- After an incredible day in the Turkish low flying area we had the good fortune to be guests of the Turkish Air Force at Eskisehir Air Base for the second day of The 50th anniversary celebrations of the F-4E Phantom. The highlight of the day was an Elephant walk of ten phantoms from the base making their way down the runway. Enjoy the video albeit not to the usual high energy levels but still sight to behold.
If you've not seen it already then here's a link to the incredible low flying photo shoot on the first day

50 years strong. A testament to the Douglas Aircraft Corporation for producing quality and robust aircraft. And a major shout out to the Turkish Air Force for keeping these beauty's alive. Of course a super thank you Dafydd for once again making our day with excellence in bringing us the things we love to watch. AIR POWER!!
Thanks as always Scott 👍
Phantoms forever absolutely , It's great to see some of them still in service .
Correction : ''Phantom PHOREVER '' :)
incredible! Respects to the Turkish Air Force.
SUPERB....BRAVOOOOO TURCIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@flaviusalinoltean8381 thanks for watching.
The majestic and mighty F-4 still alive and ticking! Always looking like they're ready to start a fight. Such an awesome sight to see.
Ubiquitous
That’s true. As a friend of mine once said F4 looks real bad ass and it really means business when it comes to a fight
I had no idea there were that many operational F4's left! Very cool!
South Korea, Greece, turkey and Iran still use them. Thanks for watching 👍
Same here it's very cool but they wouldn't stand a chance. The Turkish F4 with the 50th anniversary paint scheme is a sight to behold.
@@DafyddPhillipsthey using for shows i think
@@id6113 Turkish F4s are being used in operations
@@id6113 You are so wrong mate 😊 These birds were extensively upgraded - the frame and the systems. They are one of the best long distance air to ground attack aircrafts. Being used to destroy air defence and underground armouries or any ground targets. And also have systems to defend themselves or attack to air targets.
Dafydd, THIS video cements the fact of why you're one of my favorite videographers, hands down. Those shots from those angles were just so good. I could smell the jet fuel! Those Turkish Air Force people take a lot of pride in their jets. You can see it. The F-4 is one of my favorite birds and between this and that awesome Mach Loop run, I was like a little kid watching an air show!
Sometimes, you just need to watch a jet like the Phantom be bad ass while standing still.
Thank you!
Thanks for your kind words, Being so close to them the smell and sound was awesome.
Appreciate you watching my videos
Daf
Great JOB Turkish AİR FORCE! Thank you!
Howdy Big D! Imagine those magnificent machines doing that walk with smoke or fog! It would look awesome! Thanks to the Turkish people for keeping these awesome planes flying! 🤠🙏
Maybe the Greek ones could do that for us ✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️💨💨💨💨💨🇬🇷🤞
Thanks as always 👍
Wow wow wow , I remember as a schoolboy in the late 70s going on a school trip to RAF Coningsby and seeing the Phantoms, still look the part, PHANTOMS FOREVER ❤
I worked on them in the early 70`s ...54 sqn RAF Coningsby loved it ....
Beautiful video. Brings back alot of memories. 1973/74 Transit Maintenance Incirlik CDI. Only F-4's then were ones rotated in from Torrejon Spain. Turks were flying F-100's, F-104's, F-102" and if my memory serves, F-84's. Turkish pilots were fantastic and TuAF were top notch at maintaining a mixed fleet. Thanks
Thanks for the info!
Appreciate you watching
Love at first sight. George AFB flightline was a beautiful sight with F4 C, D, E and F's everywhere. I'm so proud of my service and this bird.
When I was sent from tech school to George I was in awe. 105's, a couple of California ANG 100's, T-38's passing through. But the star on flightline were the Phantoms. As a WCS type on the F4-E on afternoon shift I got to see the beauty of constant takeoffs and landings with the beauty of the surrounding high desert. The Phantom was just a warrior and I had the privilege of being part of its legacy. I have a model of it on my nightstand.
Thanks for the info
Appreciate you watching 👍
Marvellous Elephant walk on these F-4E Terminator with special tail flash and livery ✨️
@@DougBrighTan_o7 thanks for watching.
@DafyddPhillips most welcome sir 😎👍
For a pilot to be able to say, "I flew the Phantom" is still very cool in 2024.
The most beautiful bird in the sky!!!
Love their lines, style and presence.
Phantoms never get old, they just get better!.
Indeed victor
Thanks as always
They are still such beastly looking planes. Still my favorite!
Probably the last great show of the Phantoms!
They were supposed to be taken of service in beginning 2020 however after Turkey kicked out of the F-35 program the airforce decided to hang on to them for another 8-10 years. They usually conduct bombing missions in areas with no adversary airforce or Sams
Many thanks for your nice detailing video, happy 50th anniversary of F-4 Phantoms for Turkish Air Force...

F4E Turkish Air Force。
Mighty F-4's. I remember them doing touch and go's at El Toro Marine Air Station Calif. 50 years ago.
@@philais You haven’t lived until you’ve seen a Vulcan touch and go. It blew a Land Rover behind it onto its roof.
The Phantom is an aggressive looking aircraft that just looks the part.
Love this plane! I crewed one in '72 in Korat, Thailand.
These would be the refurbished F4E Terminator? If so has modern engines with no smoke, modern avionics/modern weapons systems and lighter weight. Much more formidable than F4’s of old.
The planes have been renewed in every way, except for the external appearance of the plane, there is no similarity with the f4
The engine is the original J79.
@@chestersemaver Yes, the J79 on the plane, but this engine is completely renewed, there is no smoke at all, an agreement was reached with Israel and Turkish F4s were modernized.
Yes they all have been upgraded to terminator level in 2020.
They are called f4e 2020 but not modernized in 2020. Much earlier @fevziersoy8741
A legend for 60+ age years old people.
Fun fact: the 5000th phantom is still flying as the 77-0290 registration in Turkish Air Force. I hope they keep them in future
Thanks for the fact and thanks for watching 🎓✈️👍
77-0290 On the day of this flight, the aircraft was undergoing heavy maintenance and static tests. 77-0290 and these two aircraft painted with the Turkish flag are planned to be kept in a museum in flying condition in the future, meaning that even if Turkey withdraws the last F4s from flight, it will leave 2-3 aircraft in flying condition, and these will be the last F4s to remain in flying condition at this level in the world for the next 20-25 years.
Always loved the F4 Phantom. Beautiful aircraft
a TuAF pilot once described the F-4 as "flying barn door" and it might be spot on when compared to a F-16, but (me as an absolute F-16 fan has to admit that) in terms of looks the F-4 has still a lot to give ;)
These planes will be phased out gradually ("F-4 2020" for a reason) but I hope that we keep them as air show jewels in flying order. the F-4 2020 TERMINATOR modification on its own makes it a great static display jet already. seeing them in the future in Austria, France and England would be lovely.
the default gray/white paint schemes for the phantoms look absolutely beautiful
As a youngster I had an Uncle who was a Flight Lt. at Amberley. On a visit, he took us out beside the tarmac as a Phantom was taking off. I will never forget that experience ... the excitement, the noise and the raw power as it lifted off.
The very first model airplane kit I got was an F4 Phantom, had it hanging by fishing line from my bedroom ceiling for all of my childhood.
Absolutely majestic❤
f4s have served us well for many years🇹🇷🇹🇷😎
What awesome access you had for this video! I didn't know there was this many F-4s still air worthy! Great video!
We were very lucky to be able to be there. Turkey, Greece, South Korea and Iran still fly the F-4. Thanks for watching the video
Appreciate!
they are old but still look brand new.
Klasik araba koleksiyonu gibi çok havalı ❤
I wonder how many airframe hours they have. I'm only 63 years old and worked on 1968 model F-4E's in 1983 and I thought they were old back then. I like the 600 center line tanks
Great video Dafydd!! Wow, what an experience!!
Absolutely fabulous 👌

F-4 ve C160'ları hayatta tutan Türk Hava Kuvvetlerine teşekkürler
Great Job! I have just discovered your channel with those phantoms and watch the other videos. You really document the show as if we the audience were there. You make us live the experience on PC. Thank you Dafydd and thank you Turkish Air Force.
Thank you for your kind words and happy you like my channel.
The Turkish air force did a great job for us here 🇹🇷✈️👍
Never forget my back seat ride at Kunsan 1978 Long Live the Phantom
That is incredible! My favorite jet as a kid….main reason I joined the AF!!!
Happy you enjoyed it Donald
Thanks for watching
I agree with the "oldgoat" below, beautiful angles and nobody else to crowd the shots. If you know who "Starbaby" is, he'd love seeing this. He was the back seater in a Wild Weasel. If you don't know that name see 10% True. You can listen to him for hours, laughing for most of it. Thanks for a great video!!
Thanks for watching 👍
stunning painting
Awesome sight…..
What a view.
Turks in the top 5 in aviation :)
Have you been to Eskişehir
Yes l was there too modern clean and historic city
South Korea has some beautiful F-4’s they take care of their A/C and now they have the F-15K also.

Greece and tourkey they have both still in service this lagend
I love the airport phantoms❤
I love thephantoms❤
At a Biggin Hill air show in mid-60s I saw a Phantom break the sound barrier. I was 11. Thrilled doesn’t do it justice.
Bet that was awesome 👌
Thanks for watching
@ That was in the days when UK airshows were exciting. I know safety is paramount but now I find them rather dull. The days are gone when a Red Arrows jet would fly over the crowd. I saw two Lightnings climbing above me, very close. If they had touched it would have been catastrophic.
Happy days!
Apologies, my last comment ending ‘Happy days’ wasn’t very well put. It wouldn’t have been a happy day if the Lightnings had collided. Airshows used to be exciting, but with hindsight things could have gone badly wrong. No substitute for safety of crowds and pilots.
Old but still gold.
Thank You this amazing sharing..exc............
You're most welcome

Congratulations, beautiful images: The engine sounds are very impressive and exciting even if it is an old plane:

Looks like arresting hooks on some, perhaps all. Would be interesting to know the histories of the individual craft. Reminds me that it’s time to visit our local vfw for the Vietnam retired F4 on display there. Great video. Hope you had fun in Istanbul, too.

actually these F-4 Phantom II's are all upgraded to "2020 Terminator" versions.

People have different descriptors of how the Phantom looks to them, but from the time they were introduced my image has been they look deadly. Ready to take on anyone and anything.
Beautiful!

It's not for nothing the Phantom was known as 'The triumph of thrust over aerodynamics' 😁 I hope you took some marshmallows and a really long stick, Dafydd, they'd have toasted in no time in the jet blast; Yum!
