she was in.
Luckily I couldn't relate with Cinderella and Snow, I never lived in an abusive situation.
But I can try to understand them and have empathy.
i hate the live action little mermaid because ariel is black and she feels so soulless like jodi benson the original ariel is much better than halle bailey's version because ariel and eric's relationship works in the cartoon and in the live action version their relationship doesn't.
i rather stick with original ariel .
