Hey thanks man, good to see the capabilities of this little guy. I just got a mint one from goodwill for $5. CRAZY!
I have the original version of this camera an I love it. Your absolutely correct about the focusing system, you have to pay attention on what the camera chooses to focus on. Nice pics by the way and keep up the good work!
I acquired an L35AF about 8 years ago. The seller took a lot of time shipping it. He must've realized it was very cheap. And it was: in today's money it cost me about USD7.00. I haven't shot with it yet and it is in my former hometown. I'm happy to know how good it is. This video is straightforward and taught me evertyhing I needed to know about this camera. Thanks a lo!
Love film cameras! This is my only Nikon, my mom brought it to me from the Philippines and it was my grandfather’s :) excited to start shooting w it
I have this camera, bought it new back about 1986, and it still works fine. Lots of great photo's taken over the many years.
Which batteries do you use for This camera
Great job! Very informative. Thank you!
Great video! I just got this camera, and this was very informative!
Great review! Just picked one of these up
That's awesome! Thanks for the comment!
Nice channel! Really enjoying the content.
Thank you!
Really good and informative video. I sell stuff online and this video totally helped me test it. Thanks dude.
This helped me a lot! Thank you :)
Your photos are awesome. They look great.
Thank you!
I have this camera, great one !!
Super vidéo !!
Bought mine like new for $5. Love it
Solid video. Thank you.
very clear, thanks!
500th like :) thanks for the video. I picked mine up for $1.50!
I accidentally bought a one touch instead of the OG L35AF and ty for the review and breakdown!
I did the same thing :( How did it go for you?
I've had mine since roughly 1998. The lady who gave it to me (for free) didn't quite understand that taking the batteries out while rewinding the film is a bad idea.
She thought it was broken... and gave it to me to fix. And now in 2020... it's right here in my hand still functioning.
How do you fix that, I got one that has the same issue.
@@Screwmane All you have to do to reset the rewind mechanism and make the button pop out again is open the film door. But if you have film in there, you'll destroy it when it's exposed to light. So don't open the door unless it's in a film changing bag, or a dark room.
Once the door has been opened, there's nothing else to do. Just close it, make sure you have your batteries in there, and rewind it like normal.
@@vhfgamer yeah mine is not that simple, I open it and close it nothing changes. But I’m guessing it was opened once while rewinding the film back in. As soon as I put batteries in it it won’t stop rewinding. It doesn’t matter if it’s in the off or on position or if the film door is open or closed. The shutter button seems to be stuck down as well.
@@Screwmane Hmm then you don't have the same problem I did. Maybe some of the buttons are stuck down? You could try putting batteries in, opening the door, and then gently poking and prodding at the buttons to see if they pop back up. Other than that, its dissection time.
Hey I have a question about the gold plated prongs that read the code, what if one of them is bent?
Thank you!
Great channel ! (subscribed)
Thank you!!
My Nikon L35AF hasn't been used in a long while. I haven't loaded with film but I did put in new batteries. Would the camera indicate it's "on" with fresh batteries but not film?
Oh, you are much to hard on the Nikon's autofocus mechanism. Not only is it extremely accurate, but it's also the same as the autofocus system in the Contax T2 you used for comparison. My story on durability: Years ago, I bought one new as a gift for my mother, who no longer could see to use her non-autofocus point-n-shoot. She lost it one Fall. It turn out she had dropped it into a planter on her back deck. She found it next Spring when gardening. After a winter in the planter in the rains of Seattle, the roll of film processed okay, and with new batteries, the camera worked fine. Your mileage may differ.
How accurate is the ISO reader and exposure? Thank you for the great video on this camera!
Extremely! Haven't ended up with a bad exposure yet. Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
How does the picture quality of the One Touch compare to the original Nikon L35 AF?
Hi! I know this is an old video but I just got one of these and I'm confused by what I'm seeing in the viewfinder. I keep hearing that I could be seeing a lever, but I only see the little pictures. Where is the lever supposed to be? Thanks!
Will this camera turn on without film? I have one and put batteries in it but it does nothing and I don't have film. It's super clean and nice.
I know this is an old video but i just picked one of these up today and was wondering if there is supposed to be light seals on the back? Mine doesnt seem to have any and the back doesnt look like it forms a very tight seal on its own, have you had any problems with light leaks with this camera?
Hey what lens cover is that?
Can it do up to 36 exposures?
Any idea why my flash won't pop up? I tried the cover the front trick and it didn't work. I don't have film in it and thought maybe that was a feature - Flash won't pop up if there is no film....? I'd love to sell this camera, but trying to trouble shoot it or figure out if it works. Thanks!!
Thanks for the help! I found mine today for 50 cents!
JEALOUS! I love this camera as an everyday carry camera
that just made me so jealous. Ive been looking EVERYWHERE for one and cant find a decent one under like, 80 dollars.
I bought one today and it had a film already loaded, the counter was at "S". I put new batteries in and rewound the film, when I took the film out it still had the leader out. should I put the roll back in or should I get it developed?
My answer might seem a bit lengthy but I want to make sure the camera operations make sense and I answer your question thoroughly. In short, all seems good and I would go and get the film developed. When the counter is at "S" it means that the camera back was open and no film was/is loaded in the camera. It was smart of you to rewind before opening the back but it seems like it was already rewound. Most likely what happened was, the previous owner shot through the roll, then rewound the film and forgot to take it out. When this camera rewinds film it will still leave the leader out of the canister AND will also only count back to "1" or "0" until the back is open, then it moves to "S". So no issues there whatsoever! Sounds like the camera is working perfectly fine! :)
I hit the shudder button one time and I think the camera accidentally rewound itself after i had already taken several pictures. I'm using a roll of Portra 400 35mm film I just bought yesterday. Will the images still come out good once developed?
Thanks for this! I never heard of tricking the camera by scratching the code. When would you recommend doing that? Also, can you be more specific how to scratch the code?
Happy you enjoyed it! I mainly use this technique when I want to push B&W film i.e. Tri-x 400 or HP5+ to 800 or 1600. You could also use this technique if you're a fan of overexposing C-41 film like Portra or Pro 400H by one or two stops. I don't have the link on me right now, but there is a good article online I can share the link with you later today once I find it....maybe I'll make a video on how to do it too :)
@@filmfocused9759 yes! That would be sweet. I have recently fallen back in love with film I got my hands on a Nikon one touch 100, and a Nikon Lite Touch 150 Ed. Super excited to get to shooting. Please do share the article! I'll even try to Google it :) Thanks again

I have a problem with the rewind, it doesn't work, it doesn't rewind. I tried new batteries and it still doesn't work. Is there any way to get my negative out of the camera? Help :(
Just bought 2 in great condition and a iPhone 7+ for $20
Hey, thanks for this video, I've never owned a camera before and have no idea what any camera related stuff means lol, would you be able to tell me if an ebay ad for one of these is legit?
No problem! Glad you enjoyed it. Check the rating of the seller and see what other gear they are selling. Unless they're selling 99% camera equipment and have a near 100% positive rating, I'd look somewhere else. Cheers!
Hi, I have one of these, recovered from my dad's old belongings. I cannot see what is the proper loading for the batteries. Clearly one positive and one negative under the cover, but which way round? Hope you can tell me. Good video though.
Thanks! That's pretty cool. Just follow the guides on the inside of the compartment. I believe the battery closest to the front of the camera has the negative side facing the door. And the battery towards the back of the camera has the positive side facing the door. Hope this helps!
Just what I needed. Not sure if it works yet.
Any idea why the exposure range is? Does it have long exposure in very low light conditions?
Not entirely sure. I've yet to find a manual/information specifying the exact range of shutter speeds. But yes it does slow down the shutter and open up the aperture in low light. It also tries to use the flash whenever it thinks you're in a low light scene. Due to the camera having a built in flash I would assume that the slowest shutter speed isn't long enough for a typical long exposure. In short, if you want to do long exposures, this is not the camera for you. Furthermore, I would suggest not using film for long exposures. Unlike digital, film loses sensitivity to light the longer it's exposed, and has been shown to have mixed results, as well as significantly worse results in comparison to long exposures taken on a digital sensor. Hope this helps! Cheers!
I just loaded a new roll of film of 36 exposures but the camera only autoloaded it past 36 and not 1. Can I take the film out and reload the film back in?
Oh wow! That's strange! Yeah, you can do that no problem. Hope it all works out, cheers!
Thanks. Found this camera at my dad's old house and new batteries won't start it up. I'm trying to get the film out of it and have it developed. Any clues how to do it without power?
Sorry Charles, I'm not too sure how to make the camera rewind without power. My best bet would be to press/move the two buttons on the bottom of the camera in hopes that they release the film advance mechanism. then you could manually rewind the film (If you do try this be sure to be in a light tight room with lathe lights off or using a film changing bag) Good luck, I hope you can find a solution that works!
Can you do a double exposure with the film by putting it back in once it was used the first time?
Sounds like a fun experiment! In theory that would work, but only if the camera begins to load the film, for the second time, from the same exact sprocket holes that were used the first time. Otherwise, it would result in partially overlapping frames. (I'm pretty sure, you asked me this question on my instagram account as well, but I figured answering your question here would benefit everyone watching) Happy Shooting!
I just got this for 10 dollars at a garage sale!
Just to clarify, does the photo count on the camera start at 1 and go up to 36 or does it start at 36 and ends at 1?
starts at 1
How can you cancel the flash in dark places?
Put one finger in the flash,, keep press when you take the photo and will not display.
I shot my camera thought 36 shots without film in it. How do I get it to rewind, the auto rewind is not working in this camera. I wanted to test it without film.
Just open the camera back, the counter will reset itself. Cheers!
hey what do you think is the best film for this camera?
Whatever film you have :)
Where can I get film for this camera?
Most convenience stores like CVS or Walgreens sell cheap consumer 35mm film. You could also go online to Amazon or B&H Photo Video and purchase some film there.
What kind of batteries does it use??
Two double AA battery.
I've bought 2 of these from thrift stores for under $10 canadian ($7.75 USD) guess I got a good deal. :)
That's awesome! Makes me kind of jealous to be honest, haha!
generally unless its an F-mount slr I avoid paying more than 10-15 on a camera or a lens. That way my collection doesn't end up costing an arm and a leg.
Connor Phillips what store willing to sell me one?
Question: isn't the l35af actually say it on it. Because that one just says one touch. And the l35af has the option to choose the film manually. Is this just a newer version or something?
Exactly, its a newer generation of the L35AF. The camera reads the DX codes on films to automatically set the ISO in the camera
Film Focused thanks! Didn't know what a gem I had :].
Glad I could help!
How do you rewind
5:25 Cheers!
Film Focused thank you 👍
I got this free cause my friend owns a photo lab studio and they were about to throw this away 😂
This is the L35 AF2 "One Touch" . Not the original.
