0:20 I think the term you were looking for is 'value for money'. That is the term we use for this. It's not a cheap pedal and I can see that you mean it's a good pedal for people on a budget, but in itself the pedal is good value for money. That is exactly what we mean with the term.
I bought the Ventris a month before this came out. So I have that and the Nemisis. But with the Neuro editor, all engines and presets are interchangeable within each SA sub group. I landed on Source Audio because Eventide's and Strymon's reverbs weren't as good. SA's reverb is the cleanest I've heard since Lexicon's rack units. Btw, I'm confident SA chose mini USB over micro USB because of the much more durable form factor.
I am saving for one of these. It’ll be my first pedal I’ve ever owned. Yours is the first review that said it’s fine and OK, most raved about it and use glowing terms. Since I just play at home, by myself, this will surely be enough to keep me going for ages. Thank you for your clear, honest review.
I completely disagree with the overall opinion in the end. Even though the delays from Strymon are a bit better, the quality of the reverbs are the same. Some people even prefer the Ventris over the Big Sky. My feeling is that you just did not spend enough time tweaking the Collider.
💯Agree, I build, customise and repair musicians' gear for a living. SA's algorithms are right up there with the best. I love Strymon gear, SA is equally as good, just different.
Thanks so much for this video. I was right to be suspicious that I will have trouble accessing presets live without a MIDI controller. Just when I thought the footswitches allowing to scroll forward and backward thru presets is a godsend, the condition of having to remember to have the effect/s off first will confuse me in a spur of the moment situations onstage.
I totally had issues with the flipped phase on the output. It was no problem until I went wet/dry with it, then it sounded like garbage. I emailed Source Audio and they said they will address that issue with future firmware releases.
That's interesting, as I mentioned I had a similar issue with it. When I contacted them about it over a year ago, they said it was more efficient to inverse the phase. Made no sense to me. Good to hear they're going to fix the issue.
@@ManBunMetalHead got my collider today and just out the box it’s sounds awesome. Now to spend all night programming the midi. Probably gonna have to watch your es8 videos some more ;)
Thanks for posting such a clear explanation. I do have one question that I didn't see you address. Why does the preset light keep blinking and is there a way to turn it off (or make it stop blinking) without saving settings as a preset?
What is the purpose of the 1/4 to 1/8 cable? Expression pedals (that I know of) are usually 1/4 to 1/4, and controlling from a mobile device is usually (that I know of) 1/8 to 1/8, so, what am I not thinking of as the purpose for this cable? Are the Neuro specific external control devices 1/4 to 1/8? From reading the manual it seems that I can connect those to the Pedal In as well as the Control in.....
Okay...I think I figured it out for any other readers that might wonder- It looks like you can use INPUT (1/4) # 2 ALSO as a connection to the Neuro App to control things. So, the theoretical use case might be an expression pedal or one of the SA's external controller switches in Pedal In, a SA tap switch or Hot Hand or something in CTRL, and then still having the ability to control via the App through Input 2. Wild.......
Late to the party and could be wrong but phase inversion on a stereo reverb is normal. I heard somewhere that there's no true stereo reverb and generally they'll take the mono signal and invert on the right hand side (with other tricks). Again could be wrong but my understanding would be that any stereo reverb does this, or if not then it may not be great
hey good stuff! what happens when you turn the feedback all the way up, does it have infinite reverb and delay? im trying to figure out if i can use this thing for dub mixing, thx in advance
Hey I'm using es5 and collider, when I turn on both rever and delay ,it makes such a loud shimmering noise man.. no matter how less control 1 and control 2 I don't know why
Hey Man, Thanks for the review and going through some of its paces. Could you tell me where I could get some info on the outputs having a inverse phase. Just not to sure what that means. Just picked one up today and to me so far, just okay, but haven't dove in yet. Anyway, Many Thanks again and hope to hear back about the output inverse phase thing... Jack...
It's probably not something you'll need to worry about unless you run the Collider in parallel with another pedal. I'll be making a video on phase cancellation in the future.
@@ManBunMetalHead Thanks Buddy, Yeah ,will look for the video, I do run 2 amps and sometimes 3 with a kemper as well. So always checking phase issues ect... I just try to go with what sounds best. Thanks again, ...
@@jz6965 Hey, Jack. Thanks for picking up the Collider! If you have any questions about our gear, please email us at contact@sourceaudio.net and we will be more than happy to answer them. Is it true that the Collider's preset switching takes between 200 ms and 1 second (when using Midi / Effects Switcher)? I would need something like the collider for my live pedalboard, but waiting a second for the sound to appear is not okay at all. Do you have any experience with that? I've also read that the delay/reverb unnaturally stops immediately when turning the collider of - is that true?
You think this is not as good as strymon because it is not as expensive? You are so wrong haha This has more powerful dsp (dual) and sounds better than blue sky (v1) and delays sound better than the strymon timeline. Feel free to get ripped off by strymon though 👍
I must confess, I’m frustrated with this video. As a preface, I own Strymon pedals as well as this one and I adore them all. What is this baffling claim that a $350 dollar pedal is considered a budget purchase? That’s relatively inexpensive if you’re buying a guitar, but that’s fairly steep for a pedal. A $175 dollar pedal isn’t budget either. The later part of your video says that folks should save up for (as an example) Boss pedals. Boss pedals average 100-150 bucks, but I suppose those are budget pedals too, eh? Another thing that confused me… why use such bland guitar playing? I’m not suggesting you perform some prog metal shreds, but putting some musicality into the tone demos would’ve been much appreciated. It truly feels like you read the instructions, tried the pedal out for a few minutes and promptly decided to start filming. This pedal was not done justice here.
I have this pedal as well as a Boss RV500 and DD500. The Collider is great and if you wanna save space and weight it’s the way to go. If you want every version of delay and reverb, there are other better options.
You can get a nemesis for $300. Is that consider a budget pedal? All this pedals use algorithms. It probably doesn’t take muck to load one side with something different.
I actually like that he did this. Alot of reviews only highlight the positive aspects of pedals. I like reviews that cover everything, good and bad. This way, I know exactly what to expect and am not let down.
This guy knows nothing about reverbs or delays as you can tell by the way he plays to demo the different options. The reverse delay for example was popular in the 1960s and it's usually used with slow timing not rapid as he uses. This is NOT a budget pedal. Pete Thorn who played with Chris Cornell, Jewel and other pros gives a true review and says these are lush studio quality reverbs which they are. The Reverbs on this unit annihilate the strymon big sky and even the Empress reverb. He never demoed how to create a slap-back which is very popular with rockabilly. This is the reason the video has so many dislikes.
@@trenthogan4212 Have to agree, I have owned the Bigsky, Specular Tempus and others, the Collider is the best of the bunch based on what my ears tell me. The Collider is also very user friendly.

An unmentioned advantage, it saves real estate on a small pedalboard. Thanks for a great walk through and demo.
