Hi from England, I've just purchased this pedal. As a 73yr old player I'm not used to all this modern stuff. You have given the best demo yet, I understand it. I like the oil can with the room reverb. Great, thank you. Just subbed.
I can hear this man talking and playing with delay and reverb for hours...Bill, you have the ability to communicate calm, relax and good emotions! Thanks for every single video. You're the master!
Hey Bill... Im 63 & have played since I was a kid...played the bar scene and done original music too. I just wanted to say you have become someone I enjoy listening to... Ive got a Big Sky, but I just ordered a Collider.. I also enjoy doing ambient music... when I was a kid I did not care for vocals..to me they interfered with the music, haha...my first 1/2 dozen albums were Ventures albums, and even today I love instrumental music, prog rock, jazz & fusion. I play music with a lot of younger musicians and love music more than ever, but Ive had to switch to a Strandberg prog guitar that weighs 5 pounds and has an ergonomic neck shape which helps with hand fatigue.. I just want to say Thankyou for being real... you seem like a genuinely nice person. Im sure that jamming with you would be very enjoyable.. Take care my friend & please keep up the good work.. there are many of us that enjoy what you have to say & play, & we may not speak up much but were out here enjoying your take on things!!
I'm 54, and a drummer by trade. I'm only now picking up guitar, built a rig, and have just ordered a Collider. Instrumental post-rock and ambient/atmospheric are my missions. Glad to see another in the same vein...
Honestly that shimmer setting is beyond impressive, the ability to stack with the E-dome using the "secret" is why I bought this. COVID has ment I've been waiting for this to arrive for 2 months but it looks like this is the week 😇👌
Yours are the best ambient demos anywhere! Love the pace - you get right to the sounds with a minimum of description and so there is more to hear in a shorter amount of time. Really, really well done. Thanks!
Bill, I just woke up and am sitting drinking my coffee and just previously purchased the collider , it was a lil bit of a frustration at first ( I as well play the 277 PRS `, anyway brother got it dialed in and must say you are a true inspiration and a master guitar player , I wish you a happy new year and wanted to say your videos are absolutely amazing , bought all your albums and if ever in the charlotte NC area and have a minute please swing by the house so my wife and I can make you dinner ! thanks again bill for filling my heart with your amazing music
Great review as always. I love the sounds you come up with! I absolutely love this verb/delay box. Just the right balance of control and versatility to make it a creative machine. You should definitely publish some presets on the Neuro App. That would be incredible.
I have a big sky and timeline and only just discovered this pedal. Besides having much simpler controls and fantastic sounding effects the thing that made me buy this was the ability to do series and parallel routing which basically makes this a perfect wet dry or wet dry wet solution. Add to this the compact size I have basically freed up a huge amount of space on my pedalboard for other pedals. Needless to say the big sky and timeline are now heading to eBay and someone else's pedalboard.
I want it so much!! The reverb sounds (to my ears) better than any other reverb pedal I've heard. And with your playing = ambient tones for days! Not to mention the delay is awesome too! Bill, your videos do horrible things for my wallet... Keep up the good work! Did I mention how good that thing sounds?!!
Source Audio reverb & delay units, to me, have a specific "metallic" sound in their products. I've noticed it in other videos & I hear it here, too. Interesting.
Thank you for all your great reviews. Have you tested any Reverb/Delay plug-ins? What is your opinion of software solutions, please? I am running all my amplification and effects in software (connection my guitar through a ADC to either Mac or PC - I am generally a software/digital guy, although I appreciate analog turntable sound 😄).
Hey Michael: Here's a playlist of all the plugins that I have demoed thus far: ruclips.net/p/PLseB5HzFJKVwc_cu14fy_GcKL4MKXhg-e In addition, I have a number of vids discussing the process of recording ambient guitar.
I am comparing the collider and secular tempus. I have a gfi reverb v2. These are great videos that you produce! I’m leaning towards the collider because of the quality of the delay and because I have a specular reverb v2 and it’s an amazing reverb unit. I have the Strymon big sky, blue sky, and time line. I’m an overdrive and delay, reverb, enthusiast.
As always a great demo Bill - the delays and reverbs sound good. I've tended to be a Strymon guy but I'll check out Source Audio, especially the Collider - delay and reverb in one pedal would be useful. I assume you have the SA Collider at the end of the chain - have you tried it in front of the Iridium? It seems more logical to an old guy like me .. :-)
That shimmer setting is the sound I imagine will be playing as I walk up to the Pearly Gates - unless I'm on the down escalator that is! Very tempted by this pedal. By the way Bill, I think your guitar strap is on the wrong way round? 😊
Can anyone tell me, I want to use this with a Synthesizer and it will be on my desk. Is there a way you can hold/freeze the reverb without having to have a finger or foot pressed on the reverb switch? That’s because I’ll want to freeze reverb then have both hands free to play keys.....
The Reverb is much nicer than the delay which makes the Ventris way more appealing . I’m not much of a delay fan . But I have a MoogF 101 Delay and the Strymon ElCaptain not sure if I spelled them right.
Bill, I been watching you for a couple of months now. Thanks for the great videos. I have a request for one I think may be good. Could you do an in depth video (compare/contrast) what the advantages would be of buying the two separate units vs buying this single unit. I love this single pedal (your presentation in this video is fantastic) but there is obviously more to the decision of it being cheaper and taking up less space or they would probably quit making the two separate units. When would the things left out of the combo unit justify the price increase and amount of space used of the two separate units together? Sorry if I am not clear. I seemed to be having trouble wording this thought/question today.
Hello, thanks for your amazing channel. Question from a harp player here! Do you know if it is by any chance possible to have one type of sound on the left and another one on the right in stereo mode? I own an electric harp with stereo mode (left/right) possible
Yes, it has a split stereo option. But to be sure it does what you want, please check the manual on page 22: www.sourceaudio.net/colliderusermanual.html
Thanks for the great video! Question: Whenever I hear any stereo-ness, it always sounds very hard-panned (e.g. the delay repeats are hard-panned L-R-L-R...). Is that always the case for any aspects of this pedal that involve stereo? Or is it possible to have it be not quite so "hard-panned" to the extreme? Like for instance, a more subtle panning (50% L - 50% R, or similar), or a L-R-L-R slow sweep back & forth? Because the total hard-panned repeats sound very jarring to me. Thanks!
In this video I am using the Strymon Iridium into a volume pedal into the Collider. Stereo outputs go into the computer interface. All gear is listed in the video description.
Questions: Can you choose how you wanna run the signal? R to D, D to R or Parallel? Can you load different reverbs and delays onto the unit like you could with the Nemesis and Ventris? PS. Did Collider just slapped Specular Tempus in the face? ;)
I did not show it, but there is an "unlock" feature that allows to to swap the order of delay and reverb (or run 2 delays or 2 reverbs). In addition, there is an option to set the signal path to parallel in the Neuro app.
@@chordsoforion That's huge! Thanks for pointing that out even if it wasn't in the video, but wow that's a selling point for me to not only change the order but be able to run a dual delay or dual reverb!
same. i have the bigsky, and i'm planning to replace it with either the tempus or the collider. The collider looks easier to navigate, edit and change preset on live settings than the tempus.
@Fender 5150 hi there. I'm still with my bigsky. I decided to just stick with it since it sounds good and easy to navigate. I'm kinda lazy to tweak it these past few months 😬
If you are in the USA, I would recommend buying both pedals from reputable online retailers with a good return policy, try them both out together, and send back the one that you don't like. I do it all the time - great way to confirm your purchase. I even will let the sales rep know that is what I will be doing, and they are always happy to oblige. The return shipping for a pedal is not much more than the cost of driving to a music store, so NBD.
This is a great demo , it would be ~The Best ~ if you were to show all us numbskulls how to create a preset without using the computer or phone , I loved my m13 and had it from when they first came out . I remember feeling the same way about that unit as I now do this one > ??? Of course that changed very quickly . If I may say so , I think there are others like me who could get over that fear if we knew ( in non techno terms ) >HOW TO MAKE A PRESET< . The manuel is written by algo neurologist's , not musicians like me , my hats off to the youth of today who may think me a fool , I do respect your knowldge of it - peace -you are in a golden age .
having ventris, heard best things about nemesis. one of the strongest ventris sides is the true spring which is sounds very true indeed (having analog springs in my combo to compare). even though this mashup seems convincing, still it misses dual reverb feature which was the major selling point (running in parallel or into each other). If you're really into reverbs, it's better to save up for ventris (second hand?) and buy delay separately. I don't know if the mashup has true bypass. ventris has, nemesis doesn't. anyway! I'm happy the collider is out, because it means that both pedals will continue to get new firmwares. plus, someone could get the best of two worlds spending less.
Июльское Утро It’s got true bypass, buffered and soft with trails. Good points you raised, and I agree even if this doesn’t quite fit someone’s usage scenarios it is a wonderful thing this product exists and will have SA’s excellent ongoing support. I do have the Ventris and around a dozen other reverbs and a dozen delays but still want the Collider. I like the broader scope to edit and have presets compared to things like Quiet Theory Prelude and EQD Avalanche Run in terms of combo units. But fair points you make about more normative guitar usage and the decisions for the features/tone/board space considerations. Though I don’t play guitar so it’s in ways easier to forget practicality and have more time based pedals than would be sane on a pedal board. Hope this is all leading up to a dual DSP modulation pedal from them, that would be excellent.
Yes, with the "unlock" feature you can set up dual delay or dual reverb effects. You can set dual delay presets so that each delay is set to a different beat division and sync them up with the Tap Tempo. You can stack them, run them in parallel or split them and run a different effect to each of the two Outputs. Here is a demo we produced that explains how to stack dual delay effects - ruclips.net/video/ey0O-GFjNsk/видео.html
is it possible to change the default algorithms to some additional ones from ventris/nemesis (overwriting them, strictly speaking)? ps: please, add gated reverb algo!
Bill, you are a true master of delay and reverb. Thanks so much for checking out the Collider - love what you did with it.
When used in stereo, will the delay only play back as a ping-pong?

My favorite demo of the collider so far, very well done and nice that you go through all the algos. Very well done sir.

An excellent and concise demo of the deeply rich feature set on this pedal. Thank you for making this video, it was extremely helpful!

Changing the pitch of the shimmer through the app can get you some very deep tones by setting it an octave down instead of up.
I don't believe the Collider offers this. On the Ventris however, you can change the shimmer type to different intervals.
@@KipCount Sure enough you are right. They didn't include that feature in the Collider like they did in the Ventris.
Been researching this pedal for like a month and NOW just getting to your video how tf...

Collider vs specular tempus. What's the best?
Bought this for the edome reverb. Love em all. But damn. The edome verb is big sky-ish.

I believe this is a feature in Eventides Space pedal on the "Blackhole" Algorithm/preset. Not sure about the Source Audio Collider.

Can this pedal do circular delay?
It can do 100% wet reverb for drones without the volume pedal right?
Correct.
That is a real nice pedal! It sounds better than the boss rv-500.
can you create presets that combine digital delay, ping pong delay and dynamic reverb? or you are limited to the modes on the pedal?
You might want to check into the Neuro desktop or mobile editor: www.sourceaudio.net/neuro-editors.html
So what’s the signal flow for both effects? Delay and Reverb in parallel? Delay in series into Reverb? Reverb in series into Delay possible? Cheers
the first 2 are possible, but the last is not.
