The state-of-the-art Neo RFK Stadium is the perfect venue for Old Glory DC of the MLR, the Washington Commanders (formerly Redskins) of the NFL, and the DC Defenders of the UFL.

@@TyrellDunn nah its not. The new ownership group would want a stadium that has more than 70k seats that is more state of the art than these other new nfl stadiums. Tax payers i believe aren’t gonna wanna foot their portion of the bill to build that stadium. That whole area would have to be redeveloped. The dc jail has to go, the c-pep psyche ward has to go, whatever is left of dc general hospital, GONE, and theyd have to reconfigure the traffic system to handle the large influx of fans and residents traveling in that area. Depressed ginger said something about putting restaurants on them islands right under the east capitol bridge. Do you really think restaurant patrons wanna see brown murky water in the anacostia river my dude??? Theyd have to find the funds and some solution to significantly clean the anacostia river because its been polluted and disgusting for more than 20 years bro. Plus dc is in debt and with plans to renovate capital one arena its gonna put em further in the hole. Im from dc and know the rfk site area well! Doesnt make sense to me to build a stadium in that area. Put it some place else like near the national harbor in oxon hill md…

The stadium should be at the old RFK site for a huge variety of reasons. There is easy public transit access, it would create a unique urban gameday enviornment, the historical significance of playing at the site, etc. I just assumed it was greed and the possibility of taxpayer funding that would lead them elsewhere.

The Potomac Yards site that Ted Leonsis wanted had no chance, ironically it was the third attempt to build a Stadium or Arena on that site, first was the proposed Jack Kent Cooke Redskins stadium in 1992, then it would have been the home of a Nothern Virginia Baseball team called the Virigina Fury in the Mid 90s MLB expansion that got Arizona and Tampa Bay team and then this.

  • @amoses11

@depressed ginger: i challenge u to go to RFK Stadium and just tour that entire area like u did for the browns new stadium site and posted that video. I am from Washington dc born and raised and i know that area of RFK just as well
as any other native washingtonian. Theres simply not enough room to build a new state of the art stadium with ample parking! Now if the new REDSKINS ownership group makes it happen, then good for them. But it just doesnt make sense to me to put a new state of fhe art stadium right near residential homes and apartments, A FREAKING JAIL, DC Armory, former hospital that is being used as a homeless shelter, and a mini psyche ward, and the temporary site where department of public works is housed and parks their trash collection trucks(i used to work for dc department of public works.). Now last time i was home, they were redeveloping the area but my question is how would they reconfigure the area so it can handle the shitload of traffic going to and from those games plus the residents living in that area getting too and from their homes? Where are the bars and restaurants going to be thats right there near the new stadium??? Plus that circular interchange that loops around the stadium to get to and from dc 295 is already hell. Imagine what it’ll be like on game days? These are questions that need to be taken into consideration. You should go see the area for yourself to understand that its no room to build a new stadium

I prefer Poplar Point for the new stadium! RFK is cool if it has to be that, but only as a second choice! It's just that Poplar Point is smaller! Overall, Poplar Point is just a better spot in so many categories except space. Nonetheless, it's a D.C. team and it belongs in D.C.. Maryland has its team, and Virginia is irrelevant! They have no team and do not need our team! Those people don't even like D.C., but always wanna take something from D.C.. They need to stay secluded as they like to be. Other than that, people need to go to Poplar Point to understand why it's the best spot. It's literally where a stadium belongs. RFK is cool, but more can be done with Poplar Pointe, like a boat pier for ferries to bring VA people over. That would help with the parking since it's smaller than RFK. You can't put a pier at RFK simply bcuz it's north of the CSX train bridge, and only small boats can pass under. A pier of ferry drop off is mandatory bcuz the other two stadiums, which happens to be right next to Poplar Point, both have ferry drop-offs! It's also right next to the new South Capitol Street Bridge. It's right next to the river. It's directly off the freeway, and in-between two freeways vs. the one way in from one freeway at RFK. It's right across the river from all the high rise apartments and the two stadiums, which means these people already are used to sports traffic, unlike RFK! Then, not to mention, there are no apartments in the Poplar Point side, except the one building being built. It's also right in-between two train stations and a third nearby, vs. the one station at RFK. It would also be a much better view from the freeway with the open space, and can be seen from both directions vs. being seen from one direction at RFK, unless you look for it. You might even be able to see the Capitol kinda right behind it, but likely only from the freeway. Overall, it just fits the city skyline scenery at Poplar Pointe. They can even redesign the two roundabouts that they built for the new bridge, and sit the stadium directly in the middle, right in front of the bridge, and then reroute the roundabouts into one large roundabout to go around the stadium and then straight to the bridge behind the stadium. Then, Poplar Point can be used for all parking, etc! If they didn't procrastinate so much, they could have done all of this at the same time as the bridge and not have put that one apartment building that's being built right now, and used that space, too! Then, for extra parking, build garages upward. This would be the best place to see a large dome. It wouldn't even distract those peaceful residents over near RFK who has only that one route to get home from the freeway. Everything around Poplar Point is already lively and not quiet typical residential areas like RFK! A lot of cities put all of their stadiums right next to each other, so why not here, too? IJS!
