losing your dad us one of the hardest things a person has to go through. I lost lost my dad when I was 14, he died in Vietnam. I still remember very well that time and what I went through. Condolences and hoping you are able to work your way through your loss.
I appreciate your kind words, I'm working though it and I'm alright. My condolences to you as well, that's a whole different trip you had/are having to deal with.
I'm considering buying an XT Touring. I love the interior. This review kinda says all I want to hear. Thanks. I know it was a little while ago but I am sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. Losing a parent is difficult.
I sell Subarus currently in Northern California. I drive a 2012 Toyota Corolla with 150K miles on it that I've owned long before I started working for Subaru. I kid you not, it has NEVER burned a drop of oil between oil changes. Just keeps chugging along year after year with no problems. It's paid for and I don't have to deal with the crazy high car payments that exist in this crazy market.
I have a 2013 Legacy 2.5i Premium. It burned oil until 30,000 miles and stopped completely. It has had two headlights replaced, one interior map light bulb, and one battery. It has 96,000 miles today and runs, drives and acts like a brand new car. My only aftermarket pops were, up grading to the 225/50/17 of the 3.6R car for better ride quality, some ralley mud flaps, as snow and ice was scratching the clear coating, and got tinted windows. This car gets some spirited driving all the time, no clicks tics or rattles. I'll drive it into the ground, and probably cry, as I'll never find one as reliable and a pleasure to drive.
Nice synopsis of Subarus in general and your year report. Currently have a 21 Outback and 21 Crosstrek; both premium trims. Both cars have been very reliable all things considered. Crosstrek has only needed maintenance. The Outback has had its radio updated several times and has its passenger seat base replaced for creaking when someone sits in it. Can totally relate to having a car be attached to negative life events. Our previous car was like that. The Escape was nothing but problems plus there were happenings in our family. Couldn’t wait to get rid of it.
Thanks for the analysis of all the Subarus that either you or your immediate family have owned. In the near future, I’m planning on getting a Legacy XT. I currently own a Crosstrek with the somewhat sluggish 2.0 engine, and I like it for its versatility, but it’s just way too underpowered for me. Lastly, my condolences to you and your family.
That's Sierra Tan Nappa Leather, exclusive to the Legacy XT Touring. If you get the Outback Touring they're a little darker, they call that the Java Brown Nappa Leather.
@@CarDietrich yep! The legacy touring has the same option! I currently have 2012 Honda Accord with over 150k miles on it... The seats are uncomfortable and my shoulder blade has basically poked a hole through the cloth and it now rests on a metal bar 🙃 I'm 6 foot 5 and about 290. But I just love sedans. They're so fun to drive
Own a 2022 Touring XT. I hate hate hate the 11.6 infotainment screen the most, randomly glitches, the screen goes black and on and loses presets. Eyesight rattles and so does the sunroof. At approximately 720 miles it developed a oil sensor leak and the oil pan needed to be resealed as well. Not happy since we owned 3 other Subaru that’s still in the family with zero issues.
I bought a 1998 outback limited new and drove it for 18 years. Had to replace timing belt , tensioner and water pump all at the same time. That was recommended. It develop the dreaded leaks but the car never left me stranded. Always passed emission test . The car looked good , no tears in the leather. Got 1500 for it on a trade in.
I still drive my 1998 Legacy station wagon, 2.5 AT AWD, air suspension . 250 k miles on it, no repairs, just strictly regular maintenance. Great car. 🙂
I have a 2022 suburu legacy and I love it. The infotainment screen is ehh ok I guess. It looks fine and is easy for me to use, it just seems to be based on outdated software. Like a 2022 with 2016 tech. Besides that drives great and the interior with comfy black leather is awesome
I have my 2020 Subaru Legacy XT Touring for about three years now and I agree with you. No issues. I had the same windows glitch and took it to the Subaru dealership, fixed it. I was told it’s due to debris inside the door. I feel safe when driving this car. My only complaint is the seats. I consider it not comfortable for a long ride.
Had the same issue with my battery and subaru paid for an aftermarket one. I also hate the driver monitoring system. Otherwise, I love it. So smooth and comfortable and has been a gem at 60k miles thus far. Built so much better than my Corp car, a 2022 Sonata. It's my 3rd legacy and have been very happy overall.
Depends on how often you’re actually going to see snow. If it’s only a couple times a year and it’s not a large amount, then it probably doesn’t matter too much
At that point you’re better off getting a regular FWD Honda or Toyota with a set of good snow tires. AWD is awesome, I used to have it on a Subaru Impreza. But I now have a FWD Honda with snows and it works perfectly fine and safe for me in upstate New York. You’re not gunna be going out in a blizzard but if it’s in a pinch and there’s snow, you’ll at least make it from A to B lot safer. I would only recommend AWD if you are in heavy snow areas where you’re dealing with it 24/7.
I have 2024 Legacy XT touring and i have 15.000 miles on after 5 months and only thing i had wrong with it was they had to replace they rear suspension. Im planning to drive that car to the ground. I do oil changes every 5.000 miles
I tested Legacy XT white/brown. I liked it but didn't love it either. Didn't love that CVT but went into negotiations with dealer but their shenanigans pissed me off. Went to Toyota and got a Camry XSE V6.
I also have a 2021Legacy Touring XT (bought it June 2021). It has just under 11K miles on it. At 5K miles I took it in for its first oil change. The tech discovered it had oil "seepage" spreading out from around the oil pan. Apparently it's a common problem with the new 2.4 turbo engine. It was at the dealer for a week and a half waiting on the repair kit to reseal it (supply chain issues). The other problem isn't serious, but irritating. The dash and eyesight camera assembly has four different rattles. On the rough surface streets in my area it makes quite a lot of racket. The tech has confirmed them, but can't seem to chase down and fix the sources. I've had it in three times trying to get those damned rattles fixed. Needless to I'm a bit disappointed. I was expecting better from a top trim of a midsize car that had a MSRP of $38,000. The interior is beautiful, but the rattles just yell "cheap" and spoil it for me. Yeah, I think this will be the first and last Subaru for me.
I have a 21 legacy limited xt. 93,000 miles on it now. Still has the factory tires and brakes. Getting ready to replace tires within the next few weeks. Couple things i dislike about the car. The eye sight camera cover/sunroof control rattles. I tried a few different thing to stop it from rattling but never did fix it. Just ignore it now. The back of the hood flutters at highway speeds. The cvt programming is terrible. You go to pass someone and let off the gas the transmission acts as if its in to low of a gear and rev hangs terrible, even though there is no gears. Took it to dealer and was told its working properly. Test drove several other xt legacys...same outcome. Driver side window intermittently wont roll up. Usually when it rains is when the problem shows up. Have not cleaned the window tract yet, have read about this being a common problem. Of course the usual driver monitor and auto start having to be shut off after every restart. I also turn off the front collision....it is so violent when it activates. Pick up vehicles that have already turned onto another road. Other then that no real complaints. I get 30-31 mpg. Thats with 2 grown men and work cloths etc for a week.
Honest answer is ok but not flawless. Some of them have had issues. The harsh truth is that in general automatic transmissions these days aren't super reliable long term. They have become so complex, they're either CVTs or dual clutches or 8 or 9 or 10 gears, they just won't last as long as the old ones did on average
Well between a Civic and this Legacy XT, probably the Legacy. Although truth be known since I made this video I got a 2023 Acura Integra A-Spec Tech 6MT that I like quite a bit, so I’d point you in that direction since the Integra is a hatch
Not a stupid question, I actually ended up doing that! It did mostly solve the problem, but in certain light conditions that infra-red camera could actually see through the electrical tape, so it would still beep at me sometimes. Anyway I sold that car to CarMax seven months ago so it’s someone else’s problem now
I agree with you that I have failed to gain insight into long term reliability, but my sample size is much larger than most so my information still holds relevance
I have a 2021 legacy xt. Got 60,000 miles on it now. Will have around 80,000-100,000 by the end of the yr. I hit a deer last yr at 60 mph. $9,000 damage. Got it fixed, so far so good. Couple of things that have bugged me from day 1. The plastic eye sight covers rattle like crazy. Driver monitor is annoying. If back seats are occupied, seat belt must be on or the dinging will drive you nuts. The hood, the back of it near the windshield flaps in the wind like a flag at highway speeds. Oem hood and now this hood...both do did/do it.
Exactly, Subaru is screwing over some super loyal customers by ditching the STI and releasing the very unappealing WRX. We also have an Outback with the huge infotainment screen and it freezes/resets a lot, very annoying. We'll take a look at other makes next time.
You buy a new car and this shit burns every 1000 miles 1 quart oil and i have to add every 3 times when i put some gas oil too :D It's not ok and these brands have to make some reliable engines. What is the point when they say " Hey, every 7000 miles new oil and filters" but i ve added to this happen already 7 liters of oil :(
God bless you all ! if you need anything in life always look to God ! Prayer is communication with God , and communication is key in a healthy relationship! Jesus loves you all so much ! don’t forget to read your bible today !! have a blessed day !!💗
I could never recommend a CVT Subaru to anyone. The well documented failures are horrendous and if it goes out of warranty.. You'll scrap the car. Much better options out there folks👍

Thank you Judi. The XT Touring is a very nice car.
One thing I like about the Subarus is that their front head rests are not as intrusively tilted forward as other brands.

My 2012 Honda Accord is the same way 😂 uncomfortable as hell, but it keeps kerchunking along

The BEST Subaru review on RUclips, nothing close to it.

Those pandemic era cars from every manufacturer and OEM supplier had looser QC unfortunately, so expect some rattles and minor QOL stuff
I’m up to 100k on my ‘21 outback 2.5, no oil consumption. I’m religious on maintenance

Oh I was expecting you to talk about the 2021 Subaru Legacy XT
My wife has a 19 forester with 50k miles. Original battery 🔋
crown vic for the win!

@@CarDietrich The only concern I have on the Honda models is the CVT. I decided on the Honda. I'll see how it does in one year.
Well the Legacy has a CVT too, so tomato/tamoto
Maybe a stupid question about the driver face camera,
Why don’t you cover it with a piece of the electric tape?

I did use synthetic oil in that car. The factory recommended 0W-20 for that engine, which only comes as full synthetic
You don't really keep any of them long enough for anything serious to go wrong.
I want to know reliability after 7+ years or 80k+ miles of ownership
