How combined play time of all top runners is probably longer than you live. How calculators are small part of the run and calling grinding 12 hours a day “calculating your way to wr” is so wrong and so ignorant. But I won’t, I really feel bad for you. But not everyone can download the calculator and use it well unless they have a second monitor or some other setup so I think that they made the wrong decision with allowing that

I'd argue that a good rule would be banning settings changes during runs. This means that pearl hanging is disallowed since you change your render distance, but zero cycle is fine.
well what if i have a bad pc and cannot play on entity distance above 50 when im in the overworld, but in the end i have to turn it to atleast 100 to see the dragon??? Do i have to suffer from lag in the overworld? The better solution is to ban RENDER DISTANCE changes specifically. Although that will kill monuments, which are meta for this category (u only need a fort so that saves a lot of time).

By mojang's definition, beds doing damage is in fact "intentional game design" why not just make the rules no changing settings mid run, instead of specifically banning pearl hanging? Sounds like a good principle in general.
yep. a speedrun that takes skill to do well in. what a shocker. Thats not to say that rsg doesnt take skill, but a lot of the decision making and a decent number of skills are removed from the run due to the use of tools

I suggested that in discord and people were saying IGT is easier to time by and it close enough to RTA w/o loads if no one pause abuses and no one running this category will
@@_mark_3814 - The reason for no pausing is more than simply loading or pause abuse. It's also for setting change abuse, like reducing render distance to hang pearls.
1 more rule could be no pausing, or worded differently, menus still count to in game time. There was some controversy around how pausing should be handled. I think it would also work well with the rest of the proposed ruleset.

I agree with most everyone here that calculators being unbanned is dumb, and I really enjoy No F3 runs, they are fascinating. But I do hate that everyone saying 1.16.1 RSG requires no skill. What?? Memorizing 2-3 routes for each bastion type, one/zero cycling most efficiently to not waste time gathering more material for explosives, having to know how to build several different types of magma ravine portals, mapless buried treasure, and also just the countless decisions you have to make during a run, like traversal, hunger resetting, which bastion route to do, whether to high roll in certain cases, whether to risk zero-cycling, should you blaze bed, should you go for calculated travel, where do you want to blind, how to break your boat to get wood for beds, etc. Yeah it’s very dependent on RSG but look at Couriway’s no reset challenge, and you can see that it’s hard. And tournaments are so much fun, I will always remember the wildcard seed for NinjaBrain vs Dylqn in the TWagz tournament where NinjaBrain has a full route for a jungle temple and did an ironless portal. If you think it’s boring to watch someone reset constantly and using f3, then you don’t like speedrunning. For almost every game, reset efficiency is important, if you lose 2 seconds at a split (for some games), you should reset. Some games require you to memorize enemy patterns to predict RNG for a boss or loot, and if it’s bad, you reset.

It's a sandbox, with no "intended" way to play. In mojang's handbook, they instruct you to build forts in the nether and get enchanted diamond armor before going there. Will you do that as well, since it's in the handbook? Also, mojang definitely did not intend for every player to play on hardcore, that's why it's called "hardcore" and it's not the default gamemode when you create a new world. Also, I think you start the game with gamma different than 1, so... I'm just saying that using an argument of "mojang intended you to play that way that way" is stupid, as they probably didn't intend people to play for fastest time at all, as we can see in 1.16.2 and 1.18 updates, which hurt the times of speedrunners. Also, shouldn't you be playing on 1.18.1, the latest stable release, as I'm damn sure mojang "intended" people to play on latest version and not on some old outdated one. And also, what about setting EVERY setting to default? Like FOV? I mean, since it's default, mojang intended that, yes?

When I play hypervanilla, I like adding some extra rules. I don't change my RD or FOV, and I time my runs using RTA only. Takes it a step further imo.

I don't think"no pausing" would be good, it means that if you have something irl urgent to do you lose your run, that's quite infuriating.
