If the top strut mount was so loose you could move it with your fingers the suspension in that corner would collapse under driving loads. It’ll be the bearing in the top strut mount clunking. Change the strut mount.

I've got a knocking noise coming from the back driver's side, took it to the mechanic who had a look at the shocks and suspension, nothing. The knocking doesn't happen when the boot is empty, but when there's a bit of weight in the back it becomes apparent and if the boot is full, there the knocking becomes more intense and loud. Not sure what it is tbh as the mechanic wouldve picked up anything relating to the brakes or suspension.

It could be down the tie rod and alignment or maybe a bent front shock? Iv replaced the rear shocks nd the cars passed the mot as well as having new coils but knocking still there. Similar to yours. It's more so when the cars got things in so it may be the same thing. Going to take a look at the weekend and will let you know if I figure it out mate.
