    I just looked at the manual for the L35af and it tells you how to cover the meter to trick The Flash into popping up. I think that was just a cost-saving measure rather than putting a switch with a whole other mechanism in it. So I'm guessing the camera still meters either way. The other possibility is since it was designed by a car designer could just be for cleaner looking aesthetic. Other manufacturers made similar looking cameras that did include a conventional flash switch.

    The 2 settings for the rewind are for choosing to rewind the film either fully, or rewind leaving a little bit of film (called the film ‘leader’) outside the film canister. That second option is nice if you process your own film, you don’t need to open the canister to unload it.

    Giorgetto Giugaro was the dude who worked with Nikon to design the F3 (adding the red stripe) and I believe, in some capacity on the majority of their models since then. He was a car designer involved with DeLorean, Ferrari and heaps of other stuff

    I purchased two Nikon L35AF2s new in the box for $7 U.S. each around 2002. I bought them for my daughter who was twelve at the time. She was unable to destroy them although she did take out the next two digital cameras she had. They took great 4 x 6 inch prints, which is what they were designed for. The cameras still work fine and look like new.

    Yes, when u hold flash down, camera will shoot slow shutter. Many people used to tape it because in street photography situation, they don't to be seen by subjects! I have that twin lens one and love the silent shutter! Thanks for the secret battery thingy! Your review is spot on! This was so helpful, thank you! Beautiful photos :) Just making the switch from digital to film, and chose the L35AF2 as a starter camera. I am a little confused about the no ISO option. Maybe dumb question, but what does it default to? Wondering how to decide what film to buy for it....

    • @LucyLumen
      @LucyLumen  Год назад +1

      Hello lovely! Thank you for watching and I'm so excited to hear you are coming over to film :) Most film stocks will have something called a DX code and your camera will read that and do it all itself. Example you shoot colour plus 200 in your L35 and it will set it to 200 by reading the DX code. Some films don't have DX coding so then your camera will just go to it's default setting which various camera to camera and sometimes can be something annoying like 100 ISO. You can buy DX code stickers to put on your roll of film and this will then over ride the default setting or allow you to push or pull a film. Tbh I have never had to worry with this really and just shoot at box speed generally. I hope that makes sense I'm no the best at explaining technical things haha. Feel free to ask any questions you may have in the future too :) Happy shooting

And, like Halle above me, I am also confused about the No ISO option. Could you explain what that means to a total newbie like me? Can I shoot with standard 400 rolls? Or do I need to buy special film? (Also wondering if I should exchange the L35AF2 for the original model if the ISO is a big deal..)

I heard it when you pronounced it like you did and knew it's just a part of growing as a youtuber and a photographer, which is why I didn't comment about it. I have a question for you if you can help me out. As a beginner, do you think I should go for the classic L25AF 1000 ISO, or also the AF3 could work just as fine? You can really tell the difference lens-wise when you develop your photos? Do you have some insight on this matter?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @LucyLumen
      @LucyLumen  2 года назад +1

      Hello Alexandra, Thank you for watching and I really appreciate you reaching out and asking me about this. I am always happy to help. So I think the original L35AF is the best for many reasons, the lens quality, the ability to manually set the ISO etc. but if you are a shooter even just like myself who is having fun and not wanting to spend lots of money then the AF3 is a great option. The lens is still very good and you will get amazing photos with that camera and it will be cheaper than the original. So weigh up what is important to you I suppose. Also know that these point and shoots aren't going to last forever and do have some build quality issues so maybe not paying a huge price for the original is a good thing. Also check out the canon sure shoot 76 zoom, I think that is a little cheaper and the build quality is a lot better and I get great results from that. Anymore questions please feel free to hit me up on Instagram or here again on RUclips. Love hearing from fellow female shooters! :)

Yeah, I kinda wanna be like you and Faizal Westcott and own the original one, but I also wanna spend maybe a bit less and have a newer model that hopefully will last better in the years to come. I’ll try deciding on what’s more important to me, as you say. Thanks again, also for your other recommendation, I will look into it!

      Hey Alex! Yes I am a total Nikon gal we have so many of them! Definitely keep an eye out for one of these or the nikon TI35 is it that also looks really cool, but is expensive! In saying that I LOVE my canon sure shot 76 zoom and it doesn't have any build quality issues but it doesn't have the same look as this camera and doesn't look as cool, cause I mean come on, Nikon is way cooler haha

      Censor was a film I wanted to check out but have not had the opportunity to watch. I've seen some reviews on the film and it seems to be something of a divisive movie, put despite its mixed opinions I think its great that a new film maker ( a new voice) got to make his vision, the film he wanted to make.

      I have the canon sure shot 76 zoom and that is soooo good, really sharp. Most of what canon made, especially in that time frame before they were trying to make things too compact and compromise on lens quality is worth buying and I’m sure would be great 👍🏻 let me know how you go always up for a camera chat 💬 📸😊👋🏻❤️

    Lucy hi. Old cameras can easily be fixed if its mechanical issues by making /repairing any component or part thereof with superglue+bakingsoda, plasticwelding+steelwool, 3dprinting and further electronic or hobbyshop motors. Also pirate components by testing, catalog and toolbox. Never duct tape unless you are away from base. Other issues, try to get circuit repair diagrams and books asap, which you may find over the top but your electronic buddy could use when you turn to him, or even a client that have guts to repair stuff. Everything other than a broken heart can be fixed.

    I have the Nikon L35AF and it’s actually my first film camera but it always malfunctions. I was on my 32nd shot then the shutter button suddenly got stucked. The way I fixed this before was I open the battery door and try to move or push the battery further then closing the door again then it’ll make the sound after you push the shutter button which is the film advancing then i’ll be able to take a shot again but as soon as I take the shot, the shutter button will be stucked again so I have to do the same procedure, and that’s how I normally “fix” it but on my 32nd shot, that happened again and I thought oh i’ll just open the battery door again then try to fix/move the battery then move it then it’ll come back to normal but when I did that, nothing changed and i tried changing batteries and also tried to do the foil thing inside but it still didn’t work so I tried rewinding the film by pushing the button underneath then all of a sudden it started rewinding when I thought it’s not working.

    • @user-of4fw9hx9b
      @user-of4fw9hx9b 2 года назад

      Then ofc I took out the film and put a new one and tried a few shots and it was working fine, went out to take pictures and the malfunction still happens but yeah i could still fix it by opening the battery door and I got up to my 26th shot and it happened again so I had to rewind the film again. It’s frustrating me cause I love this camera but i am wasting my film when my only to choice to make it work is to rewind the film everytime the shutter button gets stucked even if I try to fix the battery compartment. Do you guys have any suggestions? I messaged the seller of the camera and he said he’ll offer a return and a refund but it’s too much a hassle and I feel bad cause I still used it for a little bit.

    for anyone who falls for the hype for these cameras, be aware. Even if they're in mint condition they stop working or act quirky very easily
