The father is a bad actor. I’m sure they told him to improvise but dude common.

Whenever the daughter starts crying, everyone calls her out. When the chef daughter started crying, she was the first one to comfort her. What a kind soul

The fact they're still open makes this one of the best Kitchen Nightmares episodes, considering the fact they ACTUALLY listened to criticism over time, and broke habits. Also kind of ironic the wife named "Karen" was the most sane one in the restaurant.
She was named Karen, she had the Karen haircut, the Karen voice and the Karen glasses...yet she was the least Karen-y Karen I've ever seen 😂😂😂
Not all Karens are "Karens". And very few "Karens" are called Karen.
Aw that makes me happy
its still open?
She’s not Karen. She’s Care-ren
I love this Karen. She’s the most respectful and caring person in this team.
And with a fortitude of steel. Admirable person indeed.
And the most sane person of the restaurant. Even though she has that typical Karen haircut.
Well tbh I did get a bit of a bad vibe when she told her daughter to “pull yourself together” and got mad at her for being upset those types parents usually aren’t the best.

Time flies when Gordon’s eating shit food
I have been to Yanni's well after this episode was filmed. The same family is there and the same decor that Gordon gave them. The mother said that Gordon was a total sweetheart and really caring. It was just when the cameras were on that he was "performing." She was really happy with the things he did to help them and they are still successful to this day. I also met the daughter, Elise, who is still there as of the time I visited. There is a plaque up at the foyer on the episode and a letter from him. One of the few real success stories. That family was absolutely lovely. Good people.

everyone telling her to stop crying really got me mad. Watching her family just ripping themselves apart must be rough. Never tell someone to stifle their emotions😑

@@curbyourshi1056 You shouldn't but I get why though.
@@Dawnishere We semi agree. A RUclips comment triumph! 🤝🤝🤝
@@Dawnishere Watched it some more. She's going off at NOTHING. It's a massive coping strategy, most men won't continue to criticise a crying woman, especially a very pretty one like her. I get annoyed by that behaviour, if I'm honest.
@@curbyourshi1056 As someone who cries a lot with a family similar to hers, you are being a complete douche. That environment in your own family ruins you. It makes you so depressed and anxious that everything makes you cry because everything is abusive. Every angry word thrown is a small part of a big abusive issue. You don't want your family to be tearing each other apart like that so you cry. You cry because you are mourning the simpler times and fearing the current ones. She isn't going off at nothing, you just do not understand what living like that is like.
'If I want to babysit, I go babysit my granddaughter. She's more fun than you guys!' is my all-time favourite kitchen nightmares quote

Make fun of her all you want, but in my opinion, she and Karen are the only sane people here
I don't like grapes but I respect your opinion
Agreed
Absolute gems, the both of them.
Well, to be fair, it can get frustrating when someone cries all the time while being a server. That's one of the jobs that you _have_ to put on a smile, just to look more inviting to the guests.
I wasn't a fan of the father making fun of her though. I don't think he meant any harm, and it seemed to be done out of light-heartedness, but crying all the time isn't exactly something you should be making fun of when it's a direct result of a problem.
you know it's bad when you casually sit in a restaurant waiting for your order and you see Gordon sitting here next table.

Chef's daughter 10 minutes later: **crying in a ball on the floor**
Gordon's kindness and understanding with the emotional girl.. that touched me. I've had to keep my emotions locked away for so many years, and recently have opened up a lot more, and it does come with a lot of crying from built up stress. To have someone give you that gentleness and understanding rather than anger and blame, it's a world of difference.
i’m extremely emotional as well & from i was old enough to understand “stop crying, you’re too emotional” i stopped & became a cutter & then an alcoholic. then i got more understanding & love & i’ve been clean from both ever since! people don’t understand how damaging those words can be when our ONLY outlet is tears

This poor girl needs help and they keep making fun of her or being annoyed instead, it's so sad to see. I hope she is doing better now
Honestly, if you start crying because there is too much cinnamon or too much garlic in the food, the emotional problem is yours. Crying is okay but if you're crying for every little thing, you need a professional to teach you emotional control.
The crying is learned behaviour from childhood. They let her get away with it for too long and now she can't help it.
I'm not going diagnose her. It just seems like she is highly sensitive and she is only being shamed for that. She needs a proffesional help
@@ThereAlright That's what I said. She needs professional assistance.
@@pandamilkshake Not to teach emotional control, to find the cause. The issue is rarely due to an emotional problem that is simply being too sensitive. Usually it is depression, anxiety, or neurodivergence. For me it is autism and anxiety (and possible trauma). For her I wonder if it is depression and anxiety, or a coping mechanism due to her verbally abusive family.

The girl who is always crying clearly has never had her feelings validated. The poor girl I feel for her
You just solved a piece in my healing journey. I never knew that. I cry that much too ...makes lots of sense
If her feeling were not validated she WOULDN'T cry. She is crying because people are reacting to that and were giving her attention.
They were doing it for so long that now her brain is used to it and is doing it over every single thing.
@@jkgf4671I think attention-seeking is a bullshit diagnosis. She obviously came from a family where emotions were not dealt with in a healthy way. Her dad and sister have a hair-trigger temper and her mum seems dismissive. Crying is a valid coping mechanism for abuse/trauma, and is not her seeking attention at all. You can tell by the fact that as soon as she gets attention, she still cries. Otherwise she would stop as soon as she gets what she wants. The tears are genuine
Yup a lot of issues. The show didn't talk about maybe request by the family, that chef sister is drug addict that keeps relapsing.
@@hellothere-us7iwWait really?!
The people in these comment mocking the daughter for crying are every depression-sufferers worst nightmare. She’s miserable because of the stress, mockery and bashing she endures from her family. She’s so strong for not letting it make her bitter and horrible, and she deserves so much better. Instead of just being annoyed or condescending, maybe people should try a bit of empathy. Not being able to stop crying especially in public is the worst feeling and a sign of deep emotional trauma. Notice how she never invalidated her fathers anger and was first to comfort her sister when she broke down. Absolute angel
Agreed. But cmon her crying is on another level
@@MomoDimes Fr It just mad different 💀😭😭
Agreed. This girl became a golden child for the family, trying to support them, wanting to make everything work, but so much damage has been done to her self esteem and self confidence, that she's lost in pain and helplessness.
Don't bring depression into this. that is completely irrelevant
Not speaking for the comments, but I can totally understand why the family tells her to stop crying. Empathy is limited in such a stressful situation, and usually people in these situations try to be more apathetic so the situation wouldn't hurt them emotionally, which in turn makes it hard for them to empathize with someone who completely goes against that.
Besides, I honestly would've been annoyed as well if she would cry all the time as a manager. I'm aware that talking her through it would be much better than yelling at her, but she's not the only one that can get her emotions caught up in her throat.
No the crying daughter is really really beautiful! Heart of gold!
A whimp
I feel extremely sorry for the emotional daughter. She must have so much pent up for it to be randomly pouring out like that. Shame on the rest of the family for being pissed off about it when the restaurant is probably why she’s like that in the first place.
Pissed off about it AND mocking her for it like damn, poor girl obviously has a lot going on inside
I mean it is damn annoying how she seems to cry for every single little thing.
@@IppoX90 If it's annoying for you watching it, imagine how she feels having to go through it. People don't cry for no reason (unless there's a serious disorder for that, idk, I'm not a psychiatrist). She's been watching this business, and by extension, her family's livelihood tank for several years, all the while her family is slowly falling apart because of it. The fact that she cries at every little thing means she is constantly on the verge of crying and any amount of stress or hardship is enough to push her over that edge. And to have your family then ridicule you for that because it's annoying is just cruel, and more importantly, probably only exacerbates the issue. I hope she's doing better now.
@@IppoX90 i hope you never have anyone in your life with depression. because you'll just make them worse.
She can leave anytime. She cries over too much garlic but she is able to tell a restaurant full of people to get out. She just had to look at how well her mom handled the diners.
Of course she is always crying. Look how the family treats her.
"Omg stop it"
"Just pull yourself together"
"Omg what is it again?"
Also it's hard to be in family business especially with such a dad and sister. Poor girl.
Exactly! It annoyed me so much each time they yelled at her to "stop crying", when its obvious shes overloaded with stress and has no other way of expressing it? :(
@@Squishycj Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who empathizes with her.
Never, ever work with a family member or members. If the business is going well... Sure. If it goes bad... It can really destroy families
A woman named Karen that is respectful, cares for her family and supports them? Maybe not every KN episode is full of arrogant people after all
she even has the hair
Dude, did you meet the husband?

I think it’s more sad that it’s now considered remarkable for a woman named Karen to be nice.
There is NOTHING inherently bad about the name Karen, folks. Please stop using it in a negative context. Surely we can find some other word to describe the same phenomenon that doesn’t involve turning the name of thousands of people into a slur.
Tariya is a total Angel with a delicate soul. She deserved way better.

That was some insight into the horrors of addiction. Peter looked so happy and so relieved to be cutting all the old items off the menu. Like a burden had been lifted. He clearly wanted the change just as much as everyone else but was tearing apart fighting against it instead for no real reason.
Was probably because he started the restaraunt with his Father, so he may have felt he would have been throwing that away. even if he didn't admit it or even realise it himself.
Dont speak like that...you know nothing of the horrors of addiction....people dont CHOOSE to be addicted for "NO REAL REASON"
@@JamesyWaddell I mean, you sure? 'Cause I gave into my addiction for no reason, just 'cause I was bored, and refused to stop. I chose to be addicted, for no reason.

There’s something endearing about this family. They’re dysfunctional but you can tell there’s love there. I bet holiday parties with them are wild 😂
I love that when they're cutting the menu, it's so big that Peter counts fifty-five items, and then Gordon says they've reduced it from sixty-four to twenty-one.
Really liked this family and its great they managed to stay open. Was heartbreaking seeing the daughters in tears. Thought it was good stuff by Ramsay letting the owners work on the menu themselves, when they obviously know that cuisine much better than he does.
I mean Gordon probably wanted to give them autonomy on what to have on menu so they get involved and are more motivated, but he actually crafted the recipes so they can see what good food can be.
I am impressed by the owners 180 degrees turn around from being in stubborn denial to accepting Chef Ramsays help. He was embarrassed but managed to make the right choice.
I love episodes where, despite faults/ mistakes, the entire team turns out to be likeable and this one ranks pretty high on that list - makes for a wholesome Monday viewing 😊

The way the man talks to the wife is so disrespectful and their daughter who is always crying needs some emotional support and therapy..she seemed depressed.
I cry a lot because of autism and anxiety so could really be many things causing sensitivity, for sure it should be addressed though. Unfortunately I know first-hand that the people around you need to be supportive for you to be able to be helped and the constant "stop crying, your so sensitive" sends you back to the beginning.
Every time her sister, mother or father said "stop crying", I wanted to punch the lot of them. She can't help being overly emotional, she needs to feel supported not to be spoken down to or criticised!
Crying is healing. Maybe you should look into therapy instead.
@@Jukeboksi Crying that much is often a symptom of further issues that are helped with therapy though. Crying is not always healing (I know that first hand). Often depressed and anxious people need further help, though in this case the family issues being solved may be fixing the cause anyway.
@@gavinsfriend1431 I was just peeved at the possible idea that crying = weakness or depression, when crying can be a perfectly healthy and normal way of approach.
After watching some of the full episodes and looking up that this restaurant still exists in 2022 I am really happy. Because this family somehow made me feel that they deserved most to get a successful turnaround. Well done.
Everyone but Gordon is so mean to the crying daughter. I just wanna give her a hug.
When he said "If I put too much garlic, people complain, If I don't, people complain. You can't win" that's a discussion that take place very often in greek homes.
When the cook sister started crying i wahted her emotional sister to say "stop crying" but shes a better person than I and comforted her.
I have the feeling people don't realise that she's not crying over "too much cinnamon", "oily food" or such. That's a depression there and she cannot cope in any other way. And everything that goes wrong is another drop onto an already flooded barrel; of course it frequently runs over.
I've been there before where everything that went wrong brought me to tears no matter if it seemed worth the outburst.
She needs therapy and help, not people nagging her about being emotional.

Many of the bad cooks on this show seem to be smokers. How can they taste their food? What I here from friends who give up smoking is "I can taste my food at last".
I smoke and incan still taste food very good. Honestly between my snoking friends and the non smokers the smokers are usually the better cooks haha might be my bubble
@@irgendwassmiley4183 Definitely your bubble. 😅 Smoking changes how food tastes. Doesn't mean you can't taste it at all but it's different. Just like food tastes differently after brushing your teeth.

kinda messed up how the one daughter who cries a lot is made fun of and offered no support when she grew up in a family that would make 90% of the population cry if they had to live with them.

This is the first time ‘Karen’ was right to shout at someone
Wait a minute, her name is Karen and she has that typical "Karen Haircut" but somehow, she's the most sensible person on that restaurant?
What kind of sorcery is this?
When you ordered MR. BEAN from Wish.
i don’t think it’s fair for them to get mad at the daughter for being an emotional person, she can’t control that and there’s nothing wrong with crying!
There's nothing wrong with crying, but she cried more times in these 3 days than a normal person does in a year. There's definitely something broken there. I won't say she's not justified because I don't know what led to this point, but definitely she should seek some help, possibly therapy and probably some emotional management and/or cognitive behavioral therapy.

Chef Ramsey is such a great person.
A mother who doesn't have a voice and a father with an attitude.
You can really tell why their daughters either snaps back or just cry at everything.
Nah its a mother who as attetude, he is very humble. She is more argumentative then him. Also she doesnt stand in the kitchen , the stress there is enormous.
Some girls just cry for simple things and many men dont, simple as that. Mostly if you are a chief and need to bear responsibility for the whole resturant.
That poor girl. If I was in that situation I’d be crying constantly too.
Pathetic. Man up
I’m sorry but I laughed SO hard when Peter imitated his daughter crying 🤣
I like how Mr Bean went from a stubborn mule to family man.
I’m not even surprised when the oldest daughter cried about everything, I mean she goes home and it’s still the same struggle as in the restaurant. You can’t even take a break because it’s a family business. Imagine living under those circumstances man :(
Gordon is an angel. He turned this family business around. They’re still open and operating today which is honestly a miracle. More importantly, he was able to reconnect a family. Nothing is more powerful than a united family
"If I wanted to babysit, Id go with my granddaughter. She is much more fun that you" LMAO
I think it’s really funny that the chefs are so defensive of their gross food
"My dad is stubborn. He needs and Englishman to kick his ass."
