    The comment about using an ozone machine to clear the smoke smell will definitely work. If you don’t have access to one, a chemist I worked with at DuPont told me to put a slice of bread on a plate and sprinkle 20-30 drops of water on the bread. Place it in the closed-up truck for 12-24 hours and it will pull the odors out. It worked for us years ago when we bought a smoker’s truck. Glad you weren’t hurt!

    I am 5 ft 3 in on my best day, my knees have been bone on bone since before I turned 20, my hips have been grinding since before I turned 30, now at 48 on top of osteoarthritis I have RA and a whole bunch of other things. Even though my husband's truck is factory height and has running boards I can't really get in it. He bought me a fold-up single step stool. So, I step onto the stool, then onto the running board, then into the truck. He picks it up, folds it flat, and tucks it right under my legs. It's perfect! And the stools are typically right around $5 so if it gets forgotten somewhere or accidentally run over they're super cheap to replace. When I have to drive this truck I use my cane to hook the stool and pull it up to me. Just putting that out there for other fun sized peeps like myself.

    Hey Mustie, I also have a 19 tundra (trd off road). I recently found a very sturdy phone mount that clips into the air vent, made by tackform. Might be an option for your xm if the glue doesn't hold. Also, something to note with the trd dual exhaust you do gain a few hp but lose torque, since this is your new tow rig, you might want to look into a bam muffler from dirty deeds. It's dino proven to add not only hp but torque as well, and i think it is a noticeable amount. Keith at dirty deeds was great, Just give him a call if you are considering that exhaust.

    Looks like that truck could use a *Mustie1* undercoating after the repair. I always remember your technique as I've used it on multiple occasions to keep the jalopies together (and a few decent rigs also)
    The directions: You mix a gallon of Bar&Chain oil into a metal bucket with 2-3 wax toilet bowl rings. You then heat the bucket using a hot plate if you got one, or stick it near a Chinese diesel heater or Mr Buddy until the "sauce" is around 150-200 degrees and the wax rings are melted. You should prep the intended underbody with a wire wheel to remove loose rust and scale. Stir the mix with a paint stick once hot and apply to the underbody of a vehicle with a paintbrush. Drive down a dusty road immediately after application if possible. There is an excellent *Mustie1* video of the process if you look around in the past videos

    • @ProlificInvention
      @ProlificInvention 4 месяца назад +5

      @ericvaughn1126 I've put it on heavy near crevasses and holes and used an air blower tip to blast air and move it, it thins out substantially from heat...it may be able to sprayed from one of those Harbor Freight "air degreaser wands" but not sure (might be a disaster), those things are super useful as a side note.

    • @ProlificInvention
      @ProlificInvention 4 месяца назад +6

      @@ericvaughn1126If you've got the big bucks you can buy a gallon of "POR 15" rust converter paint and undercoat with that by applying 3 coats with the harbor freight "air degreaser sprayer" I mentioned, that stuff is awesome as well for slowing/stopping rust, it also looks good

    • @Blazer02LS

      @@ProlificInvention Appreciate the feedback. In related news, I'm an OH to NC transplant so I don't really have a "need" to undercoat here since there is no road salt used in the rare event that it does snow. Found a product called Auto Odor Eliminator by Dead Scent. Left it in there for an entire weekend. Drove it for 10 years and the only time I got a hint of smoke was if it was really humid. Not cheap but, hopefully helps others. Sadly, it went to the big junkyard in the sky 2 years ago. 298,5xx miles. I was shooting for 300. Lol. Still ran and 4X4 still worked with a lot of repairs by me. Rust made it unsafe to drive.

    Happy new truck. Great exhaust note and nice work on the centre console and runner boards. Hoping you'll show some of the oil going on the underside when you get around to it.
    Sorry to hear about the accident, relieved that your ok.

    Got a buddy who dose auto detailing he said to use an O-zone generator on the inside of the truck overnight. He did my wife’s car after we stopped smoking and it worked great. Sure the cleaning process helped too!😬

      when I do my Sportage, I leave the ozone machine running for 12 hours with Sportage sealed up. the next 6, I'll have the HVAC system in recirculate mode. change the cabin filter again. can still taste the funkiness the ozone machine produces but gets rid of the overall bleh

    I love the way you're able to find the right product for the job. Is there any chance you could let us know what the name of the stuff you sprayed on the frame of your old truck was? The stuff that took care of the rust on the frame. I have a 2011 Silverado that needs a good coat of that stuff!

    You may want to add a brace for those running board supports that connects back to the frame. That way it supports the running board better and doesn't allow a twisting motion causing stress on the body of the cab. My buddy had his mounted like yours are and it ended up ripping holes out of the bottom of his cab. I have a set too but it is also connected to the frame and no problems at all....also sturdier in case you do high center it.

    New year new (to you) truck!
    Long time subscriber here, always love the content. Positive, informative, fun.
    Man I can relate, when you've had a vehicle for so many years, so many memories are tied to it. Your vehicle really does kind of become an old friend.
    I just went through sort of similar last year. My trusty '11 Ranger that I bought new in early 2012 finally failed emissions and I was quoted nearly 10K to make it right. (4.0L with the rear timing chain guide problem in addition to the bad cats)..
    So I decided the time had come. Got more than I thought I would for that Ranger with 164K on it and traded it on a 2019 Nissan Frontier SV with whatever they call the preferred package.. so I get heated seats, dual zone, auto dimming mirror and the better stereo. Has a bunch of features my old truck lacked and it's a much more comfortable place to be. I am super happy with it!
    I am glad neither you or the other driver were injured and I hope you have a long time ahead with many happy miles with your new Tundra. It's a sharp looking truck!

    Happy New Year, Darren, from Australia. At the time of writing, we've had our celebrations and it's 4 AM here. Being a recovering smoker, I can sympathise with you having to put up with the stale tobacco odor. It can be offensive, although some folk don't mind because it reminds them of a happier time in their life. Perhaps a favourite grandfather or something. Anyhow, I just wanted to suggest filling a shoebox with coffee grounds and leaving it in the truck for 24hrs or so. It works in most cases. To clean the headliner, try sugar soap. My week now culminates with a Mustie1 video and O couldn't think of a better way to spend Sunday evening here. First, your presentation, then Taryl Fixes All, plus a daily fix of Rainman Ray's Repairs, plus Greg Salazar's channel for the PC geek in me. Looking forward to another year of all of that. Stay safe and keep the shiny side up.

    Congratulations on the new truck. I have a 16 sr5 and really like it for general truck stuff. Hauling and towing 4-5000 lbs. the only thing that isn’t great is the mileage. Luckily I had a 6.0 before this truck so 5.7 still does marginally better with similar power.
    Edit: I went with wool wax for undercoating. $250 for the first treatment, $200 for follow-ups.

    Dear Mustie1.
    First of all: Happy new year, Sir. 2) 👍👌👏 This is a great video that I really enjoyed to watch. It's nice to see/hear you being happy. By the way: Congratulations 🎉 for getting a newer/better vehicle. Of course the most important thing is, that no human being was hurt while the accident. You did a great job cleaning, repairing and modifying/upgrading your new beefy, very strong "tow rig". I wish you to have a lot of joy with the pickup truck. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
    Best regards luck and health in particular. By the way: Hope that your wife's knee gets better soon.
