Matt enjoy your videos. Do you have any suggestions for someone in a wheelchair? I have some of my father’s old tools, Radial arm saw, small 10 inch table saw and a 1950s joiner. I need a workbench but being in a wheelchair finding one I can get up to that’s not too high or low isn’t easy.
Thanks
Randy
Finally bought myself a table saw last month after your in depth review of the Skil saw. Has completely reinvigorated my love of this hobby, and caused me to reorganize my garage into a workshop so I don't have to keep dragging everything out into the driveway.
This has quickly become my fave channel this year. Really good content, but I also really think you and Mrs 731 are great people which I appreciate even more.
Thank you EG! 👊
I really appreciate your videos! You've given me some great gift ideas!!!
You do a good job with your videos. Nice work!! Always informative
Great stuff ! Thanks amigo. It’s interesting how much marketing plays a part into quality
Your previous video on parallel clamps sold me on the Bremen clamps from Harbor Freight. (I asked "Santa" for a pair.) I'm glad you included them in this video.
I bought a Drum sander a while back, great addition to my shop, esp for cutting boards, and sanding wood before assembly. I bought the 3-m sander. Love it, and the DFM square is invaluable for setups. Thanks my friend. Blessings...
Great video. Thank you for the Canadian links in the description. Enjoying your channel. Keep up the good work.
Great summary of all the awesome. Thanks, Matt!
Great list, Matt. I'd forgotten about a couple of these tools but I bought a couple after your earlier videos. Months ago when you talked about the right angle drill attachment, big orange ran the Dewalt on sale so I scored one and it really helps.
I've really enjoyed your channel all year long! Thank you for the information and entertainment. Wishing your family much happiness!
Thank you Blayne 👊
Being predominantly a hand tool worker, I'm not sure I bought any "tools" this year, but the most surprising thing I bought this year was the Pica pencil that you have featured. I thought, why would I spend that much for a pencil, but put it on a wish list. Eventually I needed to spend a few more dollars for free shipping so I got one. I NOW reach for that thing constantly.
If I may suggest, another thing you may like is the **BXT 5.6MM Lead Holder** . It's a big, FAT mechanical pencil, but instead of a fine lead it uses a big-ass 5.6mm lead (close to half the width of your pinky nail, for an idea) which is great when you want your lines to be visible and 1/16th inch accuracy is not called for. You will find yourself reaching for this sometimes, too.
I'd link to it, but youtube censors anything with external links. But the highlighted phrase above should get you to it -- alternately it is "product" B07CMQ2Z7C on Amazon.

O.l......o......oo..
i just bought the skil table saw because of this channels review and one other. had it a couple weeks and I love it. i have a very well maintained radial arm saw and i barely even use it now because of this table saw and a simple crosscut sled i built
Thanks Matt. Great review of some cool tools. I might consider that sander. Expensive but quiet.
Thanks for answering why the detail sander is different than using an oscillating tool with a sanding pad. I had been wondering about that.
I've been working on small trays with epoxy in the bottom to give as Christmas gifts and have been sanding them by hand. After watching this I went to the HD and found the M12 Detail Sander on sale for $150. What a beast this little guy is! It's gonna save me so much time. Easily my best purchase of 2022. Thanks for the recommendation!
With the recent price drop of the Dewalt 735, I couldn't pass it up, just ordered and should be here in a few days so super excited about that. Just getting my workshop set up, your videos have been super helpful and I'm going to purchase some of your plans including the one for the 735 cart. Thanks for all the helpful videos!
When you talked about track saws, one less expensive tool came to mind that I love. The Kreg Rip-Cut. Really works for making long straight cuts when breaking down plywood. I looked all over the internet and couldn't find a circular saw jig that would attach to the saw or wasn't nine feet long. As long as there's a factory edge to reference, this Kreg jig is great.
The Rip Cut is great
Thank you for mentioning the zero clearance insert for the skil table saw hadn't seen one yet
That Rikon is great for tuners. we have used angle drills for years.
I watched Marc Spagnuolo (Wood Whisperer) the other day and he thought that RUclips reviewers should say if they bought a tool, were “gifted” a tool by the manufacturer and if they have used the reviewed tools for any length of time. What do you think?
I picked up the Skil table saw a few weeks ago. Woodcraft had them on sale for $299. It was backordered, but I had it in like 10 days. It's my first table saw so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I'm very happy with it so far. The miter gauge leaves a lot to be desired, but I didn't really expect much at this price point. The saw itself is solid and that's all I really care about. I'll be building a bunch of jigs anyway.
Great video, you are becoming one of my favorite creators.
I appreciate that
My best tool was my Rikon 14 inch bandsaw. It consistantly out performs my old Jet cast iron saw with riser block. I also bought that 3M sander won't replace my Bosch 6 inch for hogging away material, but it is way better for fine sanding.
I don't have a particular take on tools but just wanted to say thank you for the content and inspiration!
I appreciate that!
I Finally Got my Table Saw! Love having something i can make more durable and better cuts
My fav tool is my me ShopSabre S23 CNC but my second is the Milwaukee 4 in 1 M12 drill kit. Changed the assembly game for me.
You asked what our favorite tools of 2022 mine was the Milwaukee M 12 drill and 1/4” impact driver (around $100) not nearly as powerful as the M 18 but small and light weight, but still enough power for nearly all my shop needs.
God bless you and your family.. always informative and positive! Merry Christmas from my house to yours !!
These are great suggestions. Those Japanese flush cut saws are life changing (that’s an over statement, but you get my point). I will probably buy more of those (different types, but same brand).
I order the Rikon sander, Thanks for showing it.
Thanks for answering the question about the difference in the oscillating tool and the sander. Now I have another red tool to buy.
My favorite tool is this channel but in regards to what's in my shop/garage is this High Torque Impact Wrench Kit from RIDGID that I paid about $170 after the hack deal. It has such power you almost don't feel it working when busting lug nuts off & with the new 4Ah MaxOutput battery it was a great deal. An incredible tool.
Though I do have to say I have the same DeWalt thickness planer and it is a beast. It is probably my favorite woodworking tool.
I bought that table saw recently based off the review. I haven't been able to get it out of the box yet though since it has been insanely hot in Texas and Im going to be working in the back yard. soon though.
Izzy swan has a video of these mods he does to the cord on his power tools, it basically makes the cord detachable. It is very cool. Planning to do it to it to a couple of my shop tools
The Best the Master Blessings for you and your family 🇩🇴
I would love to see you take a look at the Ryobi thickness planer and some of the other new tools from Ryobi
Great T-Shirt!
I bought the Wen track saw a few years back as I wanted to try one to see how much I’d use it. It’s been a great saw for what I need, but I think it’s the cheapest track saw you can buy. I won’t be replacing it any time soon.
The new tools I purchased this year was the Ridgid oscillating spindle/belt sander, which is a great sander, and you get two tools in one. Besides, it seems like every well known woodworkers on RUclips have one, so of course I needed one. I also purchased a Grizzly 14” band saw that I love, but I think I probably bought it last year.
If your getting into the m12 line up I would recommend checking out the m12 installation driver
I recently upgraded my planer to a DeWalt 735 from a very old Delta planer. OH MY WORD!!! Complete night and day difference!!!
Fav tool this year: 8” Wahuda Jointer (Love ya Bro Riv❤)
Those Bremen clamps are never in stock in the Harbor Freight store near me. I hope to some day test them out. Thanks for the video.
I have a milescraft 90 degree that I've used for a few years ago but it was always a little janky to use. I picked up the dewalt one at the blue store last week in a combo pack with a short and long impact set and a drill bit set. Looking forward to testing the dewalt vs the milescraft.
The Kreg right angle is the best I’ve found, it’s impact rates, and more importantly than every other brand is LOCKING, which allows you to use it to drill as well or just deal with tougher fasteners.
The Skil table saw is easily my favorite purchase this year… I saw VCG Construction’s review and I ended up buying it in February or March…. Was pumped when you reviewed it and more or less confirmed my purchase and THANK YOU for the link to the throat plate upgrade… the flex has been driving my crazy lol
Where did you get the throat plate? I love my saw but the plate drives me crazy too.
@@peteg4526 there’s a link he put in the description… I just realized the way I worded it made it sound like I have it.. I meant to thank him for linking the upgrade and I’m gonna order it.. my bad PeteG45
Hey Matt, love your videos very informative. Thought I’d share this with you and your viewers. Right now Lowe’s has a sale going on until January 3. On Jorgensen‘s 24 inch parallel jaw cabinet style clamps. $29.89 each. Also 48 inches are on sale. I live out in California not sure if this applies in other state.
Have a great holiday season🎄
I was at Home Depot today and got the Milwaukee detail sander with battery for $129.99 while supplies last on closeout
Love my grizzly track saw
My favorite new tool is the Milwaukee 12V pin nailer. I use it All The time.
You should look into the Wahuda planer as a second mid-early level planer -- slightly more expensive than the Dewalt (US$625 vs. $800) but it is a spiral cutter head, just like their jointer. Given your clear thumbs-up approval of the Wahuda jointer, I'm surprised you haven't sought out one of these.
I wish the other manufactures made a right hand track saws like the Kreg
My favorite tool I purchased this year is my festool domino.
Nice list with good info on pros and cons of different cost options. Appreciate your clarity on that. Only one complaint is your take on track saw - my tiny shop is based on a track saw, no space or desire for table saw. There are at least three ways to build a shop: circular saw with some straight edge, upgrade option to track saw or table saw.
Not all of us need a table saw for what we do, and I think he kind of points that out most of time. I have a table saw but I use my track saw more often.
Thanks!
Thank you Tim!
2:17 What makes the cordless track saw that much better if you still have a dust collector hose running to the saw?
PSA on the thin rip jig. Measure the distance from your miter slots to the blade. I have the Dewalt DWE7491RS, and this jig will only let me get a rip of about 1/2". I was hoping to get 1/8" rips, but no joy.
Have a Tracksaw and is grown up with it as my dad bought it in -95 for his company. Its an Festool and it is still working flawless. and still compatible with festool stuff. Never known how it is to be without one :P BUT my best investment in 2022 was a Festool PS300eq . and fuck i love it. it gets me thinking why the hell did i think a Ryobi and then a Makita jigsaw was good enough. nothing compares to the PS300.
Link for the saw dust blocker on festool track saw please
I just picked up the M12 detail sander for $99. My local HD is clearing them out. I lost out on getting the Rikon detail sander so this M12 will do.
Have you considered testing the Ridgid 13” Planner?
I don't have an issue with any of these tools doing the job, but two of these things I have issues with for secondary reasons.
My #1 problem with the Kreg, the reason I got rid of it, is that it's on it's own system. You can run the Makita, Festool, Wen, Mafell and others on the same type of track, and use most of the same accessories (the Makita track has a balance feature which can stop some of the accessories from working, the Mafell has two track style options). The Kreg is it's own thing. The ecosystem for the Festool style track is the best. I don't think that Kreg's MFT option works nearly as well as the drawbridge setup for Festool tables (from Festool or 3rd parties).
The big issue for me with the 3M sander is that fixed cable. I end up having to switch multiple tools with the dust collection and cable. I can't switch out the tool easy enough with that design. I just don't get why they did this on a tool that's trying to be more prosumer. To be fair, I had already gone with the Festool since I felt like for me the locking button better than the Mirka style paddle, but that's a matter of preference.
I believe the best table saw, for the price, is the Ryobi my brother gave me for free.
I've had a Festool TS55 track saw for about 13 years and love the thing. I have a lot of (expensive) tools but none gets used as much as that thing. That said, I don't see the point of the cordless track saw. If you're worried about dust (and I am) you'll be using a dust extractor. With a vacuum hose, who cares about a power cord. I bought some clips from ETSY to attach the power cord to the hose and both are plugged into the dust extractor. When the tool is on, so is the dust extractor.
The best tool that I purchased this year is the Rikon 10-305 bandsaw. This replaced an old Craftsman Bandsaw that I purchased at an auction for $30.00
Nice! I am very happy with my Rikon bandsaw as well!
3m sander, best purchase all year, per your recommendation sir.. thank you..
Awesome job brother
God Bless
Good choice
What happened to the Rikon detail sander?
10 in skill table saw you review on your channel
Lowes is selling there Router Table Combo for $129 and free shipping!
I had the 5" version of the 3M sander (connected to my Festool dust extractor). I had huge problems with static shocks when using it. I did like the smooth and quiet operation, but the static shocks were too much. I returned it and will keep using my Festool sander.
I had a friend of mine that said the same thing about his. I haven't had that issue.
@@731Woodworks Honestly, I wonder what the difference is. There's got to be something that's causing this. I *SO* wanted to like this.
Thanks could not see the “plug” for the track saw
WEN has a 15 amp 13 inch spiral head thickness planar for around 400 bucks that I think you should check out. As far as budget options go it is probably the better option over the craftsman. Some even say it rivals the dewalt as far as finished product goes because of the spiral head.
For track saws the Krueger is in my budget, but I don’t like how them and ryobi use proprietary tracks that are more expensive or hard to find. So I think I’ll buy the wen and powertec tracks, then upgrade to a Makita the next time there’s one on sale
So far the best tool I got was the Ridgid planer, nearly every project I’ve done goes through it before assembly. It’s not a helical head but I got a good deal being “factory blemished” that I still haven’t found.
I did get the flush trim saw and have already used it twice within a week of owning it.
I was sooo ready to get that thin rip guide, until I was reminded that my $100 Ryobi TS doesn’t have that darn left-of-blade miter slot. I’ve commented about that at least 3 times now. Man that kicks my butt. 😅Trying to get an old 8” craftsman going, just for that miter slot. Otherwise I’d seek out that Skil which I still might. $335.15 would arrive mid January or sooner when purchasing with a gift card… Mann that is tempting.
Went to get a table saw.
Ryobi box shows two slots
Get home and assemble....only one slot
Returned and asked what the heck home depot
They said yeah its a known issue....there were reviews going back over a year for it and they still hadn't fixed the packaging or the website
@@chriswitek9455 interesting and makes more sense to me now. I had found it new in box on OfferUp and the only picture was a screenshot of the Home Depot pictures and box. So that could be exactly why I too didn’t realize it till it was too late. Thank you for that. At $100 i just shrug 🤷🏼♂️
My favorite tool I picked up was Fonson Tools tracksaw rail square @ $50 it is a lot more reasonable price wise than some of the better known squares out there. The only thing is right now on Banggood it is sale for $30 I should have waited. Also learning about Banggood website for buying woodworking tools.

When you talked about the parallel clamps you mentioned people who "don't mind Harbor Freight tools." Ten years ago that might've been a good observation when HFT carried lots of cheap, use-once-and-its-done tools. The past few years though HFT has upped their game by carrying better brands and forcing some of their lesser brands to improve. For instance, Chicago Electric today is much better across the board than Chicago Electric ten years ago. And the Bauer and Hercules brands of power tools have earned the respect of professionals where Dewalt has kind of tailed off a bit in quality. Those Bremen clamps are on my shopping list.
The shirt you are wearing, I like it. Things here have not been going so well lately, but I know that my GOD will provide, in HIS time, so I am patient, waiting for him to rescue me.
There was like zero dust coming off that 3M sander. I don't think I even need to use dust protection as long as I remember to turn the shopvac on.
I just found your channel. I'm really enjoying it. Exodus 35:35
Picked up a few of these. Can you or anyone comment as to whether the Kreg ACS was a smart choice as my first big purchase as far as cutting goes. I'm new to this aside from woodshop in high school
It's a nice system Nick. I have a video on it a few months ago. I liked it.
Anyone know of that Skil table saw can be fitted to a cabinet? Can’t tell if the frame has mounting holes in it or not once the legs are removed.
With the legs folded it can be used that way
Hello Matt, my husband and I enjoy watching your channel. Where do you get your t-shirts from? This would be a great honey gift.
Most are from kerusso.com
The Wen track saw. Value for sure, however I have complaints. First, if you decide to try to joint 2 boards side by side on a 100% level service and are trying to do a panel glue up - the individual cuts will still leave a gap. Ie, on a table - rip one side, rip other side, but them together with *very* light clamping presser on ends and middle and then rip down the seam of the two butted boards. That will give you a perfect glue joint - if your table is 8', the two tracks will not allow you to cut off the last 1/2" of rip. Instead, you fall to your other chosen tool on this list - the Japanese pull saw. I bought it a year ago, sat on my rack for a year and poof - suddenly I'm using it all the time to finish the last 1/2" cut of a track saw cut. As long as you keep a finger on it to keep it flush, holy cow does it cut precise. I have a TON more to say about the wen track saw - especially getting a perfectly straight edge on the 2 track pieces which involved a machinist square, an 8' level and a good bit of sanding, I noticed about .003 of gap in middle where two tracks come together. I had to really play with it, that and the stupid front screw with the little pad that goes against the rail when you push it to keep it from slopping. It gets caught on the seam of the joint of the two pieces - makes me angry as all get out. I think if you have a couple hours, the 100$ price tag on the saw and another 100$ on the 2x 55" tracks is good. However, If I was going to do it over, I think I'd go Kreg for 300$ and spend the 100$ on the powertrac or whatever track (not the wen though, stay away from it unless you got some time) or even the Festool. Ripping 8' table top boards the track saw is a daily driver and I do recommend stepping up if you are generating income, just do it. I use that damn track saw so much because I have a job side dewalt table saw with a 10" blade, but the fence is too short to rip 8-10' boards accurately without building outfeed table and extended fence. Table saw upgrade is next on list.
Not mentioned here but it is FREAKING AWESOME - Pegasus workbench. A little while back you showed a deal. Man, that was the EASIEST workbench I ever used. I use the Worx clamps all the time, and I literally took it out of the box and started using it within a minute. Best thing I bough 2022, besides my 735 Dewalt (just regular blades, not a spiral....because money aint growing on trees never!).
The zero clearance plate for the Skil table saw shows as sold out with no idea if they are ever going to have them again. Does anyone have any information about where to buy one? I do find the OEM insert to be too flexible. I tried adding different types of reinforcements to the underside of the plate for rigidity. It helps but is not the right solution.
Return the saw if possible, throw it away if you can’t. Skil table saws are junk and I wouldn’t waste a penny trying to upgrade it.
Really want to know where you get those t-shirts from
most come from kerusso.com

Some really great ideas.....but I wonder why the Craftsman planer went from $299 on November 1 to $399 a month later. Seems like quite a jump. Hopefully it will come down again 😊
it goes up and down. Keep an eye on it. It's' been $299 for several days each month for the last 3 months.
@@731Woodworks Thank you....and I will definitely use your link if I see it come down again.
I tried setting up a Skil table saw for a friend and it wasn’t possible. It may have been a different model than the one you reviewed, but my experience is Skil and Harbor Freight table saws should be avoided.
Take the 3D printed piece off your Festool tracksaw. It’s bad for dust collection. Air needs to circulate through that window.
I've found that it significantly improves the dust collection
@@731Woodworks I thought the same thing initially, but then I was told that by a Festool technician. 🤷♂️
No one in USA seems to sell the Rikon sander.
They are all sold out.
I bought both the craftsman and the wen planers, I ended up liking the wen more than the craftsman
I bought that thin rip jig and it broke the first time I used it.
