I agree with you 100%. As a psychology professional, I can tell you paedophilia is, as the name suggests, classified as a psychological (psychiatric) disorder under the category of paraphilias. As such, paedophilia requires psychological and psychiatric treatment and, in case of law breaking, punishment as the state sees fit. Whoever suggests paedophilia is a sexual orientation is very, extremely misinformed.

@@bonk895 unfortunately, I do not know the specifics of this, because it is not my majoring field. However, I do know that experts, such as clinical psychologists, clinical neuropsychologists, and psychiatrists are trained to treat respectively trauma-based emotion- and behaviour-related problems, eventual neuropsychological disorders, and psychiatric disorders (compulsions, for instance, and fixations) by means of various therapeutic methods, among which cognitive-behavioural therapy, client-focused therapy, and pharmacological therapy.
In other words, experts for treating paraphilias exist. Some of these experts, for instance clinical psychologists and forensic psychologists, specialise in disorder-specific treatments.
Everything however starts always with an assessment and diagnosis.
Generally, the content of the assessment, diagnosis and therapy is private between the patient and the therapist, unless illegal acts have been committed (in these cases, forensic or clinical psychologists need to inform the authorities, without disclosing the client's personal information in relation to the therapeutic session).
@@bonk895 to answer the first part of the question, instead, how they'd go about it, this is more of a personal choice. People who feel they have an issue that is pervasive and impairing of normal behaviour should visit a psychologist or psychiatrist. Unfortunately, many variables are accountable for absence of therapy on people who need, primarily the fact that people who got an issue themselves do not even know, at times, what they have is an issue. Speaking specifically about paedophiles, I do think that people who have these tendencies and recognise them as wrong and seek for help are, and if not, should be, welcomed for treatment. On the other hand, I also believe that if paedophiles act out their own desires without minding about the psychological concequences a child can have (e.g. Children who had sexual experiences with adults may develop conditions such as anorexia, OCD, OCPD, MDD, various psychotic disorders, etc., just to name a few, and as well related physical problems, derived from both physical and emotional trauma), they should be punished as the state sees fit without any mercy, as well as be forced to undergo therapy (pharmacological one). This is only my own opinion obviously. But overall, whoever doesn't commit illegal actions but actively seek for help, should be helped in a secure and positive-behaviour re-enforcing environment.

Non-offending pedos don't NEED to seek treatment if they can control it themselves. It's not curable, so for people who are non-offenders and never going to be, "treatment" doesn't do anything except line psychologists pockets. One might think you're saying that exactly for that reason ;)
