I had one of the original Nikon L35AF cameras, AFTER a stretch with Ye Olde Canon Sure Shot. (The first generation AF Canon was noisy in operation, while the Nikon was a bit quieter.) These were the pre-DX days, when one set the ISO number manually, usually +1/3 (i.e., ISO 80 instead of 100) to compensate for "using the film latitude" metering system and the weak built-in flash. As for the "weak plastic shutter button and battery cover," I never had any problems, but my usage was "light."

Help, please! I have an Olympus AF-1 and because I dont like the flash being automatic Im planning to sell that and get this Nikon. Do you think I should do it?
Aysenur Onaran , the flash on this camera will pop up as well when it thinks it needs flash in darker settings with less light..such as in doors. But you can over ride it by pushing the flash down after it's popped up. Have you looked at the Olympus AF1 Twin, also called the infinity twin. It has two lenses is the same size as the regular AF1 and you can turn off the flash on the top with a button
So you shouldn't open the back door when there's film inside? I did it a few times on my L35AF2 and thought it was broken lol. The counter goes back to S. But what happens to the film?
Yerr never open the back door as it lets light onto the film and wipes out any photos taken. Only open the back when the film is fully rewound
I keep seeing these in camera lots on ebay, but have yet to try one out. Good to know about the fragile shutter button, I'll keep that in mind if I do grab one. I own what I think is a digital equivalent of this- Nikon's Coolpix A. Its a DX sized sensor, but for such a compact digital camera it offers a lot IMO. It always comes with me on family vacations!

Film Camera Reviews They are (were) great cameras. Nikon discontinued them, I believe. I also use it as my overhead video cam, because its so light I can boom arm it over the table without any tipping problems.
BTW, have you had a chance to shoot your Olympus Twin yet?
filmismorefun , I've just changed my setup to a boom arm arrangement using my smart phone, it's not perfect yet but I'll try and improve it for the next video. I'm loving the Olympus twin lens camera. I hope you don't mind but I'm itching to do a video review on it? I'll certainly give your channel a shout out, as its your fab channel that made me aware of its quirky coolness. I'm shot a few rolls and need to get them developed soon.

Thnx! But i closed my eyes and listened... I got pretty annoyed by the constantly wiggling and moving of the camera in your hands. It's just a personal thing I think.

@@dangerpowers123 Please don't wiggle it so much, its hard while watching this in HD. I recommend doing close up shots too.
I have the same one as you. So much easier to call it the Nikon One Touch, but I know how photographers like to over complicate everything.

great video!!! Just wondering, in regards to image quality, would you choose the L35AF over the L35AF3? I have not been able to find much information on the web, some say the first lens is much superior do you believe this to be true? Thank you in advance!!
Nathalie Thompson , naa I think they are all great. The first has cult status because it's the first property Nikon pocket film camera . But the second and third verison are great. And really all I'd say is the third version takes more expensive batteries. So the second version is maybe the best as it's not as expensive and still has the normal batteries.

Film Camera Reviews so does the second one have the same lens as the first one? On eBay the first one cost way more then the second one or the L35AD versions. Idk why. If I bought the l35af2 or l35AD it should produce the same quality as the first one right?
MrSodaBelly , it's not exactly the same lens. Very slight optical difference, but its all hype on the first one, all three versions take 99% the same pictures from a lens point of view. The only reason to pay more for the first one is because it's got the manual ISO dial on the lens and screw lens filter so you can use a yellow filter for black and white. The second version doesn't allow manual ISO selection and has no filter thread. The third version is a bit of a pain because they stopped the use of normal AA batteries so will cost more to power. So the first version is sort of the best from a features point of view. But optics are essentially the same on all 3.

If I do a self timer will the automatic flash pop up? How do I avoid that at night if i put it on a tripod? The flash is automatic right?
MrSodaBelly , usually if the flash does pop up you just push it down and it stays down. You may have to quickly do this after the self time starts. Or could just stick some black electrical tape over the flash so it doesn't matter if it goes off. I do this on my instax mini as it's flash it automatic and too bright.

Early versions are going for $100-$250 on auction sites in the US. ,,,for they early versions. Canon had a very similar one, the AF35M. But I do have both, I got lucky and got the Nikon for $5 from a big independent shop and the canon for $8 at a charity shop
I just bought one of these. Will they turn on without film in them? I put new batteries in the camera and it does nothing, and I don't want to waste a roll of film on a dead camera.
yes they fire without film in them
L37 is Nikon speak for UV filter - so they may have made others
why almost all people says that f/2.8 lens on a fixed lens camera is "pretty fast for such camera" ?
they are all f2.8
the vast majority of them. it's the standard lens speed. the normal. generic.
only few cameras have slower (f3.5) or faster (f2-f1.4) lenses.
At the time it was a fast speed. When Point and Shoots were first announced, only a few were made with f/2.8 lenses. The big brands like Nikon and Canon did it with their cameras while Minolta and Yashica took a little longer to do the same. Eventually, point and shoot cameras started to have faster fixed lenses and some zoom lenses (absent of the 2.8 aperture). If anything, f/3.5 is the more “generic” lens while the f/2.8 lenses are the more pricier these days.

Brandon Schmitz , hello Brandon. You will need 35mm film for this camera. Any 35mm film will work. I shoot Ilford XP2 400 but any film will work that is 35mm

It's fractionally better in my opinion... I think I prefer the first one for it's manual iso dial
