In 2003, after being gone for 6 months to film another movie. The Rock came back to the WWE, however this time, his character was very different from the last time we saw him. The Rock for the first time since early 1999 was no longer a "Face" he was no longer a good guy. Instead he embraced his Hollywood side that all the fans hated him for, and became Hollywood Rock. Which ended up being one of the greatest gimmicks of a heel we had ever seen.

The main reason it was so short lived? He was too entertaining for the fans to stay mad at him for long. By the time the Goldberg feud started post Wrestlemania 19, he was already getting cheered again.

And him being cheered was an issue to his role. I guess The Rock didn't "Know His Role" too well.

This is my favorite iteration of The Rock. Hollywood Rock was on another level. The promos he cut on the crowd, his interactions with The Hurricane, and The Rock Concert, were some of the best work of his career. All this he did within a 3-month span.

Hollywood Rock truly was something else. In a time when he was transitioning from a wrestler to Hollywood, it was perfect timing to act like a sellout and what better way to do that with a good old fashion heel turn. It was perfect. His promos were just as great and hilarious, but as heel, he became more savage and it was amazing stuff. Face or heel, the Rock truly is the people’s champion.🤨

My favorite Hollywood Rock promo is of course the Rock Concert he did the Raw before Mania 19. The way he roasted Sacramento and the Sacramento Kings was funny as hell, and it got better when the Hurricane showed up in Austin’s truck and Rock had the police arrest him and said that Hurricane is guilty of shoving chicken mcnuggets up his ass. That is my favorite Rock segment of all time

The Rock during this phase pulled off an anomaly that very few were able to do. He managed to make JR actually laugh on live commentary.
In the Rock Concert, the Hurricane came out to interrupt him. Rock had the cops come and arrest and had one of the best burns ever.
As the cops were escorting Hurricane out of the ring, he said and I quote "He's guilty of shoving chicken mcnuggets straight up his ass!" And that line was so funny that even JR, for a BRIEF second, actually laughed before going back to commentating.

Crazy how 2003 Rock was only an 87 overall in HCTP
I think they dropped his rating because he was kinda of a mid carder during that period but he had main card fueds
It's because he was leaving the company soon and the big stars at that time were Brock Lesnar and Goldberg.
As amazing as HCTP is, a lot of the ratings were loony. HBK was only an 80 in that game.
Tbh the ratings were fine, the rock wasn't a lot weaker compared to previous years. He was always scared, cheating or running away from conflict lol. But he was so funny
