The flowers have (or should have) numbers on them (1,2,3,4). If you are the east seat during a particular game (you roll the dice), then the two 1 flowers give you one point each if you pick them up. No flowers at all is also one point. If you are the south seat, then your flower is 2, and so forth.
The flowers have 2 types Flowers and Seasons, ussually designated differently by color of the number on the flower, or if its in 1234 or 一二三四, or if the number is located on the top left/right corner. A set of seasons (all four of them) or flowers gains u 1 point aswell.
@EmilioIshigami I know this is 10 months later but I heard about this. It's pretty widespread on the web now. The problem is, that there are so few other places that offer online mahjong to the same degree. I think serious research should be done before joining what will turn out to be any online gambling site though. I'd love to find another good online based site that offered all the basic mahjong variants aka HK, Riichi, American, Taiwan, European, and so forth. I only free play though.
The aperture science enrichment center would like to remind you that the weighted companion cube will never beat you in Mahjong, in fact, it cannot speak.
If you make a kong don't you end up with an uneven number of tiles? I know you replace the tile that completed the kong but does it come out even so you can 'mahjong' with no left over tiles?
I'm not sure if this is Chinese or Hong Kong way, but I think people who gamble don't use the flower tiles because it's just for points, so the wall is 17 instead of 18. The way people gamble is the person who discard the winning tile pays double, while everyone pays single. If you play for $1, then person who discard pays $2 while everyone pays $1. However, if the winner is the dealer, everything is doubled. The person who discard the winning tile would pay $4 and everyone else pay $2. If the winner drew the winning tile, everyone pays $2, but if that person is dealer, everyone pays $4. You can play for like $2 as base or $10... but I think that's how they gamble.
When playing Mahjong you should always remember that there's no sense crying over every mistake -- you just keep on trying 'till you run out of cake :D
This does not look like Hong Kong MJ. It looks like Chinese MJ. In Hong Kong you have to pick your flower in order to make both chow and Kong's. At least that is the way I was taught.
awesome...these guys play so fast......now i need to get myself 3 friends
You re the only tutor taught mahjong so precise. Thanx for sharing
13 tiles. The winning hand is 14, as you will either self pick the winning tile or take it from a discard by another player.

It is more comfortable to play with a discard pile for each player, instead of a common discard zone.

there are several variations of mahjong depending upon the region it is from.

if you make a kan(4 of a kind) you will draw a tile from the dead wall, adding a bonus tile to your hand. in the end it will consist of 15 tiles.

This helps me a lot, thanks!
