Northern Virginia is not going to be the site of the Commanders new home as the cost of land there is outrageous. It’s all committed to very high cost development. Great for extreme price homes, office buildings bad for a stadium used only 9 to 10 times by the Commanders.

He was mistaken about the time-line that led to the name change. The pressure was first applied by a small group of native Americans who were ignorant of the history of the origin of the name and the logo because they wanted to be offended when no offense was ever intended, in fact the opposite was true. That predated 2020 and the George Floyd riots that ensued. The ultimate pressure came from Fred Smith the CEO of FedEx who was a minor owner and the naming sponsor of the stadium. Dan Snider betrayed the proud legacy of the franchise when he caved to that pressure.
First of all BLM is craziness, there has been billions donated to BLM and less than 10% of that money has gone to black communities, and all the BLM leaders from around the country all became rich out of nowhere. The whole thing turned into a corrupt clown show.
@@jeffpowell8308 He wasn’t mistaken about the time line at all, everyone knows that a tiny group of liberal native americans has been trying to get the name changed for years but the Redskins wouldn’t do it because they had several other Native American organizations fighting with them. It was during the George Floyd BLM riots that social pressure and financial pressure started happening Fed Ex is the Redskins biggest sponsor and they folded to the social pressure and told the Redskins if they didn’t change the name they would back out of their sponsorship and a few other sponsors followed them. That was the only reason they changed the name was because of the financial pressure brought on by the social Justice movement from the BLM riots.
The name redskins is offensive and it had been talked about being offensive for years. But I had heard the logo was blessed by the tribe of the guy they modeled it after. So a good compromise would have been just to name them Washington or Washington FT and then just keep the logo. Teams don’t need official nicknames.
"Redskins" is in the dictionary as a slur. It meant "bloody Indian scalps" during a massive genocidal area. Plus, droves of American Indians protested it for longer than 26 years. If they sincerely view it as a slur against their culture, that is enough for a change. Not all American Indians take offense to "Redskins", but none of them will get negative impacts from its removal. Being named after a tribe would be better than "Redskins". Some examples: Washington Cayuse, Washington Jemez, Washington Pomo, Washington Pueblos.
I have a book about the 1972 team and in it they mention that a group of Native American activists met with Edward Bennett Williams and requested he change the name. He refused that but did have some of the lyrics to the fight song changed. There have been many articles over the years about Native Americans on both sides of the issue but the idea that there is only a controversy because of white liberals in recent years is completely false.
I’ve never understood the big uproar of changing the team names. It effects none of you one single bit. Who cares, I liked the Houston Oilers and their uniforms. It was changed and I didn’t die.
I always felt it was odd that, when it came down to political correctness, the most politically connected city had the most politically incorrect name! I could give up on Redskins if they could come up with a better name. Not sure what that better name is though. It's definitely not Commanders, and not Red Wolves either. Maybe something regional? IDK. Old Redskins logo really wouldn't make sense if they are staying away from being called Redskins. Could go with the same logo but the "R" in the circle ... or maybe not. IDK. Current logo looks like bent sheetmetal. Old RFK site is a sweet site to get back to, for multiple reasons. My $0.02.
Meet with Tribe councils establish a new connection and let the tribes pick a name that everyone can vote on. Can Neo RFK Stadium be rebuilt for the National Football League’s Washington Commanders(Redskins), Major League Rugby's Old Glory DC, and United Football League's DC Defenders since the original RFK Stadium and FedEx Field gets demolished in 2026-2030?
I always thought warriors would have fit could have kept the native theme.
i wish people weren’t so sensitive about things that they shouldn’t be. redskins was a great name with a great logo. i hope it comes back.
I can see them calling the stadium @ 8:38 "The Pringle"
The Washington Commanders sound like a bloody XFL team, aka the DC Defenders 😂 🏈
Northern Virginia is not going to be the site of the Commanders new home as the cost of land there is outrageous. It’s all committed to very high cost development. Great for extreme price homes, office buildings bad for a stadium used only 9 to 10 times by the Commanders.
If not the redskins, i liked the redtails or the hogs.
Hogs would offend PETA and probably Muslims.
I was lmao when he said “Whiteys” 😂
I don’t mind if they bring back the old logo & maybe change the name. Cuz the old logo is iconic.
The Chiefs chant/cadence should’ve been in the spotlight 😂😭
If the logo is return and the name should change, then its name should be Warriors. It was suppose to be that name and not Commanders, that name wasn’t trademarked at all!
sediment or sentiment?
Id love a new rfk stadium
Warriors or Generals would be good names.
Not 'Generals' IMO, but only because the Washington Generals are a basketball team that serves as an opponent for the Harlem Globetrotters, and usually lose to the latter.
@@joeylawn36111 I forgot about that. I think Warriors would probably be the best choice.
@@ACLawrence476Can’t use that name either Golden State Warriors own the trademark.
@@timothyholland2927they probably wouldn’t use Warriors anyway given from what I’ve read. Some consider that offensive too. Some think it’s to close to a Native American reference.
REDWOLVES WOULD ROCK
MAKE THE NAME REDWOLVES!!!!!!😀🏈
Would love to see the name Redskins return. But I doubt it. However may I suggest the washington warriors
The Football Team was the greatest name ever
More news on my Commanders 😁
Just bring back the Redskins name as well because the name was never named for racial reasons, it was named after a tribe in the area.
❤ Read wolves definitely and the old logo one.💯🏆🏈❤️
Why is it "craziness" when you speak of "Black Lives Matter"?
I didn't understand why he brought up black lives matter in the first place they had nothing to do with the name change
@@brianwhite6861well it happened during the George Floyd protests. I am not saying it was because of that
First of all BLM is craziness, there has been billions donated to BLM and less than 10% of that money has gone to black communities, and all the BLM leaders from around the country all became rich out of nowhere.
Change the name to Warriors and bring back that old logo would be perfect i think the W W could work
Yes!!
If we're gonna come back with the logo we might as well come back fully with the name as well. If not. Just don't come back at all
I’ve never understood the big uproar of changing the team names. It effects none of you one single bit. Who cares, I liked the Houston Oilers and their uniforms. It was changed and I didn’t die.
Yet the Chiefs and the Seminoles got to keep their names
Bring back the Cleveland Indians
The Commies will never bring back the old racist logo, despite the rumor that it was created by a Native American.
Perhaps they should rebrand to the Senators, as a nod to the old pre-1972 MLB franchise
My $0.02.
Stallions (keeping the Colts DMV legacy alive), Sentinels (after the movie The Replacements) Warriors make sense or maybe the Red Knights will do
Meet with Tribe councils establish a new connection and let the tribes pick a name that everyone can vote on.
The logo was never a problem from the vast majority - neither was the name really if you look at the american indians numbers opinions on it. = thats why you never had hundreds of protesters at Washington / Chiefs games in hot bed majority tribal areas eg Arizona.
Keep logo - let the tribes pick a few team names = let everyone vote on the final team name?
Eagles fan here, bring back the Skins.
Washington Football Team in Maryland
#OhGoodnessMeHere!
Lol, no way, they might get a new name and logo, which they should, wash their hands of Snyder
Either Original Name Boston BRAVES 1932 or Go back to Washington Football Team......I think we all liked it!!
DG wants to **CANCEL** the commanders?
Just use the real name of a tribe & nobody will get upset, just like FSU does. Washington Wampanoags with the old logo sounds perfect to me
The day the commanders change their name back to the Redskins and return to their original logo is the day I buy a jersey
