    no it's
    not always caliber , the neon sounds better handles more power and torque . it's just has that raw feel to it that a race car should have lol

      Neon SRT-4 sounds better than pretty much any 4 cylinder IMO. There have been some other beastly sounding 4 cylinders I've heard over the years, but pound for pound, NEON SRT!!
      My little SRT made it to 300k miles until 2 months ago, she was a good lady to me considering she was my only car that had been daily driven since she had 13 miles on odometer from the showroom!!

    I've had mine since '12, though I haven't driven it much since '17. They are reliable, but with limited production around 6500, parts are getting very scarce when something does actually break. A lot of things will have to come from a donor car or junkyard/ebay.

    Love these people who comment about reliability, quality, and origins of the caliber who have no clue what they are talking about. For starters virtually nothing on the engine is compatible with the neon except injectors. The engine is not a "Hyundai" engine, it is a world engine co-developed by chrysler, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai, not much is interchangeable between them but rod bearings and the evox oil pump can be used (maybe a few other things). Also, Fiat had nothing to do with the caliber, it started with the terrible Daimler merger, and yes the interior is crap, but hey all the Chrysler vehicles of that time were. The interior was updated in 2010 after the Fiat merger and was way better, not great, but leaps better than the cheap crap Daimler had them use. The only thing unreliable about these things is the owner, these cars are a super simple design and extremely easy to work on.

    Also yes they may be reliable, and well so is the neon but little do you know that when you start to give the Caliber srt4 goodys it will hate you, and the neon will love you. They may be reliable but reliable if you leave them stock and don’t play with them, where as the neon it’s reliable and love to get parts thrown at it.

    Its 240whp 260-270wtq out of the factory for stock neon srt-4's. That 215 number isn't quite correct. That's why stock for stock, neon srt-4 demolishes the caliber srt-4 in performance. The caliber is absolutely the replacement however per PVO plans an execution. They're killer platforums and really can't compare to neons as they are both different imo.

  • @rooh5825
    @rooh5825 Год назад

    Boy, where does someone start...
    There are no shared parts between the NSRT4 and CST4 engines. None. They are both intercooled inline-4 turbocharged engines. That's about as similar as it gets.
    The 2005 NSRT4 advertised power was a hilarious joke, and everyone who tested it knew they underrated it. Actual flywheel power is estimated to be 255-265 hp(190-198 kW) and 260-270 lb-ft torque. This was supported by more than a dozen independent review dyno tests, NOT owners, but journalists. The Caliber dynoed between 260 and 280, 260 would be closer to correct with parasitic drivetrain loss, but 280 would indicate underrating. Either way, the idea that there is some 70 hp difference is incorrect. You might be correct by stating "advertised" but in reality the power is a LOT closer.
    Would you like to discuss handling, both on curves and uneven surfaces? The original press event for the Caliber SRT4 was done on a glass-smooth racetrack, and reports came back of greatly improved handling. In the months that followed, as journalists got ahold of the car for independent reviewed, that all changed. The handling was abysmal. For obvious reasons, as the car was top heavy. But there were also lots of complaints about ride quality. You also sit up very high in the car, it's like sitting in truck bench seats. That might be alright for a bigger guy I guess, but for sports car enthusiasts, that's a big downgrade. Braking and skidpad numbers are also worse, because again, heavier car with a higher center of gravity.
    "Compared to the SRT4 Neon this thing is a million times better" very VERY few people believe that. Even the PVO team HATED the Caliber, you know, the team that actually built it? The SRT version of the Caliber was 18 months late to the showroom floor due to multiple issues. When asked what was taking so long on the SRTforums PVO chat session, the exact response was "The term polishing a turd comes to mind". A Chrysler engineer was asked at the unveiling about the really bad ride and handling of the CSRT4, and the response? "Garbage in, garbage out". Quite telling. (the 18 month wait was due to multiple issues, most involved with the placement of 'go fast' parts in the engine bay
    If you remain unconvinced, take a look at the purchase prices currently for the vehicles. The average cost online right now for a Caliber SRT4 sits at just above $9,000. The average cost of the Neon SRT4 is just under $16,000.
    The one key point someone can make about the Caliber version is that the Getrag transmission is far and away better than the T850 slushbox from New Venture Gear. In fact, NVG is out of business, and Getrag is still kicking strong. It is unfortunate that DaimlerChrysler went away from a trusted supplied that they had used for DECADES in Getrag, and went with NVG, who chose to use inferior materials in their transmission to supposedly "avoid issues" then owners found out that after about 80k miles, you had issues because the softer parts were damaged.
    Here's the thing, I don't think the Caliber SRT4 is a bad car. In fact, i was ready, money in hand, to purchase one in 2006, then they were delayed, then they were delayed again. In a straight line, the Caliber would hold its own but still lose by a couple car lengths in 0-60 and/or quarter. But on a track it's not a contest. Especially if you had the ACR version of the NSRT4, you'd run circles around the Caliber. Overall quality, you might have an argument that the Caliber was a better put together car as far as fit and placement. That honestly doesn't make up for everything else though.
    The SRT team did a good job with the Caliber, based on what they started with, but it was a bad replacement for the Neon. And that is why one is considered a legend, and the other is an oddity that to this day is really out of place in the compact sport car market.

      Not stock with stock tires you didn't. There is no way you ran .6 faster than the best advertised time 0-60 in the R/T Challenger. The fastest version of the Challenger runs a 4.8 and that goes up to a 5.3 for the slowest year advertised. Even on drag radials an improvement like that on a RWD car would be impossible, unless you were driving it off a cliff.
