    I have a 1989 MIJ 57 reissue in the same colour scheme. There’s no problem with the vintage neck radius and the pickups are excellent. And they work to about the same price as these if you calculate inflation. They could have been less vintage correct with the position of the truss rod adjustment, though .....

  • @patricklundquist9869

    Not a 50's vintage spec but I bought a Fender MIM Player Strat, cherryburst with flame maple cap for $250 yesterday. I'm pulling out the HSS pickups and pick guard. Cutting a new pick guard with volume knob relocated forward between neck and middle pickup and farther from strings yet close enough for volume swells. Reason? Like millions of strat players, I'm sick and tired of accidentally hitting the volume knob and turning the volume down during the big solo. Add $81 for a Vintera pickup set and Bob's you uncle.

    I have a Classic Player Strat. Mexican. Modern appointments are 2 point bridge, 9.5” radius neck, locking tuners and 5 way switch with different wiring on pos 4 (bridge and neck together).
    Classic wise there’s a soft V neck, 21 frets, single ply scratch plate, ‘57/‘62 Custom Shop designed pickups and its 50s Shoreline Gold.
    I’m not a start player at all. Gibson’s and Tele shut me way better. But I love the Classic Player Strat. The soft V neck suits me way bettter than normal Strat necks.

  • @cgavin1
    @cgavin1 4 года назад +2

    Hands down the best strat for the money is the Classic Series and the new Vintera series. I have two 70's Classic (one of the first ones ever made in 1999 and a 2008) and they are superb strats. The wood selection is not as nice as US for the necks. That's it. Like literally. Only thing I have changed on both is the trem springs to Raw Vintage. I paid £250 for the 2008 and £325 a few years later (winflation) for the '99. Both superb guitars, never going to need another strat ..
    The pre-2004 Classics have a period-correct neck, with a pronounced shoulder and wider nut width. The post-2004's have a really nice U shaped neck corresonding narrow nut. Fits your hand like a glove. Both are excellent in their own way. The former is better for getting around on, the latter is perfect for rhythm playing.
    Only criticism I hear of these is that the pickups are too 'trebly'. Ok. Well. If you think that Fat 50's sound 'vintage' you're a muppet. Is all. And no you don't need to faff with the wiring. If the bridge is too sharp, roll of the volume to 9. Problem solved. Oh and its II II on the springs. Decked. Thank me later..

    Great stuff Chris. These V shaped necks with period f/b radius and frets have been around, I believe , for many years. I think they appeared on the ‘50’s Strat and the Jimmy Vaughan sig model. Along with those there’s the Clapton sig model with the same build. It would be interesting to know if their coming off the same CNC machine either in Mexico or US. I really like this neck and have used it on two partscasters. This is an amazingly great guitar for the money.

    The Vintera sounds great Chris but at the price point especially the one with the S1 switching you could pick up a really decent second hand American Strat which would sound great and not depreciate as much through time . I’ve played a Fender Player and didn’t think it was as good as the old Mexican standard Strat even although they have ceramic pickups . I have a 2000 Deluxe Strat which I bought second-hand with noiseless pickups and it didn’t cost anywhere near the price of a Vintera .

    I have a 52 reissue tele. Quite like the 7.25 but it does ‘choke out’ when I bend more than a full step. Perhaps that’s the set up I have or maybe me. I just compensate and play that guitar differently. Chris seems to bend more than a full step on this guitar though.
    The guitar I am most used to is a 9.5 radiusAmerican series strat. Gilmour Bends ahoy.
    Could just be my technique or set up with the 7.25 why it’s more of a fight. I hope it’s the latter.

      Damian Hillan when I level frets on a vintage style fingerboard. After levelling I then put tape very the 13th fret and between the b and a string I level at an angle. Which means the frets become ever so slightly lower towards the body end. In a way it creates a compound radius. But not so much that you see or feel it but it allows lower choke free bending.

  • @sale83

    They are just rebranded classic series. Mexico started making really good guitars from 2006-present. Classic, classic player, roadworn, some sifnatures, even standards( when they upraded trem block and pickups) so no doubt that they are good and that they sound well. On the other hand new american original has become something like a first gen of avri 57-62 hot rods, but with regular pickups(it now has 9,5 radius, thinner coat of paint, softer v neck etc) I have avr's and one mexican strat, while mim isn't that "perfect" as them, it sounds and feels great(with some tweaks and fretwork of course).
    But what I don't understand anymore, is fender's custom shop. Every god damn guitar, that they make now, has some "relic", to show how "worn" they are, from all those buckles no one ever wears, dings from the gigs they never had, from the road they never went to. Just stupid and retarded. Are they making guitars today so that you hang them on the wall and lie to yourself and people, if they ever car eat all, how big of a rock star you once were or is it made to be played? Want a relic, buy an old guitar, or do your own "relic" by using the damn thing 10+ years.

      I may be wrong, but I’m pretty sure the bridge pup is wired to the bottom tone. I have an inexpensive set of Alnico 5 pups in my ‘91 MIM strat, and the bridge actually sounds great wide open. It’s bright, but not like a regular bridge. I also have passive treble bass controls so I can cut highs with the top tone and bass with the bottom. If I’m too bright on the bridge, I simply roll some high end off. If I’m too muddy on the neck, cut bass.

    I’ve had and sold a 1978 USA Strat, now own a 2011 FSR USA and can’t gel with it, despite setting it up to perfection, you have to really work at it to make it sing. I loved my 78, but it lacked that vintage tele sound. I know the 78 had an Ash body, quite heavy. I’m a lefty, so it’s hard to try out variations of the Strat, but I think I may try out a Squire CV or something with 50’s spec, these days the quality of cheaper guitars are close to the high end ones made in the USA. One day I’ll find that perfect Strat. You certainly did this variant justice, one worth trying for sure. You must have had your fair share of Strats?

      Maybe buy a vintera 70s strat... I'm a big fan of the natural colour one (I haven't played one, just seen one, but you could try one at a store. -they look EXTREMELY accurate to original due to the correct neck profile, pickups, lacquer, bullet truss rod, strange neck plate and all as well as maple fingerboard for the natural one

      Linus Blaney You must of read my mind, I must of been sleeping on it as when I woke up, I had a flash memory of the Ventera range. Finding a store stocking left handed ones will be a challenge, I assume you can get one left handed, I’ll check see what comes up. Thanks for the heads up, maybe it’s a blessing?

    Custom Shop specs. What the hell is that. Fender has become such a scam. What they want to do most is to sell their Squiers. That's where they make all their money. A $4,000 Telecaster seriously. And can you believe it people actually pay that much. So now they jacked up there Mexican guitars. Soon they will all be $1,500. $4,000 for a Telecaster!! I repeat.

    Do you need high action to avoid fretting out with 2 or 3 step bends with the 7.25 radius neck?

      Donald Parker how would high action help?

    • @donald-parker
      @donald-parker 4 года назад +1

      @@ryleyeaton7349 Because geometry. The higher the saddle, the greater the angle the string forms between the fret you are bending on and the saddle, which could offer more clearance to avoid fret out on the next higher fret.

      @ryleyeaton7349 4 года назад

      Donald Parker that makes sense never really even thought about that as simple as it is but I’ve also never had that problem. Speaking from experience tho I’ve only ever fretted out a couple times whilst bending and that was around the 15th fret mark. I assume a good setup with levelled frets is the key rather than higher action

      Its a big block but doesnt look like steel looks like pot metal, still adds loads of sustain along with the ash body. Wish it had a hardtail version

    Great value instruments but these aren't even in the same universe as your blue gray guitar or even the sound of your hwy 1 strat.....these vintage specs particularly the frets will absolutely disadvantage a young player. Bending and fretting notes is more difficult this is a matter of physics not opinion. Be warned if you're looking at these the frets will make demands on your playing you may not be used too.
