These games always come off as those home-made gamejam-games that were made in like over a weekend and released on GameJolt or something. - It's like "pretty impressive if this was done quickly", but these companies (in this case SEGA, actually as a studio, not even just a publisher) get about 4 years to work on this (and they had an extra year this time). But still they decide to half-ass it and count on it selling because of the public appeal of the Olympics. - It's sad, because it could actually be a good or at least solid game. Even if they did it in this arcade-y cartoonish style and make it more like a party-game, it should especially be technically sound. - But imagine some of the best developers, like a group of different studios, which already have experience with different sports-games, each working on their own one or two sports, so that they could combine them on this one Olympics hub, the quality would be great. It doesn't have to be ultra-realistic or anything, but just believable enough that it's fun end engaging on at least a casual level. - I mean, take the "Skate"-games for example; They're probably some of the most realistic skating-games (there aren't that many), but still mixed in with arcade-like stuff so that it's not too bland. Imagine a bunch of games of that quality (but more compact in size, as it's the Olympics of course, not an open world) thrown together into one, it would make it much more worthwhile for everyone, including the developers and publishers. (Cause really, they might think it will sell regardless of quality, because of the Olympics name, but it's just going to grind to a halt immediately. It's already one of the worst-rated on steam, so it has already lost on that platform alone.)
That soccer game kinda reminds me of a PS1 soccer game that has a unique power/skill for each country. It was so stupid it's so fun. Sadly i forgot the name of the game though.
Honestly, they should have just done a partnership with Nintendo, and add a game-mode to Mario and Sonic that is more focused on countries, actual people, and the more customizable features. Or hell even just a re-skin since Nintendo depends on them for the license to use the name. It could literally just be Mario and Sonic but without the cartoony-kiddish feel and a more grounded realistic madden feel.
