- We demo the Source Audio Collider delay & reverb, Wampler Terraform multi modulation, Walrus Audio Kangra octave fuzz/filter and Neo Instruments Drive In guitar effects pedals.
Welcome to Pedal Jams, where we feature four guitar effects pedals that are new (to us anyway).
Our agenda is purely to plug them in, see what cool sounds and features we find. We also jam at the end over a backing track.
Life too short for long RUclips videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below.
Enjoy the episode!

37:45 Lovely stuff with the Collider, fellas!
Yessss was waiting for the Collider on TPS
You should really do a quick read in the manual of the collider, a simple push of a button and you can have dual delay or dual reverb, its a amazing feature! the unlock button can get so much more stuff out of this ambience machine and you don't have to be educated or have a screen in front of you to pull it off. For us simple minded people that are allergic to screens and menu diving its a must have. Nice episode, the intro had me believing the korg mike had made a comeback ;)
The Teraform and Collider are so good, I may never need another modulation, reverb, or delay pedal again.
35:20 listening to that while walking in circles shrink wrapping skids at work had to be the most trippy spaceballs experience I’ve ever had.
I have had the drive in for at least a year and a half. I got it when it came out. It's a tube screamer with a bass knob basically but in reality it's really great. It has a little more than other pedals like it. It stacks beautifully with other drives. It's really great to have around and I love it. I feel like it hasn't gotten the love it deserved. Glad you guys featured it.
Yup the Terrafom and Collider sound stellar. The OD sounded great as well, thanks guy's. How fun to do what you do!
That 3/4 gag during the terraform intro was amazing 👍
I really like the current release schedule! Friday noon full blown episode, monday night vcq, tuesday some light-hearted pedal check. Really don't mind a wednesday vlog (be it Mick or Dan topic) but that's pushing the time limits and probably very much your available time if regular schedule :) Btw would be interesting to see the MXR's new Timmy mini pedal! The Drive In has a really lovely, crunchy character.
If you find english to german funny, try looking up english to finnish also. Might get a good laugh.
That was a great jam fellas! Every one of these pedals sounded amazing in context with that track.
Your show is always such a warm and encouraging moment. Mass of Tone.
We need a “buy now” button, or maybe “buy now, worry later about bankruptcy” one :)
Haha indeed! And maybe a third button: "mortgage refi now"
Actually it turns out that I need very few of these devices. Seldom more than two or three from any given episode.
@@lynetteaylsworth4739 So...let's say about 200 pedals after 100 episodes. At a minumum. :D
Lynette Aylsworth oh, I think we can all agree that some songs simply scream for a guitar riff that sounds like a furious duck :)
Looks like it's gonna be a great episode! Can't wait to get into it :)
Loved the quack on the Kanga, and the mixing job you guys did for each other. That ending was epic.
Great show guys- I love the deep dve into a series of new pedals- so many pedals out there it's just super handy to have TPS as a filter!
I could listen to that jam all day long
Loved the jam at the end there.
FYI for the Collider, there's an unlock function that'll let you run 2 delays or 2 reverb. It's also this mode that let's you run reverb into delay, just set the reverb on the delay side and vice versa. You can set this through the app or by holding down the control button and turning the algorithm selector knob.
Fark! That’s cool.
Thank you
Walrus pedals are like taquitos: so much better than you expect, especially if you’re stoned.
Cheers! My Terraform arrives today!
How was it?
How you liking the Terraform David?
So glad you guys gave the Collider a quick run through. This has been on my wish list but was waiting until your demo. Now it’s on the imminent buy list. For everything else there’s magic credit cards 😂
that jam at the end was AWESOME!!!!!!!
That Wampler is perfect to replace the Line 6 mod pedal on my coverband board. Everything you need in half the size and great sound to boot.
"I haven't got an expression pedal" said the guy surrounded a NAMM's worth amount of gear. Haha...no no seriously though, I love you guys, and love these pedal jams, keep it up!
Awesome jamming!! Kudos!
It is named Collider for a very good reason. Love it. Very handy with the 4 favorite setting save. It is easy to scroll up or down. My other pedals needs two simultaneous buttons hit to scroll, what a pain on the go.
Best JAmm-Arge Ever Fellas --- Those Pedals were great for mixing on the fly --- Brillianti
Some sweet pedals on the board today!
Oh man, that jam at the end is good stuff!
Nice Schwang there at the end of the video!! Groovy Baby!!! Great info as usual. All the best to you and yours in the New Year!!
It seems you like the terraform a lot! You usually don't wow for digital modulation but this time you maybe you do!
really like hearing them in a mix
Glad to see some IRON DISCIPLINE being used not to mouth too many 'wow' expressions when playing with the filter on the Kangra. :)
Ah man. That was SO hard.
Us old 303 lovers are longtime fans of the filter-sweep. I hope that control has an expression pedal input.
Just got off work, heading home to watch the show!!!!!
Cheers chaps, fab episode, great intro, great pedals, cool jam. Nice! For those unsure: autowah = a little elf-o operates your treadle rhythmically, envelope follower = pick attack operates your treadle. Filter mouth optional in the latter case. :)
Well Bugger me I love this show. That jam is delicious. You're so complimentary to each others styles, dare I say completing. I sincerely hope you both never retire from this GigRig. Oh by the way, Ii've figured of the marketing video for the D&M FUZZ pedal. Picture the Alps. Helicopter being flown by the pedal maker. Dan and Mick playing thunderous tones and setting off avalanches! Love your work 🙌🏼
That Kangra is BRILLIANT. So funky and nasty. Must have.
Thanks guys. Would love to see you do a deep dive on the Terraform. There’s so much there that you could not cover in a Pedal Jam episode.
Came back and found this video. You've just recommended the Collider to me here in 2021, and I'm loving what I'm hearing! Now saving up my coins of the realm to get one, cheers!
Hooray!
@@ThatPedalShow It'd be my first-ever pedal, even after playing 28 years. Go big or go home, eh? Thanks, Aaron
nice outside riff at 12:42.. more o that please! cheers and thanks for another great episode
I love the binary counting preset lights on the Terraform. 2^4 for the win!
Well, I guess those house repairs will need to wait another month...
Superb playing in the jam at the end from both of you - loved it!
The Wampler on Dimension - SOLD! Shout to all the Chorus lovers out there. Both of us.
Awesome jam at the end, guys :-) It's hard to compare sounds on YourTube with sounds from my own gear, but what the Neo Drive appeared to be doing to the signal sounded a lot like my HoneyBee. Seems like a killer pedal either way - light overdrives that compress just enough to feel good without destroying the dynamics are so cool.
I just watched aTPS episode from 4 years ago and mick was using the lone star and I though, I haven’t seen that thing for a while, and sure enough this episode comes out! Sounds great fellas, keep it up!
OMG, have we been doing this for four years!?
I liked the "Drive In" best on it's max drive setting, which is a bit odd 'cos most gain pedals sound a bit over-cooked on 10. Really impressed with the way you guys can find moves that best compliment each pedal in the jams.
sweet jam guys★★★★★
The Lone Star reminded me I would love the see you guys squeezing magic tones out of a Mesa Fillmore.
Yeah!
Hey dudes! Kangra stuff sounds awesome! I use it a few diff ways actually! Fuzz (vintage side, roll the vol dowm) and than also using the filter on (no envelope) with the fuzz to get a sort of filtered Queens Of the Stone Age type fuzz. Also use the clean filter side with the envelope on (no expression) for some Jerry Garcia vowel like auto wah (resonance down low), and then I also use it with the expression pedal as a ripping fuzz with filter or no fuzz and filtering (great for ambient sweeps as if you were using a vol pedal, and a few other ways too)! Thx! Love the vid
Jared! Thanks for the comments - we must try the expression pedal thing. Cheers!
It's been two years (and longer) ago, but I'm rewatching this. Simply since after a year or two, at least two of these are commonly found on pedalboards. Arguably at least one is a modern classic. At the start of the video now, but I will enjoy this!
Modern classic being the collider?
@@MattD86 Yes, you even find the Collider used by synth players for example. The other quite common pedal used is the Terraform.
I want there to be bubbles like from the old vh1 music videos..."this lick originated from [track title]"....lol, great as always
The Terraform sounds GREAT
Awaiting Mick's "everything at 2 o'clock" verdict with the Drive In... 5:00 🤣 sounds quite good!
Wow ! Spectacular outro jam there Dan !! 👍
Cheers mate 🙏
Great episode, loved both of your playing at the end, you can really tell you guys were enjoying this weeks selection of toneage! You Rock/Jazz!
Have you ever thought of doing an episode where you take a look at a viewers homemade board, take the P out of it and send them on their way? Or even, have a look around, discuss options for improvement, troubleshoot and send them on their way? I’m sure there are countless other GAS suffering, home-made pedalboard tweakers out there, who have swollen power supplies, inflamed cable routing and a bad case of the hums.
Not my board, obviously, that’d just be silly.
Or maybe my board, yes, pick me!
We like this.. :0)
I found the jam at the end of the video to be particularly inspiring. Thanks, as always guys. Also, it occurred to me - what a luxury to have someone twiddle your knobs while you play. I wonder if my wife is free, right now...
Thank you! Hahahahahah
German is very lovely, Steinhardt ~ Stein-hart = Hard like a Stone
edit: "-dt" endings are probably Old High German or something like that, a Germanist could maybe tell you more.
...I always like how people on the internet go crazy when we combine 2 or 3 words into a long sausage of letters. That's just how this language works. A chair where you sit to try Guitars can be a "Gitarrenausprobierstuhl".
I just got a 30" gitarrenausprobierstuhl from Roland.
I think both English words, stone and hard, have Germanic (Saxon) roots.
meanwhile i'm pretty sure it's not old high german that's too old^^ But i'm from Austria and here there's also people called "Steinhardt" and in Germany there's a village called "Steinhardt" since 1148 according to google.
@@Zwidawurzn haha, only an austrian has a name like yours ;) (ah aus AUT) what would zwidawurzn be in english?
Beautiful young female German teacher to room of horny adolescents ... "Are there any words you would like me to translate?"
"Yea miss. What's the German word for hard?"
"Hart"
"and miss, what's the German word for on?"
"Auf"
Cue lots of childish sniggering. 😁😂🤣
Just picked up a drive in for £65, seems like a bargain! What a sound, and that wampler... can’t wait to get one and team it up with a volante;)
I feel like the neo has ocdish qualities to it very nice! Also dan had a few nice jerry garcia licks goin in the end.
I didn't "need" another dirt box, but that Neo pedal sounded cool. Found a good deal at one of the big US online retailers. Pedal is in hand, and it is really good. Interaction of the color and drive provides for a lot of different sounds.
So much in reserve from this bunch, but nicely covered due to the functions. Moving on to the jam time... here's the craziest setting I can muster, lets see how you get on..... and boy did you get on it .. Didn't they do well.
"Not real crap." I really needed that clarification. I was starting to worry a bit.
Nice to see the Mesa making appearances again.
Welcome back, Lonestar! Can’t wait to hear this... I’m a regular Boogie user and wonder if you have any tips and tricks on how to use it (or “what not to do”).
Not so much in this episode....... Maybe there’s a vid there somewhere. :0)
I traded in my candy apple red 63 time machine custom shop Telecaster for a sonic blue Stratocaster. I don’t know why that is significant but I just thought you should know. 😏. Love your show guys! You both inspire me and help me with gear decisions. Thanks for what you do.
Well, buyers remorse, I got the Tele back. I’m back to being a Dan now. Although I play more like Mick.
Dan.... some tasty tones at the end, brother.
H9 Also allows pre and post per sound. I used that just for the univibe :)
Ordered the The Neo -Drive In tonight. Heads up. They are marked down as of today on Sweetwater and Reverb. If you want one act quick $99
That walrus pedal sounds like plugging into a duck's butt. Skipping to the collider and awaiting the lonestar.. love you guys.
Mesa3077Boogie “Did somebody step on a duck?”
- Rodney Dangerfield.
RUclips’s compression just doesn’t do justice to the transparency of The Duck’s Butt Fuzz!
I suggest you try it in private...very privately...and hear the true sound of going straight into the Dick’s Butt.
@@CorbCorbin amazing
Bahahaha
Hey Dan, You look like you're in a happy place, brother. There's a positive, calm, centered energy about you. Whatever it is you're doing, keep doing it. Power to you!
Micks Hand at 05:00 :D his all-knobs-at-14h-sound-best-theory was right again
If Dan was a fuzz, he would be the Steinhardt German-ium fuzz. That is all.
p.s. keep up the great work chaps!
Great jam with some tasty knob tweaking :)
The joy of being a late joiner is the rich back catalogue of videos at my disposal. ❤️ Have you guys ever featured an EHX Octavix? YT isn't being obvious about that. I'm having fun learning to love fuzz -- something about which I've had no love whatsoever -- and that pedal seems pretty unique with its 9V & 24V switching. Not something I'm going to become conversant with in just a few days. Truth be told, it's only because of _Live At Leeds_ that I'm at all interested in fuzz. Pete Townsend got some freaking incredible tones on that album. I want to explore that.
Dear TPS,
Because of you I bought the Replicator and Hall of Fame 2, my bank accounts hates you, I do love you anyway. Greetings from french Alps.
Bonjour Les Alps! We’re broke too. Just bought a blimmin Fulltone TTE. Gah.
Hey Mick, recently picked up an old (2012) 65 AVRI strat and coincidentally ran across a review and when I got to the last paragraph and saw the commentary about the author having played the 62 for some years and having had been compelled to change the pickups in it which got me thinking so I scrolled back up and lo and behold it’s your name I saw as author. Given the recent pickup swapping in your blue 62 AVRI I definitely have some feeling of solidarity that even after all these years of experimenting it’s genuinely hard to stay in one place with our rigs. And maybe also some extra appreciation for all the wonderful content you and Dan bring us
Of course I had to pause just now and give Lido Shuffle a spin…probably the first time I’ve heard it since the early 1980s. Holds up!
Mick´s strat with the Neo Drive In sounds great btw.
Has a Strat into crancked Bassman like character to it,- very suited for classic hard rock, southern rock and dark country styles of music...
Might just need one.
The winner in this episode?
Those ‘64 pickups.
I’ve been looking at pedals with both delay and reverb, so thanks for introducing me to the Source Audio Collider
I love that by 2:30 this video was already off the rails... haha
Great player, great guitar, through a great amp...add a decent/good/excellent effects = awesome sounds! Wampler pedal seems very interesting, especially with the placement feature?
Super show. Never fails. Would it be possible to have a close up camera on the pedals to show the adjustments you are making. Would help me with comparing with my current pedals & to convince The Owl Family these are informed buying decisions. 🦉🤦🏼♀️🦉
The HX stomp also as the Pre/post thing but the post part is stereo, while other units when using the pre/post feature you only have 2 mono effects.
Oh man, great jam! You both killed it! One of you playing sound engineer for the other is awesome, and must be a lot of fun, too. If I may ask, is there a way that's not too crazy complicated to have a small inset of the db meter when you flip to pedal cam? It would give a nice reference point, at least when doing shows on gain stacking and such. Cheers guys. Love the show.
Krankenwagen! Cheers from Germany
The Strymon Mobius provides a pre/post mode, too. : )
At 15:07 when Mick put them all together, it almost sounded like Dan had been transformed into a reincarnated Frank Zappa. Zappa used a lot of boosted mid frequencies that sounded like he turned on a Wah and left it in a pronounce mid boost. Sounded cool.
That Collider Delay+Reverb pedal is amazing - I pulled the trigger on it when first came out, just lovely! And that Neo Drive In sounds great as well, was actually thinking of getting the Greer Lightspeed, but maybe I should go for this overdrive instead... anyone here has the Drive In on their boards?
I don't have the Drive In, but do have a Lightspeed. To my ear, they are very different types of pedals. The Lightspeed is very transparent and really just 'makes better' your amp or other dirt pedals, and could be used as an always on pedal. The Drive In sounds more like a distinct overdrive tone. You could leave it always on as a rhythm tone, but could also kick it on for a specific tone. I suppose it depends on which of those you are after. The Drive In does sound good though.
The Strymon Mobius also has the Pre/Post switching option.
as does the H9
Blue is sounding great to my old ear-'oles. Ron Ellis, you say? Right, then, I'm getting a set.
Yep. I’m super duper happy.
It appears they are next to impossible to get your hand on.
Thanks
Wampler really needs a hip designer for the look of their pedals. Would put them in a new category all together.
Yeah- looks lame- sounds pretty sterile too. Not my thing----
pedal gazer He’s based in Texas. Not enough drugs 🤪. If he was in Vegas his pedals would have arms and give you a hug.
Good assessment. Back in the day Fulltone was setting the boutique bar with Z-Vex going above and beyond. Just not the case anymore. Earthquaker and Stone Deaf first off the top of my head for reference!
I had a Boogie that sounded like the Kangra. Cost me £250 to get it fixed.
Hey guys, that was fun!
Have you ever told the story of how you two met and started TPS? I'm digging through the archives with glazed-over eyes. 😁
Hey guys! Love all the content you are putting out recently! Love the old stuff too, but the volume of content you are hitting lately is crazy!
Question for Mic... where is that riff from that you play so often? Today, you played it with the Wampler Terraform on, but you often play it with crazy fuzz too including on the video at ATB guitars with the 61 (or 62?) Strat and the Fuzz episode recently as well. It sounds amazing all the time!
The pre/post mode on the wampler is also a feature on eventide pedals, I have a H9 set up in that mode using 2 loops on the G2 in a wet/dry rig, one before the drives for pre mode and one after for post (duh) I use midi to call up whichever preset I need whether it’s a pre effect like octave which will go to both amps and modulation which goes to just the wet amp or I have the option of having chorus on both amps, it’s ridiculously versatile
3:03 The eyes. Gold.
Mick.... mate, you dont need a Vintage Strat any more... the pickups in Blue are killer. Well done... but also... you bugger... making us all want pickups we cant actually buy :-)
The Collider can do more than that, too. Go check out Pete Thorn’s demo for some sweet playing and concise examples. Love you guys! Keep it up.
Auto-wah, the pedal automatically "rocks the wah" at a set rate typically determined by a pot. Envelope filters are pick sensitive. I just realized this myself recently...
Ah, thank you!
These days autowahs can be as you stated (lfo controlled sweep), but they can also be envelope controlled (input intensity controlled sweep) and still be called autowahs.
Envelope filters refer specifically to the way the filter sweep is controlled.
