Hoe-deopbap / Spicy Raw Fish Rice Bowl

  • This dish can be explained as Korean style poke or raw fish(sashimi) bibimbap. All the ingredients used in this bowl of bibimbap is uncooked, except for the rice. Prepare a few green leaves and your favorite sashimi (raw fish). The sweet, sour, and spicy gochujang sauce is perfect match with this rice bowl.

    Ingredients
    200g cooked rice
    130g assorted raw fish (halibut, salmon)
    70g green leaves
    1/2 tablespoon sesame oil
    1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds
    Sauce
    2 tablespoons gochujang
    2 tablespoons lemon juice
    1 tablespoon rice vinegar
    1/2 tablespoon brown sugar
    Instructions
    1. Combine gochujang, rice vinegar freshly squeezed lemon and sugar in a bowl. Mix until sugar is dissolved.
    2. Chop the lettuce. Cut the raw fish into bite size pieces.
    3. Place cooked rice in the bowl. Flatten the rice slightly. Put the vegetables and the fish on the rice. Add sesame oil and the sesame seeds before eating,
    - Optional: roasted seaweed can crushed, or cut into small pieces. Add just before eating.
    - Serve it with the sauce at the side.
    4. Add about one tablespoon of the sauce to the rice bowl and mix all together before eating.

    Love the dish. But there is very little about this that is Japanese in origin, which may be why you haven’t seen it in Japan. Other than chirashi or maybe some donburi with fish, I’m having a hard time coming up with something comparable. And even then, there’s no mixing of salad and sauce. Regardless, this looks amazing and maybe there SHOULD be more of it in Japan! ❤️

      Interesting opinion. I think it’s more like bibimbap because it’s all mixed when eating. Anyway I love chirashi!😉😊😍
