12:22 - 15:28 I never considered that one of the things that made Strange World less adventurous-feeling was the fact that the story already begins in a world that is strange to us, and then just goes to another world that is strange but in a different way. Yes there's contrast between the 2 strange worlds, but before we're even done getting comfortable with the first one, we're thrust into the second and having to repeat that mental process all over again. And that can add a level of exhaustion before even getting to what should be the more exciting part of the story.
That is wonderful insight! Thank you for bringing that up!

so many movies feel flat these days. I thought maybe I'm just getting older and things aren't new anymore. but you've highlighted just how little humanity and wonder is actually in them.

For me, an adventure story is something that captures the feeling that you have in a child when it feels like the world itself is magical and every Thing is slightly different is fascinating. I remember being fascinated as a kid by funny shaped rocks. I can still find some of that feeling when I walk in nature But it’s much harder now.

The Disney live action remakes are all the evidence you need to see that Disney no longer understands adventure, fairy tale or even emotional/spiritual storytelling.

Their original live-action films are hit or miss (largely miss), so live-action remakes is a smart move from a financial standpount. Such a shame; I'd enjoy original, PG-13 live-action musicals from them!

This video feels like a great adventure of it's own!
Thank you for making this. It definitely helped me rethink in how I should approach writing my stories
Edit: I also like how you didn't demonize the or just relentlessly bash the writers like so many other people have done

Thank you so much for the sweet comment, I did hope the video feels a little adventurous, so glad you think it is and I'm really happy it's given you food for thought.
And for your edit, the writers like all of us are humans so I try to see where they're coming from. I've plenty of creative people in my personal life and so my experience being around them has taught me that when there's some issue in the writing there's some inner conflict in the writer's soul, so I'm interested in examining what it is.

The difference is that, while cool, Strange World doesn't properly have too much of an explanation for the state of the world, and the reason for the mission, while there, isn't very strong. Atlantis, however does all of that and more. I will say that Strange World had the upper hand when it came to promotions, though, because I like that one that looked like an old, mid-20th century newscast

"Strange World" is so weird to me. Unlike "Raya" and "Wish," no part of it really looks like it had potential. Definitely hope they tale more inspiration from comics and video games; there's a lot of great adventure stories to be influenced by!

Honestly I'm not even sure they wanted to be inspired by an adventure story, seems like their primary goal was something different so I feel like they should've abandoned the whole adventure concept if they didn't feel like doing it well 🤔

    • @OpticalSorcerer
      @OpticalSorcerer 28 дней назад +2

It didn't really fit with Disney's recent successes of original animated stories. I'm curious how this concept got off the cutting room floor.

@@duskytalkz it’s a pity because I actually think a story about a group of adventures who discover that they’re on top of a giant turtle could actually be fun

@@bryanmcclure2220I know riiight, as a kid I liked reading 1001 nights and there was a story with a turtle island there and I was sooooo fascinated with it, I loved re-reading it. The concept itself is awesome, the writers just gotta be passionate about it.

Seems like an unusual decision to me to have an Adventure/exploration "going to an unknown place" movie start out in a fantasy setting in the first place, to me

OMFG, why am I crying? Is it because I lost that wonder in my life, or that the world has lost that wonder? I dunno.
I'm sure you probably get this a lot, but have you considered becoming an audio book narrator? Are you already one? LOL
Also, I pray the almighty youtube algorithm gods bless this video so the whole internet can see it!

Thank you so much for this comment, the highest of compliments for a vid of mine is having made someone feel emotional, I really appreciate it :') I am hopeful that we can all regain a bit of that wonder back!
As for the narrating, until posting on here I've never considered reading anything because irl i speak sorta quietly so my average experience has been people being annoyed about it, but thanks to you and other sweet people like you I've regained some confidence in my voice and I've been considering doing something small narration-wise at least on RUclips so thank you so so much ^-^
