  • I start repairing a Nikon One Touch L35AF2 that does not power on. The film counter is stuck and the shutter button does not depress. In this video I get the casing off and start poking around. This originally was going to be about +45 minutes but my camcorder or SD card decided to loose the files. In part 2 which will start filming this weekend I will power it using an external power supply and measure current draw. Then I want to look at the contacts on the bottom of the camera that I noted in the end of this video. The gold plating has tarnished and it is a good place to start.
My motivation to film comes and goes so there could be a long duration before part 2. I was filming shutter speed testing on the K1000 but that footage was trash and then I got stuck in a downward spiral of trying to make it better with edits and scripts. Not my style so hopefully I stay motivated and output a video soon. The to be repaired bin is full and I hear the cameras crying out at night that they would like to be used again someday. Netflix calls while I wait for this video to upload, hopefully it's siren song will be mute again tomorrow.
Ignore all that, this camera is beyond my skills to fix it. Back in the bin it goes. Maybe someday it will return.
    For anyone who cares:
Filmed on a Sony Handycam HDR-CX160
Audio is recorded using a Zoom ZH1
Edited using kdenlive because I run Arch

Ignore all that, this camera is beyond my skills to fix or it is too far gone. Back in the bin it goes. Maybe someday it will return.

I believe the flash on one of these cameras will only Power up if you pop the flash up put on a camera that's working properly. This is a fully automatic flash so it won't pop up if there's a lot of light but you can trick it by covering the lens and half pressing the shutter when does long as the flash popped up it should fire.

The film counter is jammed. Look over the counter and see where it is sticking. If you can get it back to zero or at the next number where you can fully depress the shutter button the camera should work.

What screwdriver did you use to take off the screw at 18:40?

It's part of the Wiha precision screwdriver set. I think a philips #0.

I had the same problem and watching this video made me frustrated because you where touching everything except for the part that controls the shutter button. If you go a little more down from where the button is, there is a switch that is locked. You have to press it down and the camera will reset itself.

I am not sure what button you are talking about. On the front of the camera vertically down from the shutter button is the self timer that rotates but that does not reset the camera. On the bottom of the camera is the slider and button for the film rewind which also does nothing to make this camera work.

@@sdp8483 looking from the front under the shutter release button is a black plate connected to the shutter mechanism (at the right end connected with the spring), if you move it all the way to the right, it will unlock the shutter and release the trigger button. I just repaired my camera bought on ebay. It took me 10 minutes thanks to this video to get to the inside and your one helpful comment :) Thanks man!

these camera's seem unreliable as fuck
i bought one that seemed in perfectly working condition for a bit too much money and it crapped out on me after a single roll of film
i dont get the hype for these unreliable boxes, caused nothing but frustration and shit photos on my trip to vietnam

You have no power!! Insert really NEW powerful batteries! Try clean the contacts of batteries!
