@@WyvrnOnYT Omg :D The game is a MASTERPIECE!!! And I love it when people enjoy the music because Yasunori Mitsuda literally worked himself to the point of having to be *HOSPITALIZED* while doing the OST!!! My favorite composer along with Koji Kondo :)
“As long as people like the game, who cares?” Is the right mood really. You can make it fit regardless, but if it comes at the cost of less enjoyment, not worth it
I honestly think that continuity is important ONLY to the games that are direct sequels to other games (Oot-MM, WW-PH-ST, Botw-ToK, etc.) I think the issue was almost forcing a timeline to barely tie ALL the games together. And I completely get making Skyward Sword the first game timeline wise to explain why Link and Zelda have been alive for thousands of years, but realistically after that, every other game can live in its OWN vacuum. And lets remember, this series started as : elf boy goes on a journey to save a princess.
Never saw any part of these games where the time line mattered at all. But every zelda game ive played has been extremely fun and the story descent. The only time id say time line matters is if one is a legit sequel that relys on the previous game for story line elements/puzzles.
Personally, I made my own timeline where the games release dates is the timeline, when ever something happens that makes a character not available they get replaced, reincarnated or if it’s set in where they got sent to it’s the same character, and when something doesn’t add up it’s just the universe taking a brake, but I also don’t care about timelines and yes it’s cool when something connects, but that just means this was before that and this is after that, and I’m not going to say that all you should be doing is having fun, because then I’d be a hypocrite but isn’t that just want living is all about, have a good night ❤
I honestly feel like it's the opposite. Some fans will try to speculate where the new games could take place just for fun, but then there's the other fans who get all hissy about the timeline theories. I personally like seeing the discourse about it, seeing people bring the pieces together, it makes the franchise a bit more interesting. In the end, yeah, it doesn't really matter TOO much, but the devs should least make it make some sense if they do care or make the story make sense if it's standalone or direct sequel (TOTK is so vague)
Zelda lore is and has always been messy. That's why its fun. Of course some people are going to go too ham with it, but I think its a stretch to say it doesn't matter because the devs don't obsess over it. Its been a part of the community discussions for over 30 years. It's important because we've given it meaning through all the fun (and silly arguing) over the years. As someone else said, the most vitriol I've ever seen came from people who hated any timeline discussions. I'll continue to enjoy acting as a Hyrulean anthropologist hahaha.
Yeah...i can agree, but it's still weird that Nintendo are so obsessed with the "IMAGINATIONNN"....it works, but i think they should put more and more references to certant timelines in the games to make it placable on the timeline for the people still obsessed with the timeline, and not just to alienate the fans who DO CARE ABOUT THE TIMELINE
My god, the new game’s announcement wasn’t even 24hrs old when people were already frothing at the mouth over the timeline placement. I’m so over the whole timeline thing, it’s clear Nintendo is too.
Nah there's definitely a TON of toxicity in this community over mild lore disagreements. A few friends of mine who are in big Zelda discord servers see it all the time. The thing is there's toxicity in every online gaming community.
@@DinoMeat-qw4lg Because it helps give depth to the series and helps the fans engage with it . I get that some fans don’t care about the timeline but to fans that do it enriches the story. And if it were to be abandoned then it would ruin the immersion for those fans.
Not everything needs to have lore-driven connections to things. I mean, Nintendo themselves outright said that the timeline does not matter as much as making enjoyable games. While i do like the timeline theories, I don't think they're imperative to just enjoying a game about a silent Pot Thief saving a princess from a really angry pig.
I believe when you remove the continuity between games then Zelda becomes no more interesting than Mario. I think it’s a shame that the franchise isn’t going in the direction I’d want it to, but there are plenty other works of fiction with amazing worlds and thought provoking stories, Zelda doesn’t have to be one of them.
@@mhm2278 Mario is an amazing franchise, and so is Zelda. You don’t need a strong narrative to be entertaining. Mario is like fast food to me, and now so is Zelda, really really good high quality fast food, but still missing something that you can only find in a nice restaurant or diner.
@@see.eye.2361 Oh yeah I agree. Especially Link's character was really bad in Tears of the Kingdom, but that was an issue that could've been solved without the heavy focus on deep lore. It was just a mistake made with his character.
i’m of the opinion that there is no timeline. all the games are telling the same tale, but as the legend is passed down through the generations, each culture tweaks it slightly, similar to greek mythology.
@@WyvrnOnYT i agree. i think @srg365 put it best when he said that the direct sequels like majoras mask and TotK are exceptions to that rule. they would be continuations of those stories, but the overall story of the two stories is the same one being passed down generation to generation
I disagree, the timeline gives immense depth and reason behind the story. Disclaimer, I don't consider the Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass, or Spirit Tracks as part of that timeline. Some games shouldn't matter timewise. However, games like OOT, TP, and BOTW should be melded in to the timeline.
I partially agree with that because for example, the opening to the legend of zelda the wind waker wouldn't be nearly as impactful if you didn't have the timeline in mind. What I disagree with is it being one of the most important things. I think that it's not worth having a serious heated debate over. Or better yet, if there are plot holes in the time line, that's okay with me.
@WyvrnOnYT It just comes down to preference. Like how in TOTK some people love the open world most, some love the old game references most, for some it's the combat. As I mentioned before, I agree with you that it doesn't matter for some games. For this new game, I don't think it matters. I'm just gonna enjoy the game. For Link's Awakening and Oracle of Ages/Seasons, it doesn't matter to me. But for BOTW & TOTK I'd say it matters.

From a writer's perspective. As soon as you bring up time travel nothing the story does matters.
