@@stewartfurini I felt the same recently with a spalted beech bowl, just couldn't colour it....the great thing about staining is you can still see the grain...
Outside curve is spot on. Colour combination very nice. All in all, a very fine bowl. Enjoyed your commentary as always. Looking forward to your next video.
Definitely a brave thing to do, but the colours used definitely compliments the yew. Love how it turned out. Have made the mistake of building up too much heat with burnishing cream before and damaged the lacquer. Now ensuring that I keep the cloth moving a lot more throughout
That's a beautiful bowl, Stewart. Don't do anything to the area you said was blotchy. I think it just adds to the total effect the way it is. Stay safe and well. Bill
I love the shape of this bowl. It is so gorgeous! I wonder if it was sanded just a shade too much to cause the dye to make those blotches. And of course, I'm curious to see what you've done to fix it. Nice job. 😉💜
Thank you, Tracey! As of now, it hasn't been 'fixed', but it would need to have the finish sanded off, the colour reapplied, and then lacquered again.... Cheers!
@@stewartfurini I'm wondering if maybe since the dye is water based it was not completely dry before you applied the lacquer, causing some hazing? Same thing that happens when you sit a wet glass on a lacquered tabletop. Really like the shape of the bowl. Looks like it would feel very good in the hands.
Cheers - glad you enjoyed it so much! I've got a Trend Airshield - I think it filters to a higher level than the aircap that Axminster sell, but it is a bit wobbly on the head. If I'm not jumping around too much in it, it's ok. The 3M air helmet set up (around about £800) looks the dog's you-know-whats!
Beautiful colouring Stewart, once again.......Starting experimenting with acrylic Intrinsic colours on bowls myself. I have turned it off three times now, but good practice. When using 2 or 3 colours I can't seem to blend the hard lines between colours? Any ideas would be welcome.....
Cheers, Ian - I think speed might be the answer so that you have both colours still wet. The water-based ones don't seem to be reactivated like spirit stains are when they are put over each other. I'm still getting used to water-based as well!
Hi Stewart, The stains just enhanced out the natural colour of the Yew. Superb finish as well. What speed do you burnish at? I have stopped using burnishing cream because the finish was getting worse. Now I understand why. Take care Stewart. Cheers, Huw
Stunning and elegant bowl, the colour only enhances the natural yew colour. Thank you Stewart
Glad you enjoyed it
So beautiful ! That color!!! 👏👏👏💪 love it
Thank you! Cheers!
Liking the choice of colors to blend nicely with the natural color tones of the yew.
Thanks, Valerie - an expression of the sensitive side of my psyche!
Mr colour 😁 you have done it again, it’s a stunning bowl thank you for sharing x

Glad you enjoyed it, Ed - and it was good to crack out my new longworth chuck!
Beautiful bowl and finish Stewart, only turned Yew once love the grain, thanks for sharing.
Thanks 👍It's a lovely wood to turn....felt a bit like a wood murderer colouring it!

Thanks, Sigurdur 👍 The shape is as important to me as the colouring - if not more so! So I was pleased to get this one right. Cheers!

Merci! I'm delighted you like it so much. Thank you! Cheers!
Love the bowl. Even with the blotchy spots I'd be willing to buy a bowl like that.
Thanks 👍

Cool, thanks, Bill!
Stunning shape Stewart, I was almost horrified when you said you were going to colour Yew but I must admit it turned out beautiful.

@@stewartfurini thanks for that Stewart
Lovely bowl and I wouldn't touch it, BUT -- if you were going to recut it to tackle the blotches, how would you hold it?
Cheers, Mark - I'd put it on some expanding jaws with padding between them and the wood, just to hold it for sanding. I wouldn't cut it again.
I love the boowl,beatiful👍🇮🇩
Thanks, Ari - I love it too!
Beautiful, Did you end up re staining the outer ?
Thank you, Tyas - never quite got round to it! But it's on the list of things to put right sometime.....Cheers!

Not exactly what we're accustomed to seeing from you, Stewart, but it is lovely nonetheless! Really pretty piece.

Cheers, Huw - I guess somewhere around 1200 or so.....it goes on and comes off much better with safety cloth rather than kitchen roll too!
@@stewartfurini Thank you Stewart
Hi Stewart, I think you’ve broken an unwritten law that says you should not colour yew. 😋 But the end result is simple but stunning. Thank you
