La signora Scuderi visse i suoi ultimi tempi nella Casa di Riposo di Verdi a Milano e quek che posso dire, avendola conosciuta, é che sarebbe un dono che molte attuali soprano cantassero oggi con la sua tecnica e la sua limpidezza vocale. A quella età vorrei davvero sentire cantare alcune delle attuali "sciantose" spacciate per soprani....
This scene from Tosca's Kiss with Madame Scuderi always sends shivers down my spine. Whenever I think of this aria I hear her voice at this advanced age. It is a miracle. This is sung with such beauty and love!

Miss Scuderi was a magnificent singer . She possessed a beautiful timbre and an excellent technique. She sang mostly in smaller theaters but she was as good, if not better, than many of her more famous contemporary singers.
She was a solid hard working pro with a refined taste and wonderful musicality.

Probably 80 or 81, not sure, she passed away in 1987, and she was born 1906, she didn't live to 84
According to Wikipedia she was born in 1906, but it is possible the date is wrong given that she made her debut in 1925 as Leonora!, [age 19] which seems highly improbable.
How beautifully she still sings. I think this is from a wonderful documentary about the Casa Verdi home in Milano [?] for retired opera singers. Thank you so much.

I think that the acoustics of the corridor with its bare walls adds to the drama of her voice as the dynamics increase. Its a very powerful moment.

This is such an incredible document, wish she had gone on to sing the rest. The acoustics are incredible. I think Verdi knew what he was doing when he built this casa di risposa.

It's not age that changes the voice; it's allowing the muscles which produce the basis of the voice to atrophe.
@@ginadecker5013 Yup, I thought the same thing, so I kept singing, singing, singing, but the atrophy happened anyway... It's very frustrating and soul-killing.

@noregrets54 -87 years old and singing.I'll have long given up trying to get out from under at that age. I regret my typo listing her as 84.
Madame Scuderi never lived to be 87. She was born in 1906 and died in 1987 at age 81. What you hear there is nothing. There are several divine recordings on RUclips of a younger Scuderi. Do her legacy a favor and listen to those.

The voice doesn't age; the muscles age. If you let them wane, the voice cannot function as it did.

Just one corrrection; Sara DIED in 1987. This documentary was made in 1984, so she would have been 78 since she was born in 1906!.
