My 50's Road Worn Stratocaster | 3 Years on

- This is my 50's spec road worn Fender Stratocaster MIM bought in 2018 but do i still love it?
I have changed the Tex-Mex pickups for Porter custom vintage pickups which give it a chimey strat sound rather than added grit through the amp, it also now has a synthetic bone nut, new road worn knobs and pick guard and has been professionally set up by Fat Cat Custom Guitars.
The 7 1/4" radius neck isn't for everyone but it works for me, it also has a great nitro finish which means it'll wear nicely over the years and the vintage tuning keys and saddles give it an authentic look.
My favourite guitar of all time, my number on as they say.
Cheers for watching

Great video from several angles. It’s always good to hear a player detail their journey to get a guitar playing to what they hear in their head. I would describe the tone of that axe as Uber- strat like.
Great Jimi tone as well. Cheers!
Cheers as always for the comment! Really appreciated
I left my pickup covers and tone/vol dials in coffee for 2 days and they came out looking great.
I’ve heard that works really well, cheers!
Nice work on the Strat. I dig how you attack issues first on your own to learn. I’ll take that as my lesson from your video. I press too hard as well, and I’m working on that too. Keep up the great work!Cheers Mate!
Thanks mate! i always like to have a go first, had to take this in to a luthier though, he did a great job, and i'm still working on the pressing too hard, i think about it a lit now when i'm playing, cheers
Glad to see you back!
Thanks! life got in the way, but i have a few interesting ones lined up
That is a really cool guitar! I never tried one of the Road worn Strats but I tried to tele a couple years back and loved it! Good video as always Derek!
Thanks man! really appreciate that, i have a soft spot for road worns and relics, cheers
Bought in ‘74, it’s a ‘64. A pre-CBS Telecaster. I could have bought a ‘57 but prefer the slimmer neck. Have a safe and healthy holiday season, great channel you have!

Thank you! And man that does sound fantastic! You have a happy and healthy holiday too, cheers!
I think it's a great guitar. I'd be happy. Good to see you popping up on Amazon when I'm pedal window shopping! And lovely Wind Cries there!
Thanks David! I didn’t realise I popped up anywhere :) and thanks for the compliment (I tried even though I have a numb pinky and ring finger) exercises should fix it hopefully, cheers
@@DerekPaulGuitar Yeah the pedal people have grabbed you! Darn, and no royalties! Hope they send you more pedals. I had a hand exercise thing for years that helped development for barring at least. Maybe worth a try?
@@davidsillars3181 yeah where’s my royalties! ;) I have an exercise I’m doing, I have cubital tunnel (a trapped nerve) so I’m hoping it buggers off soon!
Excellent!!! All my support ad best vibes!
Cool video! Good playin’! Question: Did it become any more road worn in the three years you had it? Did they relic areas become more so? Or did it stay the same?
Thank you! Appreciate that, it became a little more worn as I played it (but I played it a LOT over that time)
I once bought a guitar with jumbo frets. It seemed out of tune until I changed the 9 gauge strings out for 10s. I'm currently playing bass in a band now so, needless to say, I'm never expected to be in tune.
Haha thanks for the comment
Don’t like roadworn. My Tele was bought in 1974 and every scratch and nick has a memory.
Your Strat sounds great though!
Man I bet that’s an amazing tele! Been looking myself for a 70’s tele or strat, cheers for the comment!
