I am amazed at the amount of work you need to do on the farm. Equipment repair and maintenance seems to take up as much of your time as the care of your animals. You take wonderful care of your animals, and people who b---- about using animals for food, need to learn that the entire life cycle of birth to harvesting of the animals is performed in a humane manner. You are to be commended.

Me being a small cattle producer here in Oklahoma, I really enjoy the insight you guys give to the viewers. A lot of people don't know or understand the time and sacrifices that come with this lifestyle. That being said I'd sure appreciate the chance to have a calf named after me (Kyle) and the option of purchasing that calf when you have bulls for sale.

Sorry you guys are having some problems with the cows not taking to their calves, it's a bit of a problem, but well worth it, for sure. Hopefully you didn't have any incident while working with those angry cows, but it does happen to the best of us, me too. You have so much to keep up with, cleaning to repairing equipment to fixing fence, etc..... Your days are busy for sure. Good one Cole, enjoyed watching, have a great weekend, what's left of it.

Been a very interesting "calving" video season for us the viewers I would tend to say.
Y'all's dealing with the elements and then, with some not so great 1st time momma cows placed a lot of interest-generating material for the viewing public.
You all sure put in a lot more work into your farm jobs, than a lot of folks may give you credit for; you sure don't get "top" pay for the excellent work you do. I just wish more folks were aware of the convenience that your end product provides for America.
Kudos to you, in every aspect of the word.
    Peace. ✌✌✌

    Hey Cole,
I was surprised that you mentioned your old man's retirement! Hopefully, you realized if Brian does retire, he'll be a difficult person to replace given how hard of a worker he is!! He's been on the farm over the years and he knows everything there is to know about the claves 😮, tractors, and acres. He's also a great mentor and leader to the rest of us. I don't know what we would do without him or his song of the day! 😊
So, are you sure he's ready to hang up his boots and enjoy his golden years? Or is this just a rumor you heard from someone else? Either way, I hope you're doing well and staying safe.

Do you have a specific age you keep the breeding cows until?
What do you do with the calves that get orphaned or mama won't feed? Do they just go to the sale barn or do you raise it on a bottle? Or do you give it to Tiffany for your 6 month anniversary?
What have you come u with for your calf shelters you are going to make? One thing is a collapsible frame for the mineral feeder and something on the top so you can just grab onto it by the bale grabber to move without any extra steps.

    • @briandawson8701
      @briandawson8701 Год назад +4

Karl Schulz if I may reply initially on behalf of most Beef cow breeders
      Condition is main 😟 issue
A Cow has to be 101% fit to be
Milking and looking after a robust , growing and demanding three month old sucking calves.
She then has to have to be healthy , fully stocked up with the correct minerals to be receptive to the BULL selected for her and be able to become pregnant within 2 service attempts
Cows cycle ( come on heat ) 18 to 21days approx
So because of THE SONNES tight calving schedule
Late calving cows are weeded out and sold or culled ( marketed for meat)
Remember the VETRINARIAN comes and pregnancy checks all cows December time ?
      No freeloaders here.
Within required calving period - stays
Others - one way ticket to SALES BARN
I knew of a cow , who was hand reared by ALISTAIR WATSON Snr at Brunthills Fraserburgh Scotland who was 16 years plus and had twins most years. I was lucky enough to be in digs there in the early 1980s .
She fairly knew where are all the extra treats were stashed ( oats barley extra turnips, molasses )to keep in Breeding condition til that age.
      I hope that helps
      Brian Dawson Edinburgh Scotland 😉

I believe Cole has handled everything there is to do on the farm except milking when they need to bottle feed the mom's milk to a calf. Is that not a skill we need to see Cole develop? I know Brian's sausage fingers are perfect for the job, but Cole can do everything else, why not milking? I see lots of footage for the bloopers reel in the making. Love you Cole. Just messing with you.
