I love how this song uses its odd time signature, staying true to it by using odd numbers of audible beats. This creates a tense and exciting yet still comfortable sense of time pressure and urgency.
Roxanne is on their first album “Outlandos D’Amour”
Synchronicity is The Police’s 5th and final album. Sting was the bass player, lead vocalist, Andy Summers on guitar and Stewart Copeland is on drums they both sang backing vocals when in concert.
First song they released was “Fallout” in 1977 which was a punk song. Then it was “Roxanne” - released 1978. “Roxanne” originally flopped but after a tour of the US and the song being re-released in 1979 it become a hit. They started out as a punk band in 1977 then by 1979/80 found their own sound (a mix of reggae, punk, jazz and pop).
Please react The Police- Synchronicity II too.
Sting's solo career is a mixed bag. Good jazzy stuff sometimes. Dream of the Blue Turtles and Soul Cages are both solid albums all the way through. I also like some stuff off of Nothing like the Sun and Ten Summoners' Tales. Most of the rest of his solo work isn't consistently great, though there are peaks of awesome stuff.
sting plays bass , Andy Summers is guitar , Stewart Copeland is the drummer
Amazed to hear you missed the song back in 1983 where it was the biggest album and tour from the biggest band in the world who dominated the social conscience of the United States
Hey Rob! Love The Police! Sting plays Bass. Stewart Copeland on drums... Now in the Power Trio Oysterhead, with Les Claypool of Primus and Trey Anastasio of Phish (three amazing musicians). Andy Summers on Guitar... not sure what he is up to, maybe producing? This was their last album before breaking up.
Albums:
Outlandos d'Amour (1978) , Rob, those first hits: "So Lonely" "Roxanne" "Can't Stand Losing You"
Reggatta de Blanc (1979)
Zenyatta Mondatta (1980)
Ghost in the Machine (1981)
Synchronicity (1983) Hits on this album: "Every Breath You Take" "King of Pain" "Wrapped Around Your Finger"
Now can you get back to the NEW Power Trio, The Warning! Please?
More albums the police please
Roxanne was their 1st album. This was the 5th album.
Two birds one stone, check out drumming sensation Yoyoka, playing Murder by Numbers when she was 9 (last year). She’s played with Fallout Boy, Cyndi Lauper, been on Ellen show, publicly praised by Robert Plant, Dave Grohl, RHCP, RATM, etc... infectious lil smile

I love The Police. Please react Eurythmics singing Sweet Dreams.
Stewart coppeland andy summers the best
You're an old fart like me how did you miss this in 1983? It would have won best album Grammy but Thriller took them all
Personally I think Synchronicity 2 is a better song than this one. Definitely more melodic
