Im an avid hiker and photographer, Ive hiked 85 mountains in The White Mountains of New Hampshire in the past year and a half, I’ve worn Salomons, Altras, Keens, Merrells. These are the best hiking shoe I’ve ever worn. These are usually reviewed as a good light hiking shoe but na, these are legit, heavy duty, Ive done 20+ mile hikes over the most relentless rugged tough trails. These are absolutely unbelievable.
Continental is an excellent sole. It is dense and does not wear out as quickly as the Salomon protector, which is located very sparsely far from each other.
I've went through 2 pairs of these and plan to buy another. I don't go for long hikes. I'm in my mid 40's and some extra stability, even toughness, is better for me than something that is super lightweight like a true trail running shoe. Thanks for the thoughtful review.
Awesome, I've ordered them. The European pronunciation of Adidas is the correct one because Adidas is a subtraction of the name of the German founder, Adolf Dassler, Adi for short. Adi+Das(sler)=Adidas.
They r badass shoes . The Adidas skychasers are pretty similar and for 80 on sale no chance you find anything better w such support in a light hiker at that price.
Can we wear it on a daily basis? I will be going to Germany for studies and will be wearing it so that it works for out for all purposes, and I don't want to spend much on another pair of shoes.
To help with laces coming undone, add an extra half wrap around the bunny ear before you pull thru and tighten. This works with all laces including paracord and will not come undone, and also does not require double knotting
These shoes are great! I have the Gore-tex version and ive been wearing them daily for 1 year now.. They are STIFF at first, but break in after a few weeks..After a year, the only complaint is pinky toe wear through, small holes developing on the outside!
I've been loving some of the Terrex shoes in recent years, they used to be awful but there's some excellent ones now, I love the speed pro's, but grip isn't their thing though, I use them in the summer and pack them away for winter, if you want to try a shoe which will give Vibram a run for its money, try some VJ Sports with their butyl rubber compound, they're sticky as hell with amazing grip, as worn by Jonathan Albon who won the ultra trail running and obstacle racing world champs wearing them.
Hi there! Just found your video and it is amazing! Love all the specs and your attitude! I just have one question, in my local outlet there's a size 11 and a size 12 of this shoe, but I am a true 11.5. What would you recommend, going up half a size or down half a size?
Continental grip can be really good. It's just this model has much harder soles than the freehikers and they don't have the same grip level. They'll probably last much longer but not grippy enough. The freehiker 2 has a softer super grippy sole but it wears out much faster.
@@Dusty_Hikers I found this shoe was good for hiking on and up abrasive igneous rocks. It resists wear better than a softer soled shoe and offers the right protection. I suspect Adidas designed the shoe for exactly this purpose but somehow the trekking and climbing experts in the Terrex sub-brand don't seem able to state the specific uses of a shoe on the website or explain why one shoe is more appropriate than another. A lot of Adidas boots are purchased by people who just want to wear them for light leisure activities but the Terrex subbrand has some boots and shoes that wouid be uncomfortable and pointless for anything other than their specific & narrow purpose. Stuff like the Agravic Ultra trail runners, the Swift R3s you tested and the Skychaser Tech. I'd recommend you try the Free Hiker 2 GTX which had a softer continental sole and is very cushioned, and the Skychaser Tech Mid which has a pebax plate for fast mountain hiking. I have trekking friends raving about both boots.
I think comparing these shoes to hikers and light hikers is not really fair. They are advertised as a shoe that can hike, scramble, and climb and go off trail. If they where compared to shoes of only this category I believe the conclusions would be different.
It has a tall stack so light snow should not come in the top of these shoes. There is a Goretex version that would work fine in light snow. They also have deep lugs.
Do they keep the dust out? I’m tired of heavy work boots, but can’t find high top sneakers I love enough that keep the sawdust out (I work at a flooring mill). I figured hiking boot shoes would be the best, need the aggressive outsole because when it rains it gets messy. Not the most important but I hate wet feet too. I’m a sneaker guy that has never wore hiking shoes, And they’re all pricey enough to land me on RUclips.
Hey Bird, These have a mesh fabric upper and I imagine saw dust would find it’s way in there. Also, the soles have very deep lugs like cleats on a soccer shoe. I don’t think they would be very effective on concrete. I would go for something with all leather uppers. Danner has great work shoes. Check them out.
HI, I'm a bit late. I have Adidas Terex (gtx) swift 2. They are dustproof and waterproof. I wear them in summer for days in the field. All dry earth and they did not have even one partical of dust in them. I had white socks. Payed about 90e - 100e and had them for 3 years now.
I have been hiking in them lately with wool socks and they are fine but it was not freezing or particularly wet. They are mesh so they will take on water if you don’t have the goretex version.
You always want to say Adidas in the European way and don't know why? Well, maybe it's because that's just what the pronunciation actually is supposed to be! It's a German brand and names are always pronounced in their original way. We don't pronounce English names different either outside English speaking countries, like your name would sound completely different from what it actually is, Alan. Proper names are never "translated" or changed in their pronunciation.
Thank you so much for posting the review 👍This is always super helpful for us
Awesome!
hi adidas terrex. which of the shoes is thorn proof or for dry climate hiking?
@@briancockerham4731 just go with a non gtx variant or a running terrex shoe

I certainly agree that they are not really a light hiker. They are very solid, built like a tank.
@@Dusty_Hikers they are tanks! gotta break them in.

I love my Adidas Terrex Swift R3 GTX. These shoes are incredible.

I would get the 12. They are very true to size. I am afraid an 11 would be too short.
if you're hiking, you want to get half a size up too

True. After a year the Swift R3 show little sign of wear on the soles.

nice review =) I bought the goretex - why don't u like them?
I really like them more now. After the break-in their very good.
I'm undecided between r3 and r2, which one would you recommend in terms of durability and elegance r2 swift gtx looks more stylish
I did not try the R2. The R3s have held up very well.
@@Dusty_Hikers thanks
Best shoe review.
I need to get these reviews down to 8 minutes max. I take too long.
I just now received my TERREX SOULSTRIDE. I get it in a huge offer😁. do you think it is good for daily use?
No
@Hüseyin Actually, I use it all this time, and I think it is ok for long hours wear

I keep spelling it wrong as well lol. Just ordered a pair on sale at REI for 104$, at that price point I couldn't pass them up.
Let us know how they work out for you.
How are these in terms of keeping feet warm in cold weather?
I have been hiking in them lately with wool socks and they are fine but it was not freezing or particularly wet. They are mesh so they will take on water if you don’t have the goretex version.

Clearly Adidas is stepping it up to make an affordable hiker to compete with Salomon and Merrell
Side note: it is technically pronounced ah-Dee-dahs
Can you trail run in these?
I would NOT trail run in these. They have very deep, rigid lugs and you would risk slipping.
@@Dusty_Hikers Apart from rigid lugs, do they have enough cushioning?
@@donaldtrump9307 Yes. They are adequate for cushioning.
I have bought these and they heel slip too much, so much space for heel to move, got another pair terrex ax3 same size and they are perfect.. sad
Thanks for sharing. I think the shoes are so rigid and stiff they cause heal slip.
this is more of a comparison video, than a review.
I bought terrex ax4, and girp is extreme good! What you say is bullshit
