This issue is very hard to understand and the report doesn't make it clear. All I know is I took a Lyft from downtown MPLS to the airport and it was $29. The Lyft driver told me he gets $13 from that, or about 45%. I added $7 tip, so he is over 50%. And he earned that $20 in 20 minutes. If he turns around at the airport he could easily make $40 in one hour. So what are we talking about here? $40 per hour is very good. The city council is saying his "wage" is not high enough. Uber and Lyft say he isn't even an employee but is a business owner who buys their services (no one forces him to drive for them). So what are we talking about here?
I make $250 an hour cutting gated communities lawns. Why do people complain about lower pay when they cut other peoples grass? I don’t get it.
You don't drop and pick up at the Airport. There is a line of cabs. You have expenses as an owner operator. Fuel, vehicle price, and maintenance. Taxis were getting $2.75 per mile. Technically, Uber is a ride share system. The rates were not designed to make a living on. It is supposed to be a p.t. job to make a couple bucks.
@@MinnesotaManiaif you own the service, then yes, $250.00 an hour, it covers the equipment and expenses then. I doubt anyone would pay a lawnmower jockey 250 an hour.
@@ninov6512 Have you been on a train or bus lately? I'm sure having a couple of suitcases while riding the rails won't make you a target. As for greed, no one is forcing drivers to work for Uber or Lyft so stop with your "corporate greed" stupidity. There are plenty of jobs if people don't want to drive. Lastly, I don't think the original post was worried about his $29.00.
Says the corporate shill
Just curious. If both the City Council and State legislators feel they know best are trying to pass laws as to what Uber and Lyft can and will be paying their drivers why did neither of these 2 circuses ask Uber and Lyft for their imput? Did they ask them to come to the negotiating table? No! Why did the City Council have to push their plan before the MnDOT evaluation come out? They couldn't even wait 1 more day for the evaluation to come out.
Are they still leaving.
It’s about license taxis have to be licensed and pay the state for the license and they were limited not sure if are now the state not getting their cut and lobbyists for Taxis companies it’s cutting into their profits
It is not "ride share" it is "ride hail." Share is what the Uber & Lyft companies want to call it.
Why is no one listening to the states that have had disasterous consequences to Uber/Lyft leaving for just ONE year?
Good day for workers rights
Like CA, the central-planners that came up with this will find that higher minimum wages mean fewer people working as people find less costly alternatives
