I got a roadworn 60s strat today and I love it. Good to know that it's actually full nitro instead of a poly undercoat.. Rock on brother.

Wonderful video. These were all the points I wanted to know, thanks for sharing!
Also, really great job on getting all the facts right. You’d be surprised (prob not) how much misinformation and senseless rumours float around regarding these and the whole aging topic.

Had a 50s Roadworn years ago and sold it. I've regretted it ever since.

The story of my RW 50s is that the previous owner replaced the neck with a nitro lacquer neck from the Classic series and I wanted a more worn feel on the neck so I sanded it... The body is reliced to hell- the story there is the previous owner was trying to relic the cap out of it and went overboard... In the end all I really care is that his thing feels and sounds great to me. Very enjoyable video.

I love the feel of a worn in guitar and I defend the relicing as an asthetic choice, but some people definitely go overboard. That's their taste. As long as you aren't trying to pass it off as legitimate vintage, who cares? Make it your own. As long as you love it, nobody can tell you otherwise.

Great video, excellent points. My lovely wife says you should make your own marks in the guitar, and I try to explain why the poly on my 50s classic vibe probably won’t ever look like that, but she doesn’t play guitar or much care really, so I just let it go.I have just ordered the 50s Vintera road worn Strat in surf green. I cannot wait for it to arrive!

Well, if Fender offered the Road Worn series without the wear, I'd probably buy that. My RWs are already getting marked up as it is. But I don't mind the pre-wear at all. Still seems weird for people to get so caught up in it.

@@diyguitarists5069 If my memory serves me correctly, they made Vintera guitars without the wear, and that's what this is. You'd be all set! As for the wear, personally, I like it. It feels good, comfortable, and it makes me pick it up and play and that's what matters most.

@@astewart9410 Sort of. There was never a clean road worn strat, but there was a nitro version of the classic series in candy apple red. It had vintage frets though (I can't stand vintage frets). And the clean Vinteras are poly. I like the worn version a lot, but I would also like a clean version. Never can please us guitarists. We want everything.

@@diyguitarists5069 Of course we do! You'll find your axe. Gotta admit, this Road Worn is my first actual Fender, my first nitro finish, my first 50s spec guitar with that neck shape... it took me right out of my Classic Vibe comfort zone and woke me up! Love it.

Is the neck nitro as well? I keep hearing people say the neck on the RW is poly. I have a 2017 RW strat just like yours, and I think my neck is nitro

    • @circaSG07

yes, the neck has a poly finish. the vintera road worn series have a lacquer neck AND body finish.

Poly but it might be so bare it won't matter will it

@@mig1059 you are right, but I'm actually having my neck sanded and redone in Nitro. It's going to have a nice amber color and be more vintage correct
