    "The Trans is the weak point of this car" That is kinda a distortion of the truth. You have a Front wheel drive very torquey car that can EASILY put 500hp to the wheels with just a clutch. PVO chose the T350 because its the only Trans Dodge had that could handle the Daily Torque put to it. When you ask Daily driven nSRT-4 what trans do they have they rarely swap the trans for anything besides the SRT trans. Sure I needed Billet/stronger input shafts when I got over 500 Whp but saying the trans is weak. Isn't really the whole story

    Those 4cyl at the time were among the easiest engines ever to get big power from. You could stack the HP and they took it. Now, I don’t think anyone was doing 500whp at the time but in its day it was wild. The Caliber is still a really cool looking car when done right.

    Been daily driving my 426whp nsrt4 for about 6 months now. I gotta say its a lot of fun! have a love/hate relationship with my SRT4 ACR. 3rd gear synchro is now shot in the replacement trans after the first one literally blew a hole in the side - wasn't even beating on it. have yet to solve a roof leak, even after siliconing the front windshield and sealing the sunroof shot, etc etc. there is an endless supply of squeaks and rattles. replaced the brakes and caliper fronts at least twice. the engine is a beast, dyno'd at over 300hp to the wheel, but the after-market clutch can't handle it (okay that's probably my fault, but christ man...)

    Dodge really should bring back the Neon SRT-4, considering the advancements they’ll have made to FWD an how emissions are pushing more manufacturers away from fuel hogs. We need something to challenge Honda/Hyundai. The torque steer was what killed this vehicle, as inexperienced drivers hurt themselves if not worse forcing these into a early coffin.

      I wouldn't say insanity. It was the lowest mile, and rarest trim package srt4 model ever made. Around 200 CE's were built. Not only was it rare in that sense. The miles as well, was a contributing factor.. it had a 126 original miles on it. These cars built can fetch upwards of 10 to 20k or more easily..depending on build statistics. So seeing that isn't too nuts. It sounds nuts when you don't know the cars and the community. That's why it sounds crazy because you're not familiar with it.

    Seems like this engine (Caliber SRT4) is much closer in design to the EVO X (4B11) than Hyundai's iteration (Theta/2) since the intake manifold and valve cover fit. I have been wondering about that myself since parts for the Theta2 are scarce if any are available at all. I wonder how pistons would clear the valves. I wonder, hmmm 🤔

    • @j_tootie
      @j_tootie Год назад +2

      the Caliber srt engine is kind of in the middle of both. oil pump, timing components, (I think valves but not 100%), cams, intake/exhaust manifolds bolt right up, but the head and block design are way different. the main bearings are the same size as the 4B11T but the tang is opposite, although they will work if you remove the tang or notch the upper/lower mains. The rod bearings, and I believe the head gasket are the same as the Hyundai but that's about all they have in common, maybe some head and/or timing components are the same but not really worth getting since the 4B11T timing components fit just fine.

Or put a Cruiser drivetrain into a car of your choosing. Add lsd (they were never added later in the pt) and look for HO (high output) motor model that makes a good 20 more horse like the later srt.

    • @RyGuyRy
      @RyGuyRy Год назад +4

      Thats a myth/problem people were having with some of their srt-4s. Some reported issues of faulty fuel pick-ups that cut-out well before the tank is empty, another issue some supposedly had was after filling up and the pump had initially stopped/cut off, was to wait a minute and let it settle then they could pump in the last 3 gallons or so. Either way these were "faulty" fuel systems that needed repair and NOT bc of a smaller tank. Understand alot of "kids" bought this car and were pretty dumb lol(i bought my first one when i was 21 brand new off the showroom floor). Some of these not so bright kids made threads on forums complaining how their car can only be filled up 8-10gal. Thats correct, bc srt-4s still have 3gallons left in the reserve AFTER the low fuel light comes on, that ontop of an almost 9gallon fill at the pump means you have youre roughly 12gallons right?, duuuuuh lollol. You wont get nowhere near the 12.5gallons at the pump unless you run the car until the low fuel light starts BLINKING, which means now you got like a gallon left, thats it. So then filling at the pump means your gonna be near that 11-12gal mark. I have owned 4 of these. First one off the showroom floor in '04. Currently own a mint/showroom quality '03 with only 20k miles that im keeping forever. Have worked and driven on many...friends with Bogdan who used to own one of the top srt-4 shops to get work done and still to this day is the proud owner of "REDBULL SRT-4"(check out his ytube vid) - fastest 5spd srt-4 world record holder. To some it up in a nutshell though...not just Srt-4s but every single NEON for that matter whether it be from Plymouth, Chrysler, Dodge, an ES, SE, SXT, R/T, or SRT4/ACR has a 12.5 gallon fuel tank.
