I'm retired(40years of welding). I always did repair work. That's the best kind of welding. Your welds are ALWAYS awesome. working on heavy equipment never looks pretty. I worked with Dad for twenty years as auto painters, he taught me the business but wouldn't give me any time behind the spray gun until I left him for six months, that got his attention, when he asked me back I was no longer his help but an equal partner and spent more time behind the gun.Its hard to turn over the reigns, but how's one to learn if not by fire.

Hell it's even more reassuring for a tradesman (or tradeswoman) to be able to consult with other tradies because talking through some jobs can clarify your course of action and remind you of pitfalls that you may have overlooked. Those torch cuts are always so satisfying to watch! One of the things I love about this channel is the exposure to normal parts of life that I know nothing about and have never thought about. Of course this equipment wears down, and of course parts need to be replaced. But I never think about all of that. If you had asked me what happens when a tooth broke off a bucket before this video, I'd barely understand the question let alone know the answer. Thanks for bringing to light these aspects of the world that are common for some folks, and completely unknown to folks like me!

I had to do a few of those bucket teeth repairs when I worked for my dad's construction company, his policy for his sons was, you break it you fix it. Those bucket teeth are under a huge amount of pressure, especially the corner teeth. Like you said, scarfing off the whole tooth and replacing it with a new one is a lot of work, you did a great job on that, mine always looked a little cross-eyed when I was done.🤣🤣
When I worked at EB Groton CT. I did HY-80 steel [hull] ex-ray repairs on the Los Angeles class subs. We would have to heat it to min. 200' before welding the HY-80 using either 1/8" or 3/32" 110-18 flux coated wire or MIG depending on the position and size of the repair, now I think they are all HY-100 steel. Another good instructional video about the welding trade.
As long as it's only buckets and schedules getting wrecked, I'm all for letting operators go bananas; it keeps you busy and makes for great content besides.

I did pick up a trick when you were scarfing and beveling with the torch, you were raising the flame up and down the first pass, then the second pass, doing a smooth pull.....thank you Issac, Paul over in Florida
Nice repair! There’s always something that seems to pop up at the most inconvenient time, who would have expected a machine to quit working. Through all of that you still made it happen and turned over a solid repair.
I repaired one of those that was never used. it was a bad casting with big cracks that appeared after shipping to customer, and I had to completely remove it, and replace it. it must have been 3 inches of weld that I had to carbon-arc through!
Alot of welders focus only on the the welding part. Very few are real good with a torch. Torch work can almost break you or make you. 40 yrs experience I say learn the torch and get really good with it. Practice, practice. Great video my man.
nice work and i see before your machine went down you were using those round carbons there good for gouging generally but if you want to bevel get some 3/8 flat carbons arcair makes them and your torch has a cutout in the jaws just for the flats they make a nice flat bevel and their great for knocking off the goobers and snots from tacks and cuts offs and knocking down high spots always keep a box on the truck along with the round ones i always have used the licoln innersheild wires nr211, nr212 and the nr311 havent used hobart in years guess ill try a coil but i always used the bigger wire like .068 and 5/64 they just fill faster and you turn me on to the longer goosenrck on your gun always just used the k126 gun with shorter 45 degree neck now i save on burning up my gloves . waiting on your next repair
I find that the NR211 wires are crack sensitive. Good wires though. and i jumped back down to .045 from .068. It was sometimes too hard to carry in all positions. I'll have to look into the flat carbons and see how well they work.
I really enjoy watching your vid's. I was a farm boy welder at 12. My welds look like shot but usually work. I'm 67 now and still welding anytime I get a chance. Yeah I use a lot of flapdisks.
I haven't seen you in a while is that your son I used to see in previous videos. Wonderful to see a father - son business so important to pass on the skills to your family. I hope you instill in him that this kind of work is highly skilled just like a college degree and can pay the same or perhaps even better. Being your own boss is a good thing too. In an ideal world you would have a new spare to cut and replace and your machine wouldn't have decided it wanted a trip to the repair guy . Hopefully something simple and not a huge expense . Since I don't have an arc gouger, it was better to have seen you do this with the torch. I bought that same torch two years ago when I saw you using one on that CAT boom repair. The only thing I need to get is that giant rose bud or whatever it's called to be able to apply more heat. The only thing left is to practice more with both. Thanks for another lesson.

Sorry the machine went down, but at least you had the torches to get prep work done and a spare at home! Some days just aren't easy... but your end product looked fantastic. Nice glue job
Had to glue a few on before. I always use 8018c3 pre and post heat, and watch inter pass. You seem to do well though with 21b (awesome wire) and bare wire in unconventional places! The ones I’ve done were on larger buckets in rock too.

I’m only a hobbyist occasional welder, with dreams of making newer low voltage front walkway lights. Easy ? Compared to this heavy duty welding. Thickest I’ve welded is my 1/4” fab block table and additional supports for a shelf. Added 1/4” plate to my other plasma cutting table and got to see Spray Arc welding from the side with the cone spread out all sweet like. Love my Miller Multimatic 255 and wished I bought the Miller Synchrowave 210 instead of the Lincoln Tig200
It's always nice to see someone else get a Root Canal, hope the customer has dental coverage. Too bad the Miller took a crap, time for Lincoln to step-up to the plate, lol.
